F
rom Plantation, Florida, James is an extremely passionate man when it comes to his Ultimate Driving Machines, owning three BMW’s so far, with each one better than the last. His first, a 330 convertible, introduced him to the power, style and superb handling that sets BMW apart from the crowd. And it got even better the day his 2002 BMW M3 convertible was delivered. Beginning its life as a daily driver for the first two years, James slowly began the transition from M3 into a full-blown show car that has been virtually unbeatable on the southeast show circuit.

T
he COE system in Singapore does not favour car enthusiasts, parting ways with their cherished rides after numerous COE renewals, or having to contend with the extreme costs of car ownership. These stand as the primary reasons why the older cars in Singapore are rarely kept, or seen amongst the glitzy and modern design of consumer cars these days. Getting Older Doesn’t Mean Getting Old Enter Toyota’s famous hatchback; the Sprinter Trueno AE86. Back in its limelight era of the ‘80s, it was a machine to die for. 125bhp transmitted onto its rear wheels in a light weight body and those (back then) revolutionary popup headlights in two-toned colours, it quickly got the attention of many, earning its entry into many one-make races, such as the popular Group A and Group N series.

Toyota FT-86 In Thailand, car importer Autostella, along with its sub brand Club S9, enjoy a sterling reputation as being one of the go-to places for car lovers. The company’s core beliefs that “a car is an extension of how you live” is best reflected in this S986 Toyota FT-86, S9 being the company’s name and 86 for the Toyota 86.

Monster Garage RX-7 FD3S Efini
I
remembered when I was in school and much too young to drive. Experiences of cars were all slightly remote as those boring trips in my family car were spent gazing at the opposite carriageway in the hope that I might catch a glimpse of something interesting flash by the opposite direction. At that age, I was into Trump Cards with its eyeful of amazing car pictures on one side and its easily digestible specification box on the other recording the car’s 0-100km/h sprint times, horsepower outputs and most importantly, top speed. Back then, my enthusiasm was so strong that the seemingly indigestible model names and figures would 90
singe themselves instantly onto my memory so much so that I thought I knew everything. Indeed, I was always ready to win classroom arguments pertaining to just about every car ever built. It was like that all over again when I received a call from Monster Garage informing me that they had a ‘professionally restored’ 2004 Mazda RX-7 FD3S Efini ready for us to shoot. Almost instantaneously, I felt like I was back at school again…. as thoughts of my all-time favourite Trump Card representing what I used to call “the purest Japanese performance car ever built”, the 3rd generation RX-7 bookmarked between the Periodic Table and my math’s book. 91

Driving these speakers is a Genesis Dual Mono two channel amplifier, with another one used to drive the Morel Ultimo SC102 subwoofer in the boot. Made in England, these amplifiers contain a range of features designed to enhance sound quality, such as separate power supplies and independent channel controls for sound separation, along with a Burr Brown preamp, commonly found in high end audio equipment. While a fine sound was the main goal of this installation, some flashy touches were also thrown into the mix, such as the aforementioned integrated Audison DSP controller and the speaker enclosures, but also the acrylic enclosures for the amplifiers in the boot, and the LED lighting surrounding them. Now that is one install that certainly satisfies on both fronts! AC
