THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY PICKING UP THE PIECES
O
n this month’s cover is the allnew Honda City hatchback which replaces the Jazz that had a good run for so many years. It had a huge following. Now, it will be interesting to find out if the new hatch will be warmly recieved by Jazz fanatics and hatch lovers.
Ford Group Philippines will be welcoming a new managing director in the person of Michael Breen, replacing PK Umashankar. Mike brings with him 28 years of Ford experience starting out in North America as a customer service representative.
In motorsports, the IATF has given the green light to various race organizers to begin their 2021 racing season. The Toyota Vios Cup, our local superbike series, and the Philippine Rallycross Series are scheduled to jumpstart their races in June and July.
Finally, 14 months since the pandemic, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. reported a growth of 54% in the passenger car segment and 29.6% in the commercial vehicle segment. This is a clear indication that the industry is slowly moving up from the effects brought about by the start of the pandemic in March of last year.
We are looking at better days ahead. With the Skyway 3 nearing it’s completion, delivery of goods and services will now be more time-efficient, which is a big help to economic recovery.
