How can the bath house help us beyond the aspect of conservation? Bath Water is an escape from reality. But why do we need an escape? People need an escape from reality for three main reasons solved by Bath Water. Beauty Bombardment in the self care industry, the dread of our world changing after 2020 and the capitalization of the term "self care". By tackling these tree issues, Bath Water can help us heal.

People often experience elevated levels of depression after a traumatic event, Dr. Sandro Galea, dean of Boston University’s School of Public Health and one of the study’s authors, tells CNBC Make It. It can be caused by natural disasters, terrorist attacks or, in this case, a pandemic.COVID-19 infection rates and reductions in human mobility, were associated with increased prevalence of major depressive disorder or anxiety disorders. Females were affected more by the pandemic than males for major depressive disorder and younger ages were more affected than older age groups

By using the wayfinding path of Human Design, users are assigned to a path to follow through the space, based on their birth time. Similar to astrology, Human Design places you into 4 categories that outline different aspects of your personality, and then guide you through the space. When entering Bath Water, you are assigned your path to follow to take the decision making aspect out of the equation. psychedelia of nature Bath Water uses the abstraction of nature by using a topographic landscape that is cut by water. The water provides the main navigation of the space, while the topography provides areas of rest. The topography form allows the water to be used as a circulation path, but also allows for a path above the water as a dry path, allowing for ADA requirements there is a continuous flat dry path along the whole project, but the water cuts through at three different elevations to allow for different depths of swimming, wading and walking.

EQUINOX SHOWERS Lately on my Tik Tok page I have been getting videos about people paying the $300/month subscription for Equionox gym, just to use their showers! I felt this defined my problem, if people are willining to pay that much to use a luxury shower everyday, there has to be some validity to it. I explored some youtube videos on why this is a trend and why people find value in a good shower. They provide hot towels, cold towels, steam rooms, shaving supplies, mini massages, spa, Kheils; shampoo, conditioner, body wash, fash wash, they also have hair ties, deodorent, hair spray. People say they use the showers because their city apartments have terrible showers, so it is worth the price to pay for the luxury shower they don't have access to.

water in healing and self care “Water has tremendous healing potential for the human mind, body and spirit. Water can physiologically and psychologically benefit people because of its therapeutic nature. For thousands of years it has been known to help cure illness, refresh the body and relax the mind.” Source: Health and Healing through Water, Kevin Ebner, University Of Oregon. Water helps people relax, cleanse and meditate throughout history.

WELLBEING HOUSE The Wellbeing House is a spacious, Victorian property in Bath managed by Bath Mind and Curo offering a safe place for respite and a sanctuary for people who are experiencing low mood, a decline in mental health or other life challenges that are affecting their wellbeing. Adults in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) can now stay at the Wellbeing house 7 days a week, where it is staffed 24 hours and support is provided throughout the day and evening, to help individuals develop their own strategies to enhance their mental health and wellbeing. The service is managed by both Bath Mind and Curo working closely together to provide relief for those struggling with mental health problems or emotional distress and prevent further deterioration that could result in crisis and hospitalisation.

SLOW HOUSE Bondi’s newly opened Slow House carves out a dedicated space for grounding and renewal, providing a place to detox and recharge both body and mind by using therapies like LED, sauna and ice baths. Slow House was born out of the impact of the pandemic.Having personally experienced the benefits, Tash and co-founder Jody Coggan knew that Sydney needed an intentional, beautiful space where people could reconnect to themselves in a deeper way, one that looks after our skin but also penetrates beyond its top layers, helping to reframe the mind. Everything about Slow House has been carefully considered. The stunning minimal design is a key aspect to the whole experience, with tonal natural materials like timber and stone creating a sedative effect.

modern surrealism If we follow the pattern that traumatic times lead to surrealist art, can we transform the surrealist movement into the current age of bleakness, and use surrealism to help us remove ourselves from our conscious minds? By using the design principles of surrealism in Bath Water, it abstracts the user from the expectations of reality by placing them into a surreal environment. This helps healing by removing the pressures of everyday life, and allowing them to let go through not having to conform to reality.

influence of surrealism My investigation with surrealism started in our research semester. I started off by investigating stages of grief, which lead me to the headspaces people experience when going through different emotions, like grief, sadness and insecurity. I started making “blobs” to contextualize these headspaces and represent the cloudy feeling of being overwhelmed by emotion. This sculpture is made out of an expanding two part foam, and then by piping acrylic paint onto the form to give it a dimensional effect. This eventually led me to the themes of my project, and how surreal spaces can lead us to healing by removing ourselves from the stimuli of reality. Can post 2020 surrealism unnerve us into healing? If we follow the pattern that traumatic times lead to surrealist art, can we transform the surrealist movement into the current age of bleakness, and use surrealism to help us remove ourselves from our concious minds?

SPCA School

When looking for sites, I wanted a hidden gem within the city. Something that was very accessible to public transportation, workplaces and schools, but still very private and secluded. The subway station is currently used for Cincinnati Water Works pipe storage, and inaccessible to the public. The Cincinnati Subway has a long history of political mismanagement, and is likely to never become a functioning subway at this point. To repoporse the subway into a public resource to give everyone in the city access to not only water, but a refuge from day to day stress would be a smart investment from the city. Bath Houses were originally created at the center of communities, and Bath Water lies in the center

Human design is a personality organizing system that places you into one of four categories based on your birth time. It is similar to astrology, but instead of twelve categories there is four. When you enter the above ground hub area of bath water, you will sign in and be given your category and guide. The guide will tell you in which order, and for how long you will spend in each space within the spa. It is tailored to fit the needs of your category. This is a wayfinding tool to help the user get comfortable with the space there first few times going. For this presentation, we will be following the path of a generator. A person with the generator category is considered the worker of the world. They see other peoples dreams and make them happen.

float floating in water Float is located near the entry into the spa area. It is sensory deprivation tanks aimed at completely depriving the user of all senses, and allowing them to fully relax. Outside of the space is a gathering area where users can wait to use the sensory deprivation tanks, or just hangout and swim. The four levels outside of float, and every space within with the spa are swim level, knee level, ankle level, and a dry walking path. This allows the user to interact with water in anyway they chose. The generator will go to float first, and for the longest amount of time because they need to completely decompress before using the other spaces because it is hard to get a generator to relax.

meditate white noise of water Meditate is located in the back area of the spa. It is designed to a be little more social than float, and will have guided meditations with a group. There is swings, meditations pads, and a shallow pool to create the white noise of water. The four levels outside of meditate, and every space within with the spa are swim level, knee level, ankle level, and a dry walking path. This allows the user to interact with water in anyway they chose. The generator will go to meditate next, they’ve had there alone time and are now ready to soak in the energy of people around them while still focusing on themselves through meditation.

heal bathing in water vapor Heal is all about setting intentions of what you want to leave behind, and then releasing them through sweat. It is a sauna experience where the user sits in a stacked seating ring around the heat source. The four levels outside of heal, and every space within with the spa are swim level, knee level, ankle level, and a dry walking path. This allows the user to interact with water in anyway they chose. This is the second to last space that the generator will interact with, this is because the generator needs time to process their emotions before they are ready to sweat out the bad, and they like to think before they are ready to process. This is also a more social experience then soak or meditate, so the generator needs time to prepare for the social interaction.

soak submerging in water The last space is soak, and this is the most social space of Bath Water. This space follows the princiriple of roman bathouses where they were meant to be a social experience besides just one of cleansing. In this space there is different temperature pools, hot, warm and cool, and topography to provide areas of rest. The generator will go to this space last because once they have processed there emotions through the other spaces, they are yearning to get back to social interaction which will fuel them for their time outside of bath water.
