AFI KLM E&M and Lufthansa Technik Developing a New Joint Embraer E-Jet Component Support AFI KLM E&M and Lufthansa Technik, tw o market leading MROs, agreed to launch a new joint offer dedicated to component support for Embraer E-Jet family aircraft (E170/E-175 and E-190/E-195).
Increasingly few er Boeing 737 Classics are taking to the skies as airlines in the EU strive for enhanced efficiency and compliance w ith stricter noise regulations. Facilitating this are dow nw ard pressures on new build prices as both Airbus and Boeing seek to procure greater market share. Moreover, an accepted reduction in the useful service life of single-aisle jetliners (from 35 to 20 years) questions their ongoing viability. While the European air transport industry itself continues to expand, the prospects for new ly rated 737CL pilots remain undetermined. Indeed, carriers are already phasing out the once ubiquitous 737 Classic (-300/-400/-500 series), in favour of the benefits afforded by the more modern 737NG and Airbus A320 variants, w ith the latter taking notably higher ground. Bush flying through the more desolate parts of Africa remains a firm choice for pilots seeking raw , hands-on, unadulterated flying experience. Indeed, it has long been an attractive route for CPL holders fresh out of flight school looking to build up their flying hours. How ever, bush flying jobs have also managed to draw a sizable number of experienced airline pilots looking to escape the relative monotony of their w ork. Now adays, there are opportunities for expat pilots in Africa w ith as little as 300 hours on a Cessna 208/210 or Beechcraft KA 100/200, although salaries remain somew hat low (ranging from $800 to $1700) for a joining copilot. Fitting to this theme, it raises the question: w hat challenges could one expect from a bush flying career in SubSaharan Africa? Read M ore

The US-Finland trade seems to be relevantly moderate – the USA accounts for only approx. $6-7 billion of the total $145 billion export and import trade of Finland. How ever, over one third of all the imported aircraft parts reach the Scandinavian country from the American aviation suppliers. As many of the local air carriers continue seeking for w ays to restore their broken balance sheets, they should reconsider w hether acquiring aircraft inventory from another side of the Atlantic is still an effective and cost efficient solution. After all, there are plenty of alternatives, such as buying, leasing or exchanging the required parts from regional and local suppliers and these can help to save both time and money. Read M ore
