n 2005, criminal lawyer Jonathan Arnold thought it would be fun to own a Carbolic Smoke Ball, the anti-flu remedy famous to law students everywhere. He began scouring the Internet looking for one to purchase. After a long search, he was excited to finally find one — although it was a lousy copy and cost $300, way out of budget for a University of Victoria law student. But as Arnold says, “it got me started to see what else was out there.” Three years later, that simple hunt for an iconic smoke ball has turned into a unique collection of legal
