FLAPPER CLAPPER The Roaring ’20s was the decade of the flapper. Loose-fitting dresses featured straight lines with “flaps” that bounced up to show the knees of the dancers. Almost a century later, styles may be less conservative, but we still love the provocative look of flaps when we dance!
HOW TO TAP THE TREND 1. FEATHERED FROCK
STOP AND SMELL THE ROSETTES Summer’s floral trend has continued to bloom into fall in the form of rosettes. This season, floral shapes are more structural, and they’re sprouting up all over the runways. Chloe, Giambattista Valli and Marchesa were thinking flower power (but not the ’70s kind) this year.
Naeem Khan – With a background designing for royalty
HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
in India, Naeem Khan can show us how to work a ’20s look. This all-over feathered dress is perfect for a night out. The long, loose feathers at the hemline “flap” as you move.
2. SPARKING SILVER
1. BLACK ROSES Chanel – Found in the Chanel fall collection, this stunning black number features subtle rosette detailing on the hip and shoulder.
Diane von Fürstenberg – As this Fürstenberg flapper dress shows, it’s still safe to wear metallic this year. Just remember to leave your sparklies at home: this number is shiny enough to go without accessories.
2. LATE BLOOMER BluMarin - Rosettes were found all over BluMarin’s fall collection. The allover pink rosettes create dynamic volumes. Add

3. BIGGER = BETTER Vera Wang – Think bags and sunglasses are the only things oversized?
Sheer black cropped top Mellinda-Mae Harlingten, $300. Black flapper dress Velvet, $240. Black sheer nylons Secret, $8.95. Fur Vintage. Feather headband Lilliput Hats, $225. Black 1920s necklace MiMi+You, $150. Oversized blue ring Swarovski, $280.

Out with the dull corporate suits and in with layered plaid. Show a little personality (not just through the selection of your tie) and start rocking the look. The tartan print was seen on menswear fall 2008 runways from Jean Paul Gaultier to Etro.
THE MURSE Guys, you can now take everything out of your overstuffed pockets and place it proudly in your new murse. Made famous by Jerry Seinfeld, the men’s purse now holds more of a masculine edge. Practical and stylish, the murse will leave you never wanting to leave home without it.
