CULTURAL LEARNING

CHAMPIONING ARTS AND CULTURE WITHIN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY AND AS SCHOOLS TOGETHER Arts and Cultural activities are a staple feature of an 'all round' education at Bolton School. The Boys' Division is an Artsmark Platinum school, a partner in Bolton's Cultural Educational Partnership and a steering partner of the North West's collaborative for the development of creative skills. Our staff participate in local, regional and national cultural education programmes. We believe that every child should have access to the benefits that arts and culture bring. This brochure provides a flavour of our cultural education calendar, indicating pupil projects, school community events, public-facing activities and Schools Together work. Where the programme refers to a 'SPACE' activity, this denotes an activity that is part of fortnightly enrichment afternoons. SPACE afternoons focus upon social, physical, practical, active, aesthetically-engaged, cultural and enterprising activities. Dates are loosely given by month and are subject to change as we settle back into the rhythms of school life after the period of remote learning. 'Children who feel ownership of the arts also feel more confident in their ability to create, challenge and explore; they learn to participate not just in arts activities but within society. Access to the arts is access to our national life. There is a wealth of detailed evidence to show that studying the arts fosters creativity, innovation, empathy, and resilience, and that the arts enrich young lives, making them happier and healthier. The arts also give children the skills needed in a labour market that places an increasingly high premium on creativity.' — Cultural Learning Alliance
