Better is what you get in the 2013 Highlander
With its dynamic versatility, five-star comfort and refined, sophisticated body, Highlander has everything you need in an SUV. Sit behind the wheel and you’ll not only notice its superior ride, but also its surprisingly precise handling. And if you’re on the road for a longer journey, you and all your passengers will have plenty of space to relax, even with loads of gear in the back. Available in 4-cylinder, V6 and hybrid models, Highlander is one rugged SUV that can rise to any occasion.
Toyota’s commitment to safety is demonstrated through our innovative Star Safety System™, and our dedication to reliability is proven by the fact that over 80% of Toyotas sold in Canada in the last 20 years are still on the road today*. Those are just a few reasons why you’ll feel more confident than ever sitting behind the wheel. The 2013 Highlander, like every single one of our vehicles, was built to make things better. It’s just how we approach everything we do, every day.

Available POWER LIFTGATE Highlander offers two ways to get all the space you need. You can open just the lift-up glass hatch to load small items, or open the whole liftgate for large cargo.
SEATING FOR SEVEN Highlander can seat up to 7-passengers comfortably. The second-row seats recline, slide and feature armrests on the outboard seats. Plus, the passenger side has a one-touch lever that allows you to fold and slide the seat forward to make access to the third row that much easier.
Highlander gives you the flexibility to do more –
CENTER STOWTM The ingenious Center StowTM allows you to comfortably seat up to 7 passengers. The second-row bucket seats also transform into a bench seat with room for an additional passenger.

50/50 SPLIT THIRD-ROW SEAT A third-row seat with the ability to do a 50/50 split gives you the versatility to transport long and unwieldy cargo, while still giving you seating for up to 6 passengers.

Highlander Hybrid
Highlander Hybrid delivers all the performance
you need it. And with a combined city/highway
you’ll ever need. In fact, it generates as much
fuel efficiency rating of 6.9 L/100 km,2 you can
horsepower as the non-hybrid V6 model, which
get anywhere you’re going without worrying about
means you’ll always have power exactly when
the pumps.
Takes you farther
Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive combines driving pleasure with lower emissions. Toyota Hybrids produce nearly 70% fewer smog-forming emissions than typical new conventional vehicles9 and offer economy and energy efficiency by combining gas and electric power. Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive automatically determines the vehicle’s proper power distribution to ensure strong acceleration, a smooth response and top fuel economy.
kilowatt power meter Highlander Hybrid features a Kilowatt Power Meter that lets you know when the system is charging and keeps you informed of your electric power consumption. Hybrid Limited 4WD-i shown in Shoreline Blue Pearl.
ENERGY MONITOR When conditions permit, Hybrid Synergy Drive will seek to propel the vehicle with the most efficient power source. You can easily see what driving mode you’re in on Highlander Hybrid’s sophisticated instrumentation panel (shown on the optional Navigation4 screen).
EV MODE Designed for use at very low speeds for short distances, EV Mode cuts the gasoline engine and uses only the rear electric motor. This not only saves fuel, it reduces noise and emissions.
ECON MODE Designed for more economical operation in normal driving situations, ECON Mode modifies throttle response to help reduce fuel consumption.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) Downhill Assist Control (DAC) Starting off on a steep or slippery incline can be tricky; available HAC, when activated, helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backward by holding the brakes for approximately three seconds as the driver switches from the brake pedal to the accelerator. In a similar fashion, available DAC is designed to help provide a controlled descent on steep inclines by setting a slow target speed for the vehicle.
Snow-Covered Road? Get traction when you need it most. Simply press a button and the transmission automatically adjusts to help make driving on slippery surfaces more secure. When you accelerate from a standstill, it will start in second gear to help prevent the drive wheels from spinning.
VENTILATED DISC BRAKES Brakes slow a vehicle down by using friction to convert kinetic energy into heat. If the brakes get too hot, they can become less effective, a phenomenon known as brake fade. The front brakes on Highlander employ a ventilated disc design, helping to better dissipate heat and provide confident stopping power.

1
1. CRUMPLE ZONES Front and rear energyabsorbing crumple zones and a collapsible steering column are designed to help dissipate impact force in a collision.
TRAC
TRACTION CONTROL Helps maintain traction on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces by applying brake force to the spinning wheel(s).
ABS
Anti-Lock Brake System Prevents brakes from locking up by “pulsing” brake pressure to each wheel to help you stay in control in emergency braking situations.
EBD
Electronic Brake-force Distribution Redistributes brake force to help keep the rear wheels from locking up during sudden braking situations.
BA
Brake Assist Detects sudden or “panic” braking and adds the full pressure needed to help prevent a collision.6
SST
Smart Stop Technology Smart Stop Technology is designed to reduce engine power when the brake is firmly applied helping to bring the vehicle to a stop, even if the accelerator pedal is fully depressed.7
7
Available BACKUP CAMERA Knowing what’s around your vehicle is crucial to safety. When you’re backing up, the area behind Highlander that’s visible to the camera is displayed on the Multi-Information Display or navigation system’s4 screen. 2. SEVEN STANDARD AIRBAGS1 Highlander comes standard with seven airbags, including a driver and front passenger airbag, a driver’s knee airbag, front seat-mounted side airbags for the front occupants and front and rear side curtain airbags.
3. ADVANCED SEATBELTS Driver and front passenger seatbelts feature pre-tensioners with force limiters, along with adjustable shoulder anchors.
4. active front headrests Highlander comes standard with active headrests on the front seats that adjust to better support the front occupants’ heads during certain lower-speed rear-end collisions.
5. SIDE-IMPACT DOOR BEAMS Within each of Highlander’s four doors are steel beams designed to help protect the occupants in the event of a side-impact collision.
6. LATCH SYSTEM Lower Anchor and Tethers for Children (LATCH) are included on each outboard second-row seat.
7. Direct TIRE PRESSURE MONITORing SYSTEM (TPMS) Maintaining proper tire pressure is important. TPMS evaluates the pressure of the tires and issues a warning if the pressure becomes critically low.
Vehicle Stability Control Helps prevent slips and loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying the brake force to the wheels that need it.5
Toyota was the first full-line manufacturer to make all of the elements of the Star Safety System™ standard on every new vehicle. Visit toyota.ca for more details.

(1) All Toyota vehicles shown in this brochure have Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) which, depending on the model, may include driver and front passenger airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, front seat-mounted side airbags or side curtain airbags. For important safety information about the Supplemental Restraint System in a vehicle, please see the Owner’s Manual or contact your local Toyota Dealer. (2) Fuel efficiency estimates were determined using approved Government of Canada Test Methods. Actual fuel consumption will vary based on driving habits and other factors. (3) Toyota tests certain phones for compatibility with Bluetooth technology. Some vehicles equipped with Bluetooth technology are available with bilingual capability. Note that the recommendation of Toyota is not a warranty of the performance for any phone and that some problems may occur with any type of handset based on the service coverage available in your area. Please see your Toyota Dealer for details. (4) The Toyota Navigation system is designed to assist in locating an address or point of interest. Discrepancies may be encountered between the system and your actual location. Changes in street names, road closures, traffic flow or other road system changes may affect the accuracy of the mapping software. Rely on your common sense to decide whether or not to follow a specified route. Detailed coverage is not available in every city. Optional periodic geographic updates are available at an additional cost. The Navigational systems in some vehicles are available with bilingual capability. Please see your Navigation system Owner’s Manual and your Toyota Dealer for further details. (5) Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control.
16
(6) Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions. (7) Smart Stop Technology operates only in the event of certain simultaneous brake and gas pedal applications. When engaged, the system will reduce engine power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver input can all impact stopping distance. Smart Stop Technology is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving and does not guarantee instant stopping. (8) The maximum output indicates engine plus HV battery output. (9) Compared against similarly equipped conventional gasoline powered vehicles. Based on North American sales data and Federal Tier 2 engine emission requirements.
Toyota Canada Inc. Every effort has been made to ensure the specifications and equipment shown are accurate based on information available at time of printing.
