ertain moments are made eternal in our memories through significant events, being those moments joyful, sad, challenging or full of excitement. Sometimes something completely insignificant for those who see it from the outside, but ginormous for those who actually live it. As unique as a personal moment in our hearts, this new crisis that humanity is going through brings up a sense of collective connection, which will be marked forever in our memories and hearts. Our quarantined hearts are like a path with no direction, where trying to be guided is ineffective. It is like sailing in a rough sea without a compass, and any attempt to be sensible goes against our own nature. In the midst of a global crisis, the fear that comes is natural, it is human after all. And feeling our heart squeezed by fear, reveals us that we belong to something greater than ourselves. Fear reveals us that we are deeply concerned with our family and friends, but also that we have a perspective that crosses borders, breaks down prejudices, and ignores any kind of political view or economic uncertainty. Our hearts amid this storm that plagues the world tell us that we are one and that the world is the backyard of our homes. And even though I didn’t know it, my heart now tells me that I must be strong, because the love and compassion I have for others, reveals me how strong I am. Facing an invisible enemy that tries to make us small, that tries to expose our weaknesses and sins, my heart leads me to keep myself upright and face it. If something positive can be seen, it’s that we are all being affected not only by a disease, but by a sense of collective humanism, which in fact brings us closer and makes us more human. The hope from many is dormant, but it will be reborn, and I believe that these difficult times will be soon gone. And in the middle of the rubbles, I hope for a new, evolved society that flourishes with hearts devoid of shame, spreading how much love there is in this world.

TAG HEUER INTRODUCES A NEW GENERATION LUXURY CONNECTED WATCH BY SILVANA CAMARGO
T WORLD’S MOST SIGNIFICANT ALEXANDRITE COLLECTION TO DATE
Kat Florence Collaborates With Gem Hunter Don Kogen to Reveal BY SILVANA CAMARGO
J
ewellery designer Kat Florence, renowned for creating one of a kind pieces for celebrities around the globe and working with the rarest gemstones discovered, will finally be releasing her collection of fine Alexandrite gemstones in the coming weeks. The gemstone Alexandrite is known as one of the rarest gemstones in the world since its discovery in 1834. Found in the Ural Mountains, this stone was named after Tsar Alexander II. Alexandrite became the symbol of the Russian monarchs as it represents the former Tsars by name as well as by the colors red and green. Don Kogen known for spectacular gemstone discoveries all over the world, who also produces documentaries for the Discovery Network explains what makes this Kat Florence collection so significant: “It is the incredibly clarity of each stone and their deep colors. Each stone in this collection is a perfectly clean Alexandrite from one of the discovery sites in Russia, Brazil, India or East Africa. Kogen who has made a name for himself as the extreme Gem Hunter, points out that the Alexandrite collection from Kat Florence will probably remain quite unique for a long time to come, as all origin locations have been completely exhausted. There are no current prospecting sites for Alexandrite in the world, making this Kat Florence collection a historical collection for collectors and connoisseurs.

EXPERT BACKS AMBROSIO’S BIKINI LINE AFTER OUTRAGE
The Sri Chakra Yantra Foundation defends Alessandra Ambrosio’s fashion line. BY KAROLINE DELGOBBO
A
LESSANDRA AMBROSIO, THE fam-ous Victoria Secret model and Vogue cover girl has been criticized after she launched a bikini line which she captioned as having the ‘power of YANTRA.’ She called the line special because it uses the geometry of the SRI YANTRA symbol proving she is trying to blend spirituality with fashion design. Several Hindu groups were quick to demand that Alessandra Ambrosio publicly apologize and rename her bikini line as they believe it is inappropriate and offensive to their religion. Rajan Zed, president of Universal Society of Hinduism, said that “ancient Yantra,” which is “the visual equivalent of mantra” or religious chants, represents “the Goddess and the cosmos” and is “a serious and sacred symbol or concept used for Hindu liturgy and meditation.” Vinita Rashinkar, noted Indian author of the bestselling “Sri Chakra Yantra” has come to the defense of the former model and states that it is ridiculous for Hindu groups to oppose the bikini line on the grounds that it offends Hindu religious beliefs. In a statement, the author says: “The Sri Yantra is the ultimate symbol of Shakti - the power of the feminine energy.” In the Vedic tradition, the Sri Yantra is regarded as the representation of the universe as well as the body of the goddess related to the feminine principle. If by wearing the Sri Yantra in any form allows a woman to feel the goddess-power within herself and helps her to move toward a radiant and joyful manifestation, then it should not be hurting Hindu sentiments. Zed also said that it “hurt the devotees” through the line, which featured “inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts or icons

or symbols for commercial or other agenda.” Vinita counters this by stating that the Sri Yantra design is seen everywhere from t-shirts to jewelry, even bed spreads and wall decals so it is wrong to single out Alessandra for criticism and accuse her of commercializing the yantra when the whole world is doing the same and no one has raised an issue so far. Vinita explains in her book “The Sri Chakra Yantra” that a yantra is an instrument for meditation which supports spiritual growth. The Sri Yantra is known to be the most powerful among all yantras and is the symbol of the great divine mother principle, the source of all energy, power and creativity.

H&M SS20 COLLECTION HAS CIRCULAR INNOVATION AT ITS HEART BY CARLOS PARDO
H
&M’s Conscious Exclusive collection returns this Spring Summer season infused with the glamour of the Golden Age of train travel while taking circularity as its philosophy. Alongside a host of sustainable processes and innovative fabrications, the collection is inspired by Le Train Bleu, the elegant sleeper train that ran

from Calais to the Côte d’Azur in the 1920s. Bringing together flamboyant evening gowns and gauzy day dresses, the collection features new sustainably sourced materials such as CIRCULOSE®, a natural material produced from recycled textiles and RENU™, a high-quality recycled polyester, as well as leftover stock fabrics from previous collections. The SS20 Conscious Exclusive collection will be available in selected stores and online at HM.com beginning March 26th. “The stimulus for SS20 was the idea of glamorous train travel, which the design team felt was wonderfully symbolic of H&M’s journey as a company towards circularity. We were inspired by Le Train Bleu, and the decadent creatives such as Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso hanging out at Villa Santo Sospir in Cap Ferrat. We wanted to propose a collection that played to that decadent, carefree time but also contained enduring designs our customers will love wearing daily,” says Ella Soccorsi, designer at H&M. Key pieces include a floor-length recycled polyester ball gown; a recycled taffeta mini dress with pleated sleeves; a CIRCULOSE® ruffled day dress; a recycled taffeta blouse with embellished sleeves; and denim which is made of 100 % undyed organic cotton. Key accessories include flat cocktail slippers with recycled glass bead embellishments (leftover from a previous collection) and a bag made from VEGEA™, an innovative vegan leather alternative made from discarded grape skins and stalks.

BEST FOOT FORWARD Spring’s fresh new shoe offerings BY RENATA SANFILIPPO
W
HEN IT COMES TO Spring 2020, I do not recall a season with so many statement shoe collections like this season. Details on heels, straps over the ankle, sparkly buckles and yes, the square toe sandals are still in, thanks to Botega Venetta! Big designers like Manolo Blanick, Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Rogers Vivier and so many other ones are designing their shoes so that people can recognize their brand without a logo. Logo mania is not a brand necessity anymore for the average consumer to recognize a brand. Bottega came out with a very strong campaign last year on the square toes so even though we might have seen it before or might have other designers doing the same square shape toe edge, it became Bottega’s signature look. The same thing with one of my favorite shoe designers for this season, Amina Muaddi. She created that unique crystal sunshine buckle and pyramid shape heels that became a signature for the brand. Christian Louboutin was a pioneer on this trend by creating the famous and unique red bottom shoes. He owns the acclaimed red sole look and other
38
| APRIL 2020
brands are trying to do the same by making themselves more recognizable with their shoe line. By doing that, they make their brands stronger and more desirable because the younger generation of consumers “fashionistas” want and demand more unique shapes and statement pieces that are unique to their favorite brands. Valentino with their rockstuds-look years ago created a lot of good and bad feedback from the public, but after years of repeating itself and sticking to its uniqueness, it became their signature look and more people fell in love with the Valentino’s studs. Roger Vivier and Paris Texas with their signature buckles is another example. If you see the heart shape shoe buckle you know it’s a Paris Texas and Amina Muaddi or Roger Vivier. So, you might ask what is left for those brands to play with and my answers will be colors, leathers, packaging, collaborations and much more. The world of shoes became broader and more creative than ever because designers find themselves having to recreate themselves over something that cannot be changed easily so they don’t lose their identity. No wants to be a copycat therefore they stick to what they first created and wait for acceptance and followers.

WHAT IS KPOP FASHION?
K-pop or Kpop, is an abbreviation for Korean popular music and it’s a music genre that originated in South Korea during the late 1800s. Kpop music is usually a treat for both the eyes and ears, simply because of the fashionable clothing and not to mention the visual effects. With a combination of both retro and futuristic and plenty of street influences, Kpop fashion is by far one of my favorite styles. I love Kpop music video fashion so much that it even got me into exploring different genres within Kpop and watching Korean TV shows or Kdrama.
HISTORY OF KPOP FASHION
As I mentioned above, Kpop began ages ago, but modern Kpop, the one that we obsess over today, only came around in the 90s. Influences from western cultures and musicians like Bob Dylan, Marilyn and the Beatles were a major part of both Kpop fashion and music. Even movements in America like the hippie culture, played an important role in shaping Kpop. However, as time went by, Kpop began to form its own trademark style
of music and Kpop fashion. Today, Kpop is so huge that they’re topping American and European music charts as well. And because of that, their Kpop fashion, too, now has a huge fan following worldwide.
LATEST KPOP FASHION TRENDS • Neon • Romantic ruffles • All white • Suit fashion for ladies
Fans of the music are taking up charitable causes, and according to the global fashion search engine Lyst, they are also wearing the same designers as their beloved K-pop idols. In its “Year in fashion” report, which tracked more than 100 million searches from 80 million shoppers across the globe in 2018, Lyst identified K-pop stars as “major global fashion influencers.” Innovative videos and devoted fans have led to K-pop fashion’s rise K-pop stars’ fashion it’s being so globally recognized that major Haute Couture brands are inviting artists to be ambassadors for these following brands: • BLACKPINK Jennie Chanel • Suzy Bae: Dior • EXO Sehun: Louis Vuitton That was just a little bit of the immense, varied and inspiring world of Kpop fashion. LITTLE WOMEN IS A FILM FOR GREAT WOMEN BY IGOR SAMPAIO
T
HE ICONIC NOVEL HAS BEEN retold on film times before, but director Greta Gerwig explores the March sisters – Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh), Beth (Eliza Scanlen) and Jo – differently. Gerwig jumps back and forth the March sisters’ childhood to adulthood, detailing their creative hopes and dreams and what have become of them. Wardrobe was key in illustrating the story arc of each sister while subliminally outlining their individuality and quirks. Maybe those new approaches are the reason Little Women was 6 times nominated for the 2020 Oscars and took home a statue of best costume design. A British designer Jacqueline Durran is
64
| APRIL 2020
no stranger to costuming period films. She has in her portfolio, titles as 1917, Beauty and the Beast, Macbeth, Pride & Prejudice, and others. But now Durran’s modern sensibility is matched only by her carefully researched designs, bringing to life the 2019 adaptation of the 1868 classic novel. The March sisters — Jo, Meg, Amy, and even poor Beth — represent a generation of women coming of age with a more modern consciousness than those who preceded them. “Clothes are part of the girls’ journey into the world, part of their creation of themselves as characters,” says Durran. Using mid-19th century master painters as touchstones, Durran tailored each sister’s look to the character’s idea of who she is becoming, as written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, and imagined for the
screen by director Gerwig. She didn’t stick to Victorian lifestyle rules, the period where the story takes place, but instead, layered a vibrancy to the designs paralleling the family’s radical nature. “As a rule when you get into the characterization of the family what we were trying to do is make it feel like a real livedin world, so when you watch, you feel that this is what their family life is like.” The designer needed to fashion two looks for each sister to support an interweaving timeline of young and old. Wardrobe was key in illustrating the story arc of each sister while subliminally outlining their individuality and quirks. The skirt length was one driving force to establish age as children in the Victorian era tended to wear a shorter hemline than
adults. Corsets also marked the transition between childhood and adulthood. As an example of this concept, we can see a character Meg, who attends a dance wearing a full-skirted pink dress and matching gloves. “Going to this dance is part of her young self. Something that she wanted to achieve as a girl and then puts it behind her,” mentions Durran. “After we see Meg pivot and she wears a corset which is a connection to her older self.”
Durran orchestrated three distinct dances for the film. One being Meg’s lavish party. The second near the March home that touted a more rural, homespun vibe. Here, Jo dances in a floor-length red dress with her childhood friend and neighbor Laurie (Timothée Chalamet) on the porch as a way to escape the contrived evening. The other, attended by Amy, aired a European chic style with hundreds of extras wearing rich blacks and darker hues. “The
idea of it was a more sophisticated approach. One that hadn’t hit America yet,” notes Durran Durran, whose work is also featured in the forthcoming “Batman” reboot, with Robert Pattinson, on Little Women, Durran had an opportunity to highlight the group of young, brilliant and talented women, resulting into a masterpiece where everyone can see and understand the delicateness, beauty and power of women.

2. Proper hydration allows lymphatic fluid to flow more freely throughout the vessels. Without enough water in our body, that fluid stays stuck and stagnant. 3. Walking, yoga, running, swimming, stretching and strength training are wonderful ways to keep the lymph flowing. 4. Dry brushing helps increase circulation and helps improve your skin tone if you suffer from cellulite. 5. Deep breathing. Proper movement of air through the lungs helps move and pump fluid through the lymphatic system while providing it with fresh oxygen. 6. The lymphatic system can also be supported and flushed with herbs and supplements that target the lymphatic system directly. 7. Rebounding on a mini-trampoline is another great way to flush the lymphatic system. 8. Lymphatic massages can increase the volume of lymph flow by as much as 20 times, vastly increasing the system’s ability to remove toxins and infectious materials as well

self-massage is a free option! If you’re constantly tired, have trouble losing weight or always sick, maybe it’s time to give your lymph system a good cleansing. Here are 8 different things you can do to get your lymphatic system back on track to reveal a healthier, vibrant you! 1. Eating a proper diet rich in fruit and vegetables is essential to ensuring your lymphatic system is clean and flowing free.
Your lymphatic system is twice as big as your circulatory system. Your gut lymphatics make up 70% of your immune system and is your first line of defense against food borne illness! Lymph in your abdomen plays a role in fat absorption and metabolism. Giving yourself a tummy self-massage 5 minutes a day can alleviate these symptoms by increasing the peristalsis (organ motility) that may be impeding lymph flow.

MY PLASTIC PEOPLE BY SEIGAR
T
HIS PHOTO-NARRATIVE IS MY MOST PERSONAL, serious and ambitious project so far. I’m trying to give some dignity and humanity to all the plastic people around the world. As a street and travel photographer, I have had the opportunity to take photos of shop windows in many cities, and that is where I have found the inspiration for these images. They tell me tales and stories about life. They have always showed me their human substance. Every photo creates a fantasy. Their faces, looks, eyes, clothes, shadows, and reflections portray them as the new and modern society. In this selection, we find these beautiful women surrounded by reflections of their cities. Reflections always help me to make complex photographs. I’m not afraid of complexity. I like getting richness. I don’t try to follow conventional compositions. I just keep loyal to my eye. If I need to break rules to show an image, I just do it. I feel my plastic people are free too. There is even some chaos in the worlds I portray. Even though I have studied a photography course for two years and also do my own training, I have always tried to follow my instinct. These ladies seem all to be feeling different emotions or sensations, such as confidence, arrogance, sadness, daydreaming stare or challenging poses. Viewers can realize there is a human touch inside them. My intention is the humanization of mannequins found in shops. I feel the need to make them talk to the world. They all have a message to say. My visions are just the way they have to speak, working as a channel. My visions have been influenced by pop culture. I have been attracted to the works of unique and strong artists. I guess they have deeply inspired me, even though you cannot see directly their prints in my photographs. What you can see is that I conceive art as a passion as they do or did. I refer to artists such as the cinema makers like Pedro Almodóvar, Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Aldrich, Quentin Tarantino or Lars Von Trier. In the music and performance category, I feel devotion for the pop threesome: Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince. Then, Frida Kahlo, Dalí, Picasso and Warhol are the painters that obsess me. The best photographer in the world right now is Mister Martin Parr; I must confess “he is the one”. All these artists share something in common; I will call it strong views. I have been participating in exhibitions and been featured in international magazines with this project. My Plastic People have

become an essential part of my street photography. I owe them the world. I would like to keep on travelling to find more characters for these tales. It’s so inspiring when I get to a new city, town or a village; and I go around walking, looking for them, the reflections, the saturated colors, the buildings and architecture behind them, the lights and shadows…It’s exciting! There is also a cultural aspect in them. They sort of represent the people from the country where the photographs were taken. Their mood, clothes, body awareness issues, make up and hairstyles show the traditions, beliefs and even values from the places. I would like to end this short essay about them, stating the universal human quality of this project, because as I said before, they have become the portraits of our modern society. There is an analogy with the human nature.
