looking at our Avalon Park Wesley Chapel, below is a snapshot of where we stack up in each of these areas and what is left to come:

Live:

With housing options varying in sizes and prices, including townhomes and single-family homes, the score is at about 75% complete. With the groundbreaking of Downtown Avalon Park Wesley Chapel this year, we are adding additional housing options from apartments to more options for seniors and single-family homes.

Learn:

The Avalon Park area has outstanding schools, from the nationally recognized New River Elementary School to Thomas E. Weightman Middle School and Wesley Chapel High School. Additionally, Pinecrest Wesley Chapel charter school was added as an additional school choice option for our residents in 2019 as a K-5 and is currently under construction on phase 2. That phase will add an additional 600 6th8th grade student stations.

Work:

With the groundbreaking of Downtown Avalon Park Wesley Chapel this summer, we are excited to get started on bringing commerce and jobs to our live, learn, WORK, and play community. You will be able to find a job starting at a young age in one of the many restaurants and shops and all the way up to a highly paid manager at some companies with worldwide reach. We will also be expanding The 5th Floor co-working concept that has attracted over 200 global start-up companies

we are missing a park and a YMCA or gym. Additionally, we are missing more football, baseball, and soccer fields!

But again, the glass is half full when it comes to Play:

For the past 10+ years, we have had the best community events in central Florida, with world-class fireworks and activities for families and neighbors to interact.

Our social and multi-cultural groups like the Jazz Under the Stars, Wesley Chapel Theater, the Pasco Fine Arts Council, and more have created a great sense of belonging.

It has always been and continues to be our philosophy that everyone belongs in Avalon Park. We have spent the past two decades committed to that ideal by changing the way the world lives, learns, works, and plays. So, whether you live, learn, work or play, or all four, we want you to know that You Belong in Avalon Park and we are committed to that for the next 25 years and beyond.

Update from Pasco County Commissioner

I hope your family had a great September! Pasco County was fortunate to have minimal impacts from Hurricane Ian, al though several thousand Pasco residents still do not have power as I write this. I’m proud of the ef forts of the Pasco Coun ty Emergency Management team and county staff for their preparation. Teams from Pasco County are headed to the areas south of Tampa Bay to help with hurricane recovery.

As we look ahead past Hurricane Ian, hurricane season continues in October. Please make sure your family has a plan. You can learn more from the Pas co County Emergency Management Preparedness Guide online. It is available in both English and Spanish.

Congratulations to the Pasco Economic Develop ment Council for anoth er great annual awards event on September 8th. It is exciting to recognize so many local businesses, both big and small, for their efforts. As my time in office winds down, I am proud to have worked hard with Pasco EDC and County team to bring so many good quality jobs for our citizens over the last eight years.

On September 20th, I was honored to sponsor a res olution recognizing the Porter family of Wiregrass Ranch for their contributions to Pasco County. In 2013, Porter family donated the land to Pasco County that would later become the Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus of Pasco County, a centerpiece of our tour ism development strategy as Experience Florida’s Sports Coast. The picture with this column is me pre senting a framed copy of the resolution to members of the Porter family.

Please check out Pasco County’s website at MyPasco. net for all the latest information. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe October!

About: Commissioner Mike Moore represents District 2 on the Pasco County Commission. He lives in Wesley Chapel with his wife and three children.
