From the Desk of Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero

Happy June!

June is the first month of summer. June 21st is the summer equinox, which is the brightest day of the year and the official start of summer.

With the coming of summer also comes the annual hurricane season. The Atlantic hurricane season is always potentially dangerous. We have been fortunate in recent years that no major hurricane has directly landed in Central Florida. I encourage everyone to attend Orange County’s annual hurricane preparedness expo. This event will be held on Saturday, June 4th from 9 am to 1 pm at West Orange High School, whose address is 1625 Beulah Rd Winter Garden FL 34787. This event will feature meteorologist Amy Sweeney and County staff who will be able to directly answer your questions and concerns and teach about important hurricane preparedness tips. Also, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the annual hurricane preparedness tax holiday that will run from May 28th to June 10th. During this period all essential hurricane safety equipment and supplies will be tax free everywhere in the State of Florida.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, you can email me at district4@ ocfl.net or call my office at 407-836-5881.

Blessings,

Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero
