CAPTAIN OF THE COLLEGE ADDRESS

ver the past 12 months, we have seen our

OCollege grow together, and our community spirit heighten. We have watched girls support each other, and teachers encouraging students to strive for excellence. I feel honoured to have been part of this community, and privileged to have been elected as College Captain.

As I reflect on the year that has flown by ever so quickly, I smile and know that the memories I have will never be forgotten. The Leadership team for 2001 began with 11 young and enthusiastic girls, eager to make massive changes in the College, but as time went on, we realised that it wasn't the big changes that were important. It was the spirit of the students, the community that always stood by one another and the generosity to help someone less fortunate than ourselves. our College that is willing to guide, learn and assist in all things capable. A position of leadership is not just the meetings, assemblies or the badge. It's so much more than that, it's an interaction with students, staff and the College community, working together for the good of our school.

The lessons we have learnt as leaders are invaluable. Together with the Year 12s we leave the College knowing that our final year of secondary school was full of stress, studying, but also a time where we grew as women. Ave Maria College will always be in our hearts, and we wish all the best for the future team of leaders.

FIONA MULLEN

College Captain

It was evident to the world outside the Ave Maria community, that we had school spirit. From the Swimming Carnival with cowboys, Hawaiian girls, pirates and insects of many descriptions, to the support for the refurbished Chapel, we had spirit. As a team we have organised many exciting events such as the "Big Brother” Talent Quest and the Wmter Sleepout. With record numbers of student participation in both events, it showed the commitment that this team gave to their positions as leaders.

Leadership. Is it a position of a higher status? Far from that. I see leadership as purely guidance for the College through the Catholic faith, a position which would speak for the members of the community, a representative of
