January Update from Pasco County Commission Chairman Mike Moore

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and healthy holiday season! 2020 was one of the most challenging years, but I am proud of the way our community worked together to respond and fight the spread of COVID-19.

On December 17th, I had the honor of joining Pasco-Hernando Early Learning Coalition Executive Director Dr. Steve Knobl to present Personal Protective Equipment to Primrose School at Collier Parkway. This was funded by Pasco County Commission from the CARES Act. The Early Learning Coalition received $159,000 to distribute PPE to 164 early education and child care centers throughout Pasco County. This money will help protect our youngest learners and educators.

COVID-19 cases are once again rising, please make sure you follow the guidelines from our health experts: wear a face covering when you cannot distance from others, wash your hands regularly, and avoid large groups.

It was a great privilege for me to represent our community as Chairman of the County Commission in 2020. I am proud of the work the County Commission did with and for our citizens of Pasco County in a year of great uncertainty. I’d like to congratulate my colleague, Commissioner Ron Oakley on being named Chairman of the County Commission for 2021. I look forward to working with him and all my fellow Commissioners this year.

I have exciting news to kick off the year for our tourism industry! The United States Premier Hockey League will host their hub right here in Pasco County! Teams, coaches and staff from the USPHL will stay at Saddlebrook with practices and games at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel. The league will be in our community from early January to late February. This is a new event to our area that will generate an estimated 4,500 room nights in Pasco County. This is great news for our economy and shows once again, we are Florida’s Sports Coast!

Thank you again to Avalon Park Sun for running my column every month. I appreciate the time to share updates from our community. Remember, we will continue to get through this by working together!
