From the Desk of Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero

Happy March!

March is Woman’s History Month! This month is an opportunity to celebrate the resilience and strength of women, and to highlight the challenges they have overcome. March 8th is International’s Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a reminder to celebrate the strength, courage, and determination of the incredible women in our lives. This day has been observed since the early 1900s and has since become a global movement to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.

On Thursday March 9th, the Orange County History Center will be hosting the Fourth Annual Women’s History Breakfast. This event will take place at the History Center (65 E Central Blvd) from 8am to 10am. The event will include a short documentary film honoring historic Orlando architects Ida Annah Ryan and Isabel Roberts. Tickets are available at https://www. thehistorycenter.org/event/womenshistory-month-breakfast-4/. I encourage anyone interested to attend this informative event on the 9th.

The Orange County Charter Review Commission has begun meeting. This board is composed of fifteen citizens from Orange County appointed by Commissioners and the Mayor. The board is tasked with researching different policy topics and voting to put charter amendments for the general election ballot in 2024. I urge anyone interested in this process to watch the meetings live on Orange TV or participate in person at the Orange County Administration Building in Downtown.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like to receive my newsletter, you can email me at district4@ocfl.net or call my office at 407836-5881. You can also meet me in person at one of my two satellite office locations. On the first Wednesdays of the month you can meet me at the East Orange Community Center (12050 E Colonial Dr) or on the Third Wednesdays of the month at the Meadow Woods Recreation Center (1751 Rhode Island Woods Cir). My time at both locations is from 10am to 12pm. Thank you again!
