4 Nov 2016–3 Mar 2017 Emerging Talent Talk Series
+ Series 1: “From a Lone Wolf to an Exchange: Opening up the Creative Process to Strangers” Speaker Ms. Teresa Leung wanted to extend her creative process to include other people through the internet and the public – first to people she knew and then to strangers. By creating tangible, intangible and sometimes both sorts of exchanges at the same time with people, she flipped the script by letting participants inspire and influence her creative process. + Series 2: “Filling in the Occupation Column: ‘Artist’ or ‘Unemployed’”
After graduating from AVA, Elvis Yip finally made up his mind to be an artist after working part-time for three years. In this talk, Elvis shared his experience of the time he worked as a part-time gallery assistant and created artwork in between, as well as his career as an artist and the development of his art in these years.
7 Feb 2017 Talk: “SNAP! Building a City Picture by Picture”
The notion of “identity” has become a major point of debate in Hong Kong and other places, in which symbols and images as well as their perceptions and interpretations play a key role. In this context, Mr. Peter Benz, Associate Professor of AVA, explored the potential of photo opportunities as a means of urban intervention. 20 Feb–3 Mar 2017 “DUO” Exhibition
(Koo Ming Kown Exhibition Gallery) The DUO exhibition aims to explore how artists work together and influence each other. Fourteen third-year students from the Academy of Visual Arts were grouped into pairs. They connected their artworks in the process of pondering concepts and created works together based on topics that they both wanted to explore.
