At Oakfield House, we support adults diagnosed with autism in achieving independence and community integration. Through the creation and delivery of individual care plans, we cater to the needs of individuals within a low-arousal environment. Oakfield House provides residence for up to nineteen adults with a diagnosis of Autism.
Facilities Within the home, there are sixteen single bedrooms with a further three in our self-contained bungalow. This bungalow also has its own kitchen, thus developing and encouraging the independence of the service users. The
property offers a range of communal areas including two lounges, a kitchen, a dining room and a games room.
Resource Centre Oakfield House also has a Resource Centre, which includes a domestic skills training kitchen, a computer room, an arts and crafts room, a sensory room and an aromatherapy suite. This allows a range of activities to be offered to services users which are aimed at meeting the needs of the individual and developing life skills. Additionally, there is one acre of garden surrounding the property. A part of this garden is used to develop the gardening skills of service users.
Activities
Staff team
As well as service users engaging in in-house activities, they also take part in community based activities in order to develop community and social skills, such as shopping, swimming, bowling and meals out. Service users are also provided with the opportunity to take on college courses at Bourneville College and Adult Education Centres. Previous service users have attended a variety of courses including cookery, sport and photography.
At Oakfield House, we have a team of experienced and qualified staff and the property is staffed on a 24/7 basis.
Environment Although we have a low-arousal environment at Oakfield House, we place great emphasis on person-centred care plans and the empowerment of each individual to make choices. The progress of service users is reviewed by our team of experienced staff within the first four weeks of an individual’s placement, followed by a three month review and then on a yearly basis. Care plans are reviewed formally at a minimum of every six months, ensuring that service users are getting the most out of Oakfield House.
Staff at Oakfield House are devoted, enthusiastic individuals who have undergone a supervised induction period, regular supervision from senior members of staff and a thorough introduction to the service’s policies and procedures concerning care plans, health and safety, equality and challenging behaviour. Staff work with service users to encourage that they are having as much control over their lives as possible and that they are getting the most out of their experience at Oakfield House.
