STATEMENT With the mentality of modernist Architecture, I believe architecture should solve function before it creates form. All my architectural designs derive from conflicts faced in the studies of the site or existing precedents. From developments of new circulation possibilities that create new experiences to thermal processing structures that move heat and cool air in directions to maintain a balance, all my work creates a solution to modern day issues found in today’s designs. My goal is to create a form of architecture that organically creates experiences, ventilation, or simply functions to the fullest extent with the most minimal use of energy. Growing from influences like Zaha-Hadid, Gensler and OMA, my architecture focuses on the experience of the individual going through the structure and what they want to experience rather than a form that forces a set experience for everyone. Using the elements like light, temperature and volume of a structure, my work sets a custom feel for the site. Focus of materiality on top of form has always been set to a limit because I believe architecture shouldn’t confuse but should amuse based on capabilities it gives to the individual. Rather than using ornamentation to create purpose, my work develops understanding of environment and expected function. With my work growing in craft and concept, I find myself feeling more and more comfortable to add complexity in design to show the ultimate modern influence.
FEIT HOUSE Burbank, CA
Originally having a small single story home, the clients clients requested for a design to allow more space for them to live in rather than having all the rooms bunched together the way they were. With ideas of back houses, expansions and more knocked out of the way, we proceeded to implementing a second story addition on the home. The second story addition allowed for certain non-load bairing walls to be removed to provide an open floor plan. By adding the master bedroom above on the second story we were able to give our clients larger living, dining and backyard space by expanding out the house on the first story to the backyard. Above the dining room we were able to provide the clients with a balcony space for them to enjoy privately rather than accessing ground level deck upon exit of the house. With much more room added due to better arrangement of the floor plan, the clients house now is well fitted for the family and their needs.

in greater Los Angeles. The clients requested for a guest room and a restroom that their kids could use after swimming in the pool and a new design for their kitchen, master bedroom and stairway. We approached the design by starting off with the stairway because of it being the first visual upon entry. We redesigned the railing to be matte black coated steel with steel wire cables to give the home a modern look and feel to it. We then used that design to drive the look of the kitchen’s design. We began the design by changing cabinets and the counter tops and proceeded to implement vibrant colors into the backsplash with mosaic blue and silver tiles and the orange simple cut fixtures. Our last move on the house was the design for the guest living room with the outdoor bathroom attatched to it. The guest room with its bedroom and attatched bathroom allows for the clients constant guests to have space of their own.

because of google moving its office into town, the client purchased this home which needed alot of work. When visiting the client at their home, it was clear they needed major changes. We began with restructuring the floor plan to accommodate for the new ideas we had in mind. First move was to expand the center living space upon entry from the foyer. We redesigned the interior of the room, expanded the wall out toward the backyard and provided full transparency to the beautiful view of the pool and garden. After making the yard a crucial experience for the home owners, the client requested a new design for the yard that was existing. With terra-cotta stone we were able to give the yard somewhat of a contrast and a new shape. From concrete patio space to sit outside to the terra-cotta pool-side down to the grassy gardens, the client was able to enjoy the large opening of the home to a luxurious exterior.

ject we had taken on a few months prior to this new addition for the client. The home was completely remodeled from inside out but the owner contacted us to redesign the backyard to implement a pool design on a lot that didnt have one. We began by allowing a fluid transition to the backyard from the front of the house with the driveways design of concrete stepping stones for the car and grass fillers between. Afterwards, we began to put up a wood panel wall for the privacy of the clients backyard when using the pool. To take away the enclosed feeling we proposed evenly placed hedges along the wall face to make the surroundings view land on nature rather than solid walls. The pool design came next, so we thought it would be great for the client to expeirience walking besidge the garden among the house or the hedges along the left side so we created stepping stones that lead to the head of the pool where the access to the top of the copping stone leads to the jacuzzi. The new addition gave the clients something more for their single family residence.

The
main structure of the architectures which has distinctive features that enables structure, community, and organization of space. Education, culture, and entertainment are wrapped and noted on each. Each pillar chiseled, sculpted, and modified by the tectonics of structure and spatial performance. We propose to revitalize a public space where we accumulate the main arteries that stress, interact and promote communicational multi-use. A longitudinal park space and plaza enclosed by the Architecture and Villa itself, this serves as a link of STUDY MODEL - TOP transition. The project is vital to strengthen and revitalize existing public open space to generate a new logic of appropriation that arises as the central focus a meeting Place for Citizen Empowerment.

JOSHUA TREE MEDITATION CENTER Joshua Tree, CA
When thinking of a monk, meditation, simplicity, and seclusion from outside world comes to mind. The Joshua Tree Meditation Center takes these focuses and becomes the meditation as a building, broken down into three stages to serve as the purification process occupants would go through upon entry. The purpose is to use a simple grid structure that would allow the design of minimal distractions in movement through the building to help individuals find clarity within themselves and of the world. The first stage secludes the individual from the dessert, taking the image of feeling lost and confused out of their minds, almost like closing your eyes during meditation. The second stage consists of a library and classrooms which helps find ones self through knowledge and education. From there, the individual is brought into the third and final stage where they become one with the earth through the pottery room. Shortly after the three stage process occupants are then released FRONT ENTRANCE into a redefined and reorganized image of Joshua Tree National Park within its courtyard.

THE SILVER MIST LOS ANGELES, CA
The
design intent of the project is to create a folly that complements the blank slate that runs parallel to the Los Angeles river. In combining mineral, steel and water a form was created to be used by any and all visitors that meander through the site. The steel grid gave the folly its rigid form creating an opportunity to showcase the stunning glass rocks. Not only do the rocks make for a visually appealing contrast to the mesh, they also conceal the tanks in the vertical members which feed water through a tubing mechanism. The water then travels through by force of the water pump and out to create a misting effect. The horizontal units of the project provide an area of rest while the visitors are able to enjoy the fresh effects of the misting element. The location of the folly allows any visitor to sit, relax and enjoy the view out to another Los Angeles landmark which is the Griffith Observatory.

META-CITY STATION SANTA MONICA, CA
Given easy access to Santa Monica without having to deal with the traffic from the 10 freeway we believe this is going to increase to use of public transportation. After analyzing the idea, we discovered it will begin as a domino effect. First human traffic from Los Angeles and Culver city will push into Santa Monica which will then lead to more people using bus transportation since they arrive with the metro, which finally would mean higher revenue for the city of Santa Monica. Leonardo Da Vinci once proposed to divide his city into five autonomous quarters. Cities organization into quarters are an economic necessity which we began to connect to how a human body functions. Our heart is the key to our body functioning. In order for it to function properly it is separated into four sectors where each sector deals with its set parts of the body to work as a whole. Our meta-city will serve as the “heart” to the city of Santa Monica which serves as the “human body”. In relation to our term of use “Quarantine”, we plan to separate each program based on demand. Those there for shopping would go to the shopping sector those there for business would go to the sector in which the business rooms and those who have affordable housing would go to the sector which would have their homes away from everything else. The purpose of the quarantine we create using these sectors is to create a form of order and hierarchical separation between the people coming in and out of Santa Monica. Each person goes in and comes out of the set destinations they come for and are not affiliated with the other sectors unless necessary. Developing this set system creates an order that will increase revenue of the city by almost double because they will be spending more since everything is at point of entry of the train arriving.

ACCOMPIEMENTO APARTMENTS Burbank, CA
The Accompiemento apartment meaning the “joining apartment” does just that… Joins. The purpose of this apartment complex is to reduce the site of homes just spread all over the site on a horizontal plane by putting them into one large complex. With a lot of dead business areas and very low populated streets, reducing housing around the site and using the Accompiemento apartment gives the city an opportunity to develop spaces like Americana, grove, a large mall that will bring in people from all over the surrounding cities and create attraction to whitinall highway once again. deriving from its case study of the Mirador building in Spain, the Accompiemento apartments started off as a typical courtyard concept. Rather than continuing the flat space of the site, the complex was pushed, pulled and rotated on every side to create varieties of accessible areas, views and experiences throughout the complex. With its new offset design the accompiemento apartment produces a new ground plane for tenants of the complex. With each level of the roof, different elevations, different views, and different options are given to the individual. It gives them the choice of what they want to experience and shows a form follows function concept originated from the Bauhaus. With a void space down the center of the apartment, the sunlight suppresses itself as it enters the space below the building.

WATERCUBE AQUATICS CENTER BEIJING, CHINA
For my 3D analytique of Materials and Methods, I chose to analyze the Beijing National Aquatics Center in Beijing, China. The building, also nicknamed the Watercube, has many aspects to it that truly make the building one of a kind. The team of architects and engineers that designed the building truly revolutionized what a typical building skin is thought of with the single largest use of ETFE plastic in the world. In our own project, we made an effort to try and capture the major connection points and various aspects of the building including its truly unique skin. Over the course of the semester and the construction process of our analytique, I learned a great deal about the various materials and aspects we incorporated into the final product. In the steel framework, I made an effort to show the connections of the building but also create an enclosed and contained structure that followed the same profile of the cube. Through the manufacturing process I learned the process cutting and welding steel. In addition, for my aspect of the analytique, which was the plastic bubbles on the outside, I learned the process of CNC milling a form and also the process of vacuum forming which was the method through which I recreated the ETFE skin.

CHANDLER COMMUNITY GARDEN BURBANK, CA
When
the City of Burbank’s Parks and Recreation team came knocking on Woodbury’s door for assistance in design of two community gardens, the design ideas began to take off. After meeting and discussing with local community gardeners, we were able to develop an understanding for what their needs are in design of the perfect community garden. The concept of our project is not to just bring gardeners together but also bring together the people of the community as a whole including little children. With learning facilites and planters for practicing gardening, we believe that our garden design not only gives those occupying it a great experience but it helps expand the benefits of it by influencing the spread of knowledge through a simple community garden.
