July issue tries to explore the potential in incense making craft of India as incense sticks are generally made of Bamboo, the market contributes a major share in the economy of the country. 70% of the total sale of the product comes from South India. More and more cottage-based units can come up in small towns and village areas of the state to meet the local demand.
After increase in the important duty on incense stick, govt intends to give a thrust to the craft which has immense potential in employment generation, besides it doesn't require much capital or technical expertise.
Hence with proper training, the craft can be a great source of revenue as Indian incense sticks are exported to more than 150 countries, like the US, UK, Malaysia, and Nigeria being the top markets.
