Hello Metropolitan Members and readers!

May Day, May Day...here we go with the golf season! It was a great to get out last week and conduct a USGA qualifier at Old Hickory Golf Club to kick off the 2021 schedule. The forecast was anything but desirable for last Wednesday, but somehow we managed to get the 36-hole qualifier in after one delay.

I have been a broken record on this subject, but I have to say (again!) that we are so fortunate to have the support of our Member Clubs to conduct MAGA Championships and USGA Qualifying Rounds. The support and enthusiasm at Old Hickory GC hosting the U.S. Women’s Open Qualifying last week was unbelievable. Pete Christo, Old Hickory GM, thanked me numerous times for asking them to host and that it was an honor to host! When all the thanks goes to Pete, Brett Moomey, Dave Pini, the ownership group and the membership. Several members volunteered to assist with scoring and many more were out walking and watching the talented field compete for those 2 qualifying spots throughout the day all the way to the end!

The 12th season of the Metropolitan Amateur Series kicks off Monday, May 3 at WingHaven CC. We started the Amateur Series to give EVERYONE an opportunity to compete...any age, any handicap. To start things off we have 105 players competing in Event #1, blowing away by far the number of players we have ever seen in the last 11 seasons. And, most importantly, we have a new Women’s Net Division, with 13 ladies competing at WingHaven.

It has been a very busy spring with the changes to the GHIN Handicap Service and getting members setup to use the GHIN Mobile App for score posting with their Digital Profiles. We also welcome 5 new member clubs this spring to MAGA - Litchfield Country Club, Highland Country Club, Carlinville Country Club, Gimme Golf Club and Westlake Country Club have all come in the last couple months.

With May we start our four monthly issues of the Metropolitan highlighting our busy tournament season.
