ADT Avanti Design Technology
Avanti’s desire to continually improve and do better than before is underpinned by a rider focused philosophy called Avanti Design Technology (ADT) and a development programme that brings the ultimate in race-bred technology to bike riders at all levels. Avanti bikes bearing the ADT insignia represent a design and development approach that is geared to rider capability and needs whether they are for lightness, stiffness, strength or comfort. By exacting technologies such as our unique lay-up of carbon fibre or high strength to weight ratio alloy we enable you to get the very best performance from your Avanti bike.
However, material alone does not make a stand out bike. It is through leading edge design, knowledge of local conditions and rider testing and development input that results in a bike second to none as proven on the world stage by our pro level riders. But even then we’ll want to take it one step further, make it better, go forward. It’s in our name and in our nature.
THE ADT TEAM The diagram below outlines the various functions that have a direct influence on the ADT process. It is the relationship of all these functions working together that have an impact on all product development programs. Whilst the illustration represents many direct / indirect relationships, it is the Product Management Team’s responsibility to coordinate all of the development that is taking place, but maintains the engagement of all the functions throughout the entire development process. With the wide range of product that comes under the ADT process, the ADT development timeframe can be as long as +3 years. Of course timeframes of this duration are more aligned to significant new frame projects. In the case of most ADT projects the timeframe is also reflected on market demand / trends / needs!

ADT Stage 1 - Explore
Understanding the market, what motivates people to ride the way they do and how riders want their bikes to perform is the heart of the ADT process. We are developing bikes that exactly meet the demands of multiple parts of the market. In all categories we want to determine how they can be lighter, stronger, stiffer, more comfortable and faster. The Avanti Product Development team are continuously evaluating the global market for new trends, desires and opportunities. They also seek selective input from Avanti authorised dealers to determine which new ideas are likely to succeed. This dealer input is vitally important as dealers are closest to the trends and needs of the market. In addition to the above input another key process for the Product Development and Marketing Teams is to run a number of ‘Focus Groups’.
FOCUS GROUPS As part of focusing our business on customers and enhancing our ability to sharpen our design leading edge, Avanti establishes Customer Focus Groups. The idea is to get insights into how customers use our products and services, their needs, their wants and how what we do can be improved - by providing a window to the entire market. In doing this we bring customers to the centre of our business – by meeting with customer focus groups several times per year.
OBJECTIVES 1. Gain insights for future product development 2. Test future product ideas 3. Gain insights into different marketing segments – their behaviours, attitudes, language, the way they use products – to increase our relevance

ADT Stage 2 - Define Dream what is possible, imagine the uncreated, the answer to the question of how can the level of rider enjoyment be improved or their desire fulfilled. After careful analysis of the market a new bike is born or a new improvement made in the collective minds of the Avanti Product Development team. Ideas are generated discussed and refined. Some get rejected for not meeting Avanti criteria at this early stage. The winners go to the design desk and on to be created. Critical to this stage is the input of a carefully selected group of individuals who will make up the Avanti product design and development panel. Whether its triathlon, track, road or mountain, Avanti works with the specialist team to ensure a new bike is developed with superior speed, strength, weight and stiffness characteristics. Not only these fundamentals of performance are impacted but also the bike rider position and comfort are enhanced through this consultation process. We are privileged to have access to elite riders in the Avanti rider stable who vigorously test our bikes enhancing their performance capabilities and then go on to become champions riding the finished products to success creating their own new performance standards on the way.
TO SUMMARISE THE ABOVE THE NEW PRODUCT DEFINITION PHASE CAN BE SIMPLY OUTLINED AS FOLLOWS; • All information gathered from the ‘EXPLORE’ phase • Project Team is defined (i.e. Design Team, Engineers, Test Riders, Product Manager, etc) • Ideas are presented and formalised within the Project Team • Design parameters defined (i.e. Test, Performance, & Compliance Standards) • The intended performance and characteristics need to be fully defined With all the above collected this will give the Product Design Team a clear project brief to proceed to the DESIGN phase.

ADT Stage 3 - Design The essence of ADT. Consisting of precise calculations, intricate evaluations, leveraging new technologies and applying them in new ways. The design phase is all about making the impossible possible and bringing an idea to fruition. Essential to a bike’s performance and a rider’s desire for that bike are its strength, weight and aesthetics. These elements are at the forefront throughout the ADT design process and are achieved through a calculated balance of material choice, frame geometry, tube shape design and fabrication method to ensure the optimum balance is achieved.
ADT MATERIAL SELECTION When we developed the rider focused philosophy Avanti Design Technology we knew the selection of the best and most appropriate materials would be pivotal in achieving optimum performance for each bike. It started years ago with Avanti when we were one of the first companies in New Zealand to introduce alloy across our range and continues today with framesets developed from Carbon, Alloy and Cr-mo specifically designed for the intended rider purpose. The following information outlines how, why and where we use these materials throughout the Avanti range. Indeed the core of any bike frame starts with Material Selection and it is the basis for weight, stiffness, strength, comfort and performance. The three key materials Avanti use for framesets are Carbon, Cr-mo and Alloy.
STIFFNESS, STRENGTH AND WEIGHT. Strength and stiffness are different properties that are often confused with one another. It is important to understand the difference, if you want to understand differences in frame materials. Imagine you clamp one end of a metal bar in a vice, and you hang a weight on the free end, causing the bar to flex temporarily. When you remove the weight, the bar snaps back to its original shape. Different materials will flex different amounts for the same amount of force applied. This is stiffness. Now imagine hanging a heavier weight on the bar, so heavy that it becomes permanently deformed. When you remove this weight, the bar does not snap back all the way to its original shape, but remains bent to some extent. When the metal changes shape permanently, it is said to “yield.” Different materials can withstand different amounts of force before yielding. This property is strength.
STIFFNESS Stiffness affects the riding qualities of a bike frame, since a frame suffers no permanent deformation in normal riding. Stiffness is determined by a property of the material called “elastic modulus” (Elastic Deformation). Elastic modulus is essentially independent of the quality or alloying elements in a given metal. All kinds of steel, for instance have basically the same elastic modulus.

STRENGTH Strength relates to the crash-worthiness or general durability of a frame, but has no effect on the riding properties. Strength is determined by a property of the material called “yield strength”. Yield strength is very much affected by the quality, heat treatment and alloying elements used in a particular brand / model of tubing. Fatigue also affects strength of many materials. When you repeatedly apply force to a piece of metal, in general, it will eventually fail. The higher the force, the fewer cycles to failure, and the lower the force, the more cycles until failure. However, when the force falls below a certain threshold, called the endurance limit, you can repeat the application of force forever, with no failure.
WEIGHT In addition to the strength and stiffness, there’s also the question of how heavy a given volume of the material is. This is called “specific gravity”. Like stiffness, the specific gravity of a given metal is not significantly affected by the addition of different alloying elements.
This diagram shows an example of a stress / strain curve. The curve represents a materials high ultimate strength, high stiffness (indicated by the initial gradient) and a high strain to failure. This means that the material is initially stiff but at the same time will not suffer from brittle failure.

Note that the modulus (stiffness) and specific gravity (weight) are pretty much independent of the quality, heat treatment, or alloying agents of the materials. For instance, all steels used, from entry level bikes to the exotic alloys used on the more expensive bikes have a modulus of 200 GPa, and a specific gravity of 7.85 Mg/m3. There are, however, real differences in yield strength among different qualities of tubing. This modulus value shows that if you were to build identical frames from the 3 materials, using the same tubing diameters and wall thicknesses, the aluminium frame would be only 1/3 as stiff as a steel one, and the titanium frame only half as stiff.
The yield values show that the aluminium frame would be very much weaker, in the sense of being more easily damaged than either the steel or titanium frames. The specific gravity values show that the aluminium frame would only weigh 1/3 what the steel frame weighs, while the titanium frame would be roughly half the weight of the steel one. These generalities, however, are basically meaningless, because you wouldn’t build frames out of the three different metals to the same tubing dimensions!
11
ADT Stage 3 - Design ‘Real’ bicycles take the nature of the material into account in selecting the diameter and wall-thickness of each piece of tubing that goes to make up the frame. • Stiffness is mainly related to the tubing section diameter. • Strength is mainly related to the wall thickness (although diameter also enters into the equation). • Weight is affected both by diameter and wall thickness. As a frame manufacturer we need to make the necessary selections of different tube diameters/wall thicknesses and materials, allowing a frame to be made stiffer, or stronger, or lighter for its intended use / purpose.
ADT CARBON FIBRE
Carbon Fibre is an engineers dream come true: A material that is lighter than aluminium and is gram for gram stronger than steel. It can be moulded into complex shapes and sizes, as well as having the ability to be “laid-up” with more material where you need it, and less where you don’t. By utilizing this material, we are able to take our tube shapes and profiles to the next level. Some of these details include oversized diameters, unique shapes, and exaggerated tapers. Every frame implements sizespecific details. For example: the tube diameters of a 52cm frame are noticeably smaller than the tubes on a 59cm frame; even tube transitions change to support areas of the frame differently. All of this adds up to a frame that is stiff and responsive, yet has excellent damping characteristics and vibration control, specific to the needs of a given size rider.
ADT CARBON MATERIALS Carbon fiber is a material consisting of extremely thin fibers about 0.005–0.010 mm in diameter and composed mostly of carbon atoms. The carbon atoms are bonded together in microscopic crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber. The crystal alignment makes the fiber very strong for its size. Several thousand carbon fibers are twisted together to form a yarn, which may be used by itself or woven into a fabric. Carbon fiber has many different weave patterns and can be combined with a plastic resin and wound or molded to form composite materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic (also referenced as carbon fiber) to provide a high strength-to-weight ratio material. The density of carbon fiber is also considerably lower than the density of steel, making it ideal for applications requiring low weight. The properties of carbon fiber such as high tensile strength, low weight, and low thermal expansion make it very popular choice in bicycle frames.
The picture (right) shows a carbon fibre filament (running from bottom left to top right) compared to a human hair.
Carbon heated in the range of 1500-2000 °C (carbonization) exhibits the highest tensile strength (5,650 Mpa) while carbon fiber heated from 2500 to 3000 °C (graphitizing) exhibits a higher modulus of elasticity (531 GPa).

Simply looking at the properties of a single material is no way to judge a frame’s quality. The carbon weave, or outer appearance, which most people recognize is typically used only for the final outermost layer, which is visible through the clear coat. Although this lends some structural integrity to the frame, it is primarily cosmetic. So a UD, 1K, 3K, or 12K weave designation does not necessarily determine a frame’s quality.

Carbon Fibre can be ranked in two ways: one being the Modulus, which dictates the fibre’s relative stiffness; and the other being Tensile Strength, or how strong or tough the material is. Building a frame of just the highest modulus material would be a disaster, as the ride quality would suffer from being too stiff, as well as the overall strength being compromised. The key is to blend different materials with unique properties, placing them in specifically targeted areas of the frame. We source materials from several of the world’s leading carbon fibre manufacturers. We select the optimal blend of three different fibre types and strategically locate them based on their unique attributes. Using the toughest carbon fibre in a given area and the stiffest carbon fibre in another, delivering a chassis with just the right combination of compliance, lightweight, strength, performance and handling. Outlined below are the different carbon materials Avanti employs or blends throughout our Carbon Frames. MATERIAL

CARBON SUMMARY
When it comes to manufacturing the frame, it goes without saying that an incredible amount of design, testing, experience, and cost goes into the development of each Avanti frame. The result is a frame free of compromise and full of performance; providing a frame to fulfil the desires of the intended rider.

ADT CR-MO
The predecessors to today’s Cr-mo frames were first produced in the 50’s. Technology has not changed much since then, and the ride of a Cr-mo frame is still the standard by which all other bicycle frames are judged. Cr-mo can be described in general terms as lively, solid, and predictable. Cr-mo’s durability and tunability make it a favourite of many cyclists. The Cr-mo tubing used in our ADT bicycle frames is 4130. This material has good formability, and is used to create durable tube-sets which provide the ride that Cr-mo is known for.
TUBESET NAME ADT 4130 Cr-Mo Steel DESCRIPTION Is a family of high-strength low-alloy steels (HSLA), as specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Alloying elements include chromium and molybdenum, and as a result these materials are often referred to as chromoly steel, or cro-mo, or CRMO. They have an excellent strength to weight ratio, are easily welded and are considerably stronger and harder than standard 1020 steel. While these grades of steel do contain chromium, it is not in great enough quantities to provide the corrosion resistance found in stainless steel.

ADT Stage 3 - Design ADT ALLOY
With the ability to be cold-worked, butted, and formed into complex shapes, aluminium alloys have proven themselves, time and time again, to possess excellent characteristics for lightweight bicycle frame construction. Custom tubing shapes, when expertly designed can offer far more than just great looks. Ride quality is, of course, one of the most important features to build into the design of a performance bicycle. Internal and external butting, in addition to reducing weight, distributes stress away from the weld zones, while custom tapering and aring tubes can substantially increase stiffness in areas where it is most needed. These properties combined can enhance handling, comfort and acceleration. At Avanti, we use the most advanced types of forming technologies, including state-of-the-art Hydroforming and Super Plastic Forming (SPF, gas forming). Using high pressure liquid to form tubing from the inside out, hydroforming allows for unusual and complex external shapes while being able to utilizing premium double-butted tubing internally. This results in lightweight yet remarkably strong tubing, without requiring gusseting or reinforcement. Additionally, we can directionally-tune the tubing to offer a set of desired ride characteristics. Whether using this latest technology or traditional methods, at Avanti every tube’s diameter, wall thickness, butting and shape is ďŹ ne-tuned to bring together a balance of high performance, light weight and comfort

ADT ALUMINIUM ALLOYS TUBESET NAME ADT 6061 Aluminium Alloy DESCRIPTION 6000 series are alloyed with magnesium and silicon, are easy to machine, and can be heat treated, but not to the high strengths that 2000, and 7000 can reach. 6061 is a precipitation hardening aluminum alloy, containing magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. It has good mechanical properties and exhibits good weldability. It is one of the most common alloys of aluminum for general purpose use. WELDING 6061 is highly weldable, for example using tungsten inert gas welding (TIG) or metal inert gas welding (MIG). Typically, after welding, the properties near the weld are those of 6061-0, a loss of strength of around 80%. The material can be re-heat-treated to restore -T4 or -T6 temper for the whole piece.
TUBESET NAME ADT 7005 Aluminium Alloy DESCRIPTION 7000 series aluminums are alloyed with zinc, and can be hardened to the highest strengths of any aluminum alloy. 7005 aluminium is approximately 5-10% stronger than 6061 aluminium. Double-butted tubes are specially drawn so that they are thicker at the ends of the tubes, where they are welded and stresses are highest, and thinner in the middle to minimize weight. The process of drawing and butting tubes also work hardens the aluminium. Work hardening is a restructuring of the material at the molecular level when the material is heated to a specific range, for a specific length of time, and stressed to a specific degree. Work hardening increases the strength of 7005 aluminium by roughly 20%. Double butted 7005 tubes therefore, are significantly stronger than equivalent weight plain gauge 7005 or 6061 tubes. Double butted tubing allows frame designers to build strong, but exceptionally light frames.
TUBING DESIGN AND FABRICATION
ADT uses unique tubing profiles to maximise power output, minimise frame flex and achieve the most desirable design aesthetics. Whether it is tube to tube technology for lightness and exceptional strength to weight ratios or the pure strength of Modular Monocoque construction you can be sure the tube fabrication on ADT bikes is the optimum for the purpose. Tube size is also important and carefully selected, for example the Pista needs to be stronger so the rider can push all their power through the bike so it has a bigger tube shape, whereas lightness is more critical for the more endurance oriented Chrono using a smaller tube.
17
ADT Stage 3 - Design FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS (FEA)
FEA is a method that realistically models mechanical behaviours using a computer. This allows us to determine the strength, deflection and natural frequency of certain designs before they are manufactured. Different design scenarios, such as tubing shapes, carbon layup design and wall thickness, can be tried. Optimisation of the product can then be achieved before prototyping and manufacture occur. Testing and prototyping is still an important part of the process as it can be used to verify the accuracy of the computer model and used to further enhance future analysis. SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS ARE: • Increase performance (stiffness to weight). • development speed of new products. • reduce costs to develop new products. • provide greater product reliability. • improve quality. • increase product life. • assist with development of testing processes. • improve the product fabrication process. • allow for examination of “what if” design scenarios. • increase customer satisfaction by offering far superior / well tuned bikes.
CFD
Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is an important part of the design and optimization phase of an aerodynamic bike. CFD is an engineering method in which fluid flow and other physics problems are solved using numerical methods and algorithms. Computers are used to perform detailed calculations to simulate the interaction of liquids and gases with surfaces. In our case the fluid is air and we analyse the interaction of air with a bike. It is essentially a wind tunnel inside a computer and this method can dramatically speed up the design and development process.

ADT Stage 3 - Design
TRUE 4-BAR Independent Suspension System Avanti’s Tru4 system uses a true 4-bar mechanism that positions the rear axle on the isolated seat stay (see diagram). Avanti engineers optimised the “virtual pivot point” using Tru4 to help the suspension system operate independently of potential rider effects. This means the suspension works actively and independently so the rider can focus on technique, power and pace. TRU4 HAS THESE BENEFITS: • Pedalling Efficiency – virtually none of your precious energy is wasted bobbing the rear suspension. • Brake Independence – your suspension stays supple when braking so you can stop quickly and choose the best line in every corner. • Optimised leverage ratio creates responsiveness to bumps, a plush feel over rough terrain and good bottom out protection.
INTEGRATED ROCKER LINKAGE TruLink indicates that rocker linkage is a single piece. This ties the seat stays together and reduces lateral flex at the rear end of the bike.

WOMEN + INSIGHTS + SCIENCE = EXCELLENCE
Creating the right riding experience for women isn’t easy. But that’s what we’ve set out to do with WISE. We wanted to really understand what women wanted, what they liked and what they disliked when it came to cycling. We also wanted to get the inside information that would enable us to develop bikes that would quite simply be better for women to ride. And so we went out and talked to riders. Specifically…….
FEMALE RIDERS (OF COURSE!) We’ve empowered a group of women who ride different kinds of bikes in different ways to advise us on how we can create a better riding experience for all women. They are the Avanti WISE women. They’re working together with Avanti to improve the cycling experience for all women. They include mums, mountain bikers, road cyclists, triathletes and elite athletes. None of them get paid for the advice they provide. They do it because they genuinely want to be a part of improving cycling for women. And they want to benefit from it too!
INSIGHTS Through focus groups, discussion, demonstration, experimentation and evaluation our group of WISE women have given us numerous insights and inspired us to deliver bikes that provide a superior ride for women. This means high levels of efficiency and comfort – and a real sense of style! They also inspired us to create the WISE brand – an easy way for you to identify a bike that’s right for women.
SCIENCE This is where the knowledge is applied and the technology kicks in. Our bike designers and engineers have taken the insights and ideas, then blended them with their own know-how and intuition and refined them through our unique Avanti Design Technology process. And the output of all that blending, thinking and designing is frames with specific geometry for women. This means they fit women’s bodies just like they should. The frames have been matched with the right components to suit a specific style of riding and cater for some of those specific female differences such as shoulder width, hand size and so on. Our design studio then developed and applied graphics and colours that appeal more to women. How do we know this? We checked of course.
EXCELLENCE And the outcome is bikes that are simply superior for women to ride – and look at. Whether you ride to the shops with the kids, do trails with your mates or race to the finish line, with an Avanti you’ll enjoy a bike specifically designed for women that feels right, rides superbly and looks striking. Women can take comfort in the fact that WISE means we’ve done all the research, thinking and development so they can have the confidence to just relax, ride and enjoy some great experiences on their Avanti bike. 24

WOMEN SPECIFIC COMPONENTS ARE: 1) SADDLE Women are not designed the same as men, we require slightly shorter and wider saddles for optimum comfort 2) FRAME The frame features geometry specifically designed to fit a women’s physique 3) HANDLE BAR Road: The width of the bar should be around the same width as your shoulders, which are generally much narrower than men’s. The drop and reach from bar to brake lever is smaller to cater for smaller hands MTB / Recreation: Slightly wider than shoulders for extra control 4) BRAKE LEVERS Every Brake lever has been adjusted or has the function to give you a short reach from the handle bar 5) TYRES Road: Selected tyres are a little wider for more stability, comfort, and safer cornering 6) CRANKS In some models the cranks are shorter to encourage a better pedaling technique
COMPONENT SELECTION
When designing frames careful attention is paid to the final component selection. New technologies being incorporated into components can have some major benefits for performance and comfort but special design features may be required on the frame. Some examples of this are, new bottom brackets standards that require oversized plane bore frame shells and direct mount front derailleurs for mountain bikes that allow more freedom for seat tube placement and also make attachment and adjustment of the derailleur much easier.

ADT Stage 4 - Create Bringing the design phase to life; when we create a prototype we breathe life into the machine that will create charged moments of joy in the rider. A prototype frame is developed based on design specifications and made ready for factory development testing. The production techniques and processes have been carefully refined over a period of many years to ensure superior quality is achieved. But it doesn’t stop here as the design and production teams work in synergy continually seeking improvements in techniques and processes.
TUBE BUTTING (ALUMINIUM ONLY) A process where the tube is pulled and/or pushed over a mandrel (former) to create different wall thicknesses along its length. With this method the tube can be made thicker or thinner where required.
TUBE FORMING (ALUMINIUM ONLY) This covers a wide range of different techniques that are used to form tubes to various shapes. Tubes can be bent using mandrels and/or can have more unique shapes with the use of pressing against a specially shaped tool. The picture (right) shows a tube being clamped in a press with the end being formed by a mandrel (1) that enters from the end.
FORGING (ALUMINIUM ONLY) With this method a solid piece of aluminium is place inside a tool that is a negative of the required shape. The tool is closed on the metal and squeezes it to the correct shape. This creates accurate detailed shapes and due to the compression and uniformity of the metal the parts are stronger and more fatigue resistant.
HYDROFORMING AND SUPER PLASTIC FORMING (SPF)/AIR FORMING (ALUMINIUM ONLY) The basic or preformed tube is placed into a specially shaped metal tool. Either oil (hydroforming) or air (SPF) is introduced to the inside of the tube at very high pressure. The tube deforms out against the tool forming it to shape. Complex tube shapes are possible with these methods.

ALUMINIUM ALLOY TUBE - WELDING TIG (Tungsten inert gas) welding is used on our aluminium frames. Smooth welding techniques are sometimes used for aesthetics and fatigue strength reasons. Although on some frames certain components may be automatically welded using robotic welders most of the frame tube joins are usually welded manually by hand. The picture on the left shows a robotic welding process, whilst the picture on the right shows the more traditional alloy manual welding operation. Various jigs and fixtures are used to hold the frame to the correct geometry when welding.
MODULAR MONOCOQUE (CARBON ONLY) This is a process in which the front triangle, seat stays, and chain stays are moulded as individual sections. This allows us to completely optimize each frame section toward a specific requirement; be it Torsional stiffness for the front triangle, or vertical compliance in the seat stays. Each of these frame sections is made of multiple layers of carbon. The number of layers is not constant along the entire part: in areas where the load on the frame is high, more layers are used; and in low stress areas, fewer layers are used to save weight. After these individual sections are created, they are fused together into a seamless Monocoque (one-piece) structure.
EPS - ETHYLE POLY STYRENE (CARBON ONLY) In order to have more stable and consistent production we have introduced EPS into a number of our Team bikes. EPS is a new-patented innovation that will enable products to be made with stable dimensions, and smoother inner layers. This technology is called “wrinkle free system”. Uses internal mould in the production process.
HTR - HIGH TOUGHNESS RESIN (CARBON ONLY) Another new development within our Carbon Fibre manufacturing is HTR. This is an exclusive material that has been developed with one of our most advanced carbon manufacturers. This technology has been designed to meet the demands for better performing, lighter and stiffer frames. The utilization of this technology in our Team frames will give the following advancements: • Higher impact resistance (approx. 20%) • Improved test performance over current carbon fibre resin: • Regular Resin = 80kg/cm2 • HTR Resin = 98kg/cm2

ADT Stage 5 - Test DEVELOPMENT
Rigorous testing procedures begin with factory lab testing. All bikes are tested with exhaustive tests such as the 100,000 cycles dynamic load test. For ADT carbon bikes a specific 10 point testing protocol is adhered to. At this level Avanti has gone beyond standard testing conditions and developed specific testing criteria beyond European EN standard where it is demanded by our design specifications. These unique Avanti testing requirements ensure greater levels of stiffness and strength. Testing applies across all model frame sizes and can lead to refinements in tube shapes, materials and tooling before a result is achieved that meets Avanti standards. CEN EUROPEAN STANDARDS These Standards have been developed in response to demand throughout Europe, and the aim has been to ensure that bicycles manufactured in compliance with it will be as safe as is practically possible. The tests have been designed to ensure the strength and durability of the bicycle as a whole, demanding high quality throughout and consideration of safety aspects from the design stage onwards. Avanti frames are tested to the following CEN European Standards to ensure our products can deliver / perform internationally at the highest level. THE FRAME STANDARDS ADOPTED BY AVANTI INCLUDE: • EN 14764 City and trekking bicycles - Safety requirements and test methods • EN 14766 Mountain-bicycles - Safety requirements and test methods • EN 14781 Racing bicycles - Safety requirements and test methods
RIDER EVALUATION Professional rider evaluation is essential to the success and refined performance of ADT bikes and always follows lab testing. We again bring in our elite athletes for their input and expertise in product design and development gained through years of experience. This level of testing consists of thousands of kilometres of road, track or off road riding. The athletes use their extensive and specific experience in their particular discipline to feed back to the design team and enable adjustments and enhancements to be made, delivering a superior level of performance that comes when you ride Avanti. Throughout this process we redesign, rebuild and retest until it is precisely what we set out to achieve. Or even better.

WIND TUNNEL TESTING
In our continued drive to further develop / enhance our high performance road / track bikes we take testing to a whole new level by putting the frames through thorough aerodynamic testing. The testing is performed in a wind tunnel test and with this we are able to ďŹ ne tune the frame geometry / proďŹ ling / component interfaces to reduce as much drag as possible thus providing the rider with an immediate competitive advantage.

MTB Vapour XC/Race FS COMPETITION CROSS COUNTRY PERFORMANCE; MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY. Ideal for competing in XC, enduro and multisport events the lightweight Vapour is designed for speed and efficiency. The Tru4 4-bar suspension system ensures all your pedalling effort is translated into forward momentum over any terrain while the Integrated Rocker Linkage makes for maximum stiffness and highly accurate handling. If you’re looking for serious cross country pace combined with the handling benefits of full suspension then let Vapour lift your game.
E 4-BAR SUSPENSION
OPTIMISED LEVERAGE
The Tru4 true 4-bar mechanism positions the rear axle on the isolated seat stay optimising the “virtual pivot point” so the suspension system operates efficiently and independently of rider effects.
The Avanti Tru4 design team worked closely with leading shock manufacturers during the frame development to tune wheel rate giving great small bump compliance, more perceived travel and good bottom out protection.
Enjoy optimum pedalling efficiency as virtually none of your precious energy is wasted bobbing the rear suspension.
Low ratios between the wheel travel and shock stroke increase shock velocities enabling the compression and rebound damping circuits inside the shock to give better control of the suspension motion and giving you better control of the bike.
Your suspension stays supple when braking so you can stop quickly and choose the best line in every corner.
INTEGRATED ROCKER The key to an accurate-handling and flex-free suspension frame is linking together both sides of the rear triangle as strongly as possible. Avanti’s one piece integrated rocker link, TruLink, is designed to do just that – lock both sides together so the frame stays true and rigid under even the highest torsional and side-loads. High rigidity for responsive and accurate handling over the roughest terrain. Light frame weight meaning more pedalling efficiency and less fatigue.
Plush feel over rough terrain: supple smooth control. Lighter weight frame that retains strength and durability.
