Mark your calendar for Absolutely Avalon on Saturday, April 12, from 5–9 PM in Downtown Avalon Park. This free festival celebrates diversity, creativity, and community with:

Way Foundation. Meet the artists during the Artist Reception at 6 PM and celebrate creativity through culture and youth expression.

Coffee with Beat: Celebrating 10 Years at Encore Assisted Living & Memory Care Community
It seems like the years are flying by faster than ever, while some days feel long. I am writing this during a brief visit back to Switzerland, where the weather in my hometown of Zurich has been nothing but rain, with temperatures hovering in the 30s and 40s. Despite the gloomy skies, my heart is warmed by a truly special milestone: the 10-year anniversary of our Assisted Living and Memory Care community, Encore at Avalon Park.
Wow, 10 years! This achievement fills all of us at Avalon Park Group (APG) with pride. From the very beginning of Avalon Park’s vision over 25 years ago, the dream was to create a community where people can live, learn, work, and play. Our goal has always been to ensure that individuals can experience every stage of life within Avalon Park.
It is not often that developers own and operate an Assisted Living community, but at APG, we take pride in being more than just developers—we are town builders. Operating ventures such as the Marketplace, East Orlando Gym, and The 5th Floor co-working and entrepreneur center is part of our DNA. Encore, however, is uniquely special.
Encore is home to over 100 residents, cared for by a dedicated team of more than 100 staff members who deeply understand the importance of their work. I often remind our team that Encore is not just another business; it is an extension of our
commitment to care for people. While mistakes in other ventures might result in financial losses, at Encore the stakes are higher. The lives of our residents, who are often in need of daily assistance, are the most precious responsibility God has entrusted to us.
The formidable leadership of Kim, Suzy, Monica, and the rest of the Encore team ensures that our residents receive attentive care 24/7. Their passion and dedication inspire me every day. It brings me immense joy to see families entrust their loved ones—mothers, fathers, and grandparents—to our care, often leading to a new chapter of joy and belonging in their lives.
It makes me happy when a family entrusts their mother or father, or another loved one into our care. They often start a new life at Encore, another chapter of joy and belonging. I have met many residents through the years at Encore, but there is one resident who truly stands out and who I have a special bond with. Jose Lebron, who celebrated his 101st birthday on March 1st of this year, has been with us at Encore since we first opened the doors. He is a true gem, greeting everyone in the lobby with warmth and sharing his love for his home at Encore. We affectionately call him our ambassador because of his daily rounds to check on every floor and his reassuring updates when I am abroad. He always tells me that everything at Encore is “under control,” and I believe him!
Thank you, Jose, for your unwavering spirit and presence. Thank you to the families who trust us to care for their loved ones. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you to the Encore team for 10 years of hard work, passion, and love.

Happy April 2025! April is the first full month of spring, with longer days, warmer weather, and nature in full bloom. We also celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd, a day to raise awareness about protecting the environment. This month reminds us to appreciate nature and take care of the planet. As flowers bloom and animals become more active, April encourages us to care for the world around us. It’s a great time to reflect on how we can make small changes to help the environment every day.
Last November, Orange County voters approved charter amendment #6 on the general election ballot. This amendment creates two additional county commissioner districts. To accommodate this, the board of County Commissioners has created a Citizens’ Advisory Board to propose a new county commission district map with eight districts rather than the current six. This board has begun meeting and is expected to complete its work by early September. Additionally, the meeting locations will rotate between the six current districts to allow residents to attend close to home. On April 10th, the committee will be hosting its District 4 Community Meeting. This will be at 6pm at the Meadow Woods
Recreation Center (1751 Rhode Island Woods Cir). I encourage anyone interested to attend this meeting, as this will be a great opportunity for District 4 residents to share their feedback with the committee members and help shape how the districts will look like. Large changes to the current map are expected to be made to accommodate the extra districts so it is important that all District 4 residents pay attention to and participate in the process.

We are ecstatic to announce that Avalon Elementary School is an OCPS Green School and a Florida Green Apple School because of our efforts to create a more sustainable environment.
Our Mariners are learning valuable lessons about how important it is to take care of our world and promote a healthier lifestyle. On our campus, we have a tower vegetable garden, a pollinator garden, a fruit and vegetable garden, and an outdoors learning space. We also have a bird feeder with a motion detection camera and chickens in our chicken coop.
Our committed Garden Club members, teacher sponsors, and
parent ADDitions Volunteers maintain these wonderful spaces. All of these spaces and our partnerships with organizations like the UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, the UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program, and the Audubon Society help us make our vision a reality.
On April 22, Earth Day, our Mariners will participate in lots of enrichment opportunities including outdoor yoga in the morning, story time in our gardens, and a worm farm introductory lesson. 46th South Village Pickleball Tournament
The 46th Avalon Park South Village Pickleball Tournament on March 7th was won by Cheryl Beaulieu and Elliana Harvey. They won a close playoff match against Sean Harvey, Elliana’s Father, and Patti King who is visiting from Toronto Canada. It was the 12th win for Cheryl and 9th win for Elliana. Since we started the South Village tournaments in June 2020, 41 different people have won the monthly tournaments, which is fantastic to have so many different people participating and winning.
