TWO TYPES OF SPECTRUM ANALYZERS 1. Swept-tuned This is the frequency domain SA which down-converts a part of the received signal spectrum to the center frequency of a band-pass filter by sweeping the voltagecontrolled oscillator through a wide range of frequencies. This enables the consideration of the full frequency range of the instrument. It is the most common SA used in the communication field.
2. FFT-based In the FFT based SA, the frequency resolution is the inverse of the time over which the waveform is measured and Fourier transformed. In a digital SA, Fourier transforms analysis is used. In this, a portion of the input signal is taken with a sampling frequency that should be twice of the bandwidth of the signal. A spectrum will be produced by the Fourier transform. This spectrum includes all the range of the frequency from zero to the sampling frequency
