The 2014 Fusion Hybrid achieves 4.0L/100 km city.1 Powersplit hybrid architecture helps maximize efficiency by seamlessly switching between the electric traction motor and its 2.0L Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Powered by a state-of-the-art, lithium-ion battery, the 88-kW electric traction motor allows Fusion Hybrid to operate in electric mode even at highway speeds. When you’re accelerating at speed or passing, the 2.0L engine kicks in as needed to supply extra power. Furthermore, the Regenerative Braking System captures over 90% of brake energy and uses it to help recharge the battery and maximize your fuel efficiency. Constantly measuring the battery state of charge and your driving conditions, Fusion Energi chooses the most efficient mode of operation – either continuing to run on battery power or turning on the 2.0L Atkinson-cycle gas engine as needed.
