Level 6

RECEPTION / ANDAZ LOUNGE & BAR / BISTRO / OPEN KITCHEN / TAVERN

Upon reaching Level 6, guests are greeted by a vast, double-volume open space that encompasses the Reception, All-day dining, Chinese Restaurant, and bar areas, all without any walls dividing them. The space is divided subtly using drop panels and vertical screens, which maintain an open and welcoming atmosphere. This creates a seamless flow from one area to another and allows the intermingling of boundaries among these spaces, seamlessly integrating and separating them at the same time, connecting them to the pulsating heart of Andaz.

As guests arrive, they are first welcomed by the lobby lounge, which leads to the reception area. The lounge is elevated and includes an L-shaped sofa, a tall standing desk, and additional seating options in the corner. In the reception area, there are two separate counters facing each other, fostering a more personal interaction between guests and staff. The lobby bar is located just beyond the reception area, providing guests with a relaxing space to enjoy a drink while waiting to check in or out. The centerpiece of the space is a state-of-the-art drop panel positioned above

the bar, featuring a modern art piece in a vibrant tangerine hue. The artwork displayed on the drop panel serves as a unifying element for level 6.

Across from the lobby bar is the bistro, which serves as the hotel’s all-day dining venue. The bistro features a seating area and an open kitchen. The absence of walls throughout the entire level posed a challenge in concealing the exhaust, but the studio addressed this by adding bookcases with patterns and rhythms to fill the 8-meterhigh ceiling, creating a visually dynamic impact while maintaining a consistent design language. To further conceal the kitchen from the main area, a bookcase with a similar language as the exhaust is placed between the dining area and the kitchen, creating an aesthetic appeal.

The Chinese restaurant is located after the open kitchen in the tavern, with an artwork that mirrors the bar drop panel above it, creating a seamless design language. Additionally, four private dining areas are tucked away from the open space, providing guests with the option for intimate gatherings.

Level 31

BAR / RESTAURANT / MEETING SPACE

The bar was designed to serve as a versatile facility that functions both as a leisure destination and a meeting breakout area. Divided into three distinct areas, including the bar counter, restaurant, and private meeting and lounge, the bar offers guests a cohesive and multi-functional space that can be used as a meeting breakout area during events.

To create a sophisticated atmosphere, the studio incorporated a masculine color scheme with black and white tones, refined brass details, and subtle tangerine accents. The bar’s ambiance was carefully crafted through attention to space planning, lighting, and furnishings.

The bar entrance features five glass cabinets showcasing the drink selection, while the central

bar counter offers elevated seating with stunning city views. On the left side, the restaurant features an open kitchen in a linear form next to the bar counter. The kitchen area is elevated, while the seating area is not, creating a unique sensory experience. On the right side, there is a private meeting room and lounge that can accommodate up to ten people and a breakout lounge. The ceiling of the bar is illuminated with strips of light shining towards the curved scallop ceiling, adding depth and dimension to the space.

By anticipating the needs of modern travelers, the studio successfully achieved a balance between design, innovation, and functionality while remaining true to Andaz Nanjing’s design language. The result is an exceptional modern destination within the hotel.

Guestrooms

The guestroom at Andaz Nanjing aims to embody the brand’s ethos by infusing innovation, energy, unexpected elements, and tasteful design that would appeal to modern travellers.

Starting from the guest’s perspective, the design of the guestrooms includes warm veneer finishes on the walls and floors, a pitched ceiling that lends a loft-like feel, and minimalist yet elegant furnishings and decor elements that create a luxurious yet unpretentious feel. Chinese ornamental details complement the design, such as wall sconces and pendant lights inspired by Chinese lanterns, a multifunctional desk inspired by an antique Chinese desk,

and a carpet featuring a motif inspired by an ancient Chinese bookbinding technique. Surprise elements are also incorporated throughout the room, such as a minibar and wardrobe housed in a box-like exterior with a warm timber finish on the outside and vibrant colours and patterns on the inside and a shower experience reminiscent of discovering a surprise when unfolding a Chinese jacket.

By taking into consideration the needs of guests, the studio has created a space of supreme comfort with elements of surprise and functionality, while adhering to Andaz Nanjing’s design language bringing guests a truly exceptional experience.

EVENT SPACES

“Andaz Nanjing offers a sophisticated series of versatile, interconnected event spaces, which the judges praised for their functionality and integration with the hotel’s F&B outlets. The design by Avalon Collective comprises a pre-function area, three flexible meeting spaces, a private meeting room with a lounge, and a breakout bar, providing a range of options for different events. The spaces are unified by strips of light shining towards the curved scallop ceiling, providing indirect light and adding depth and dimension to the space.”
