61 When the ball goes in the air on May 2 at Forest Park, it will be the 61st playing of the Publinx Open. The traditional bellringer for golf in St Louis was started by Milton Frank in 1960 and became a fixture under the watchful eye of Bart Collida. The tournament annually accommodates a field of more than 240 players, a lineup dotted with professionals and amateurs, some more accomplished than others. The tournament has returned to its traditional May home after a one-year hiatus. Because of the pandemic, the 2020 edition was played in October, where it was more of a season-closer. 500 The number of dimples in a golf ball, which can have between 300-500, at a depth of 0.010 inch. What’s more, it will represent eight years since the senior set was here, or since the 2013 Senior PGA Championship at Bellerive. Not sure if Khoki Idoki - the 2013 Senior PGA winner - will make a return appearance. 1.4 As in $1.4 million, which is the price tag on the renovation being undertaken at The Legends Country Club in Eureka, Mo. The project ie being led by St. Louis-based architect Art Schaupeter and will include replacing and renovating all greens and bunkers on the 18-hole course. The Legends, which opened in 1989, also has a 9-hole course. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
