Pinecrest Academy Exhibit at Avalon Park Arts & Culture Center

On February 22nd, Pinecrest Academy Avalon partnered with the Avalon Park Arts and Culture Center “ACC” to feature hundreds of pieces of art for Black History Month. Led by art teacher, Jasmyne Sippio, each grade submitted pieces focusing on a comprehensive overview in several art mediums of black history. Some of the projects included a wax museum featuring historical figures like Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman and first Native American to hold a pilot license. Other features outlined historical clothing and a diorama of the Harlem Renaissance, which was a time of creativity in art, music, writing and dance in the black community of Harlem in the 1920’s and 1930’s. These are just a few examples of the many talented representations of important milestones in history. Additionally, over 20 students submitted their work to be juried by local artists and 5 were selected to be featured through the month of March at ACC. You can see the winning pieces Fridays 5-8 pm and Saturdays and Sundays Noon-5 pm. You can also see a video featuring all of the work on the Art Center Instagram account: @avalonparkarts.
