Aviation Week Network Market Forecast | Key Driving Trends that Shape the Future of Commercial Engine Fleets & MRO

Get the facts and understand what the data means as you hear expert analysis on the current outlook for the market and critical trends. The post-pandemic world saw the creation of altered market dynamics with new opportunities along with labor shortages, supply chain issues, and uneven recoveries around the globe. Based on the driving trends, learn how the future looks for engine fleets, see how the composition changes, and observe how the MRO aftermarket responds to those market drivers. We’ll dive into the major trends impacting the market, how new deliveries will shape the landscape, and follow the dollars for the aftermarket upkeep of the fleets around the world with a particular focus on the North America market.

Brian Kough, Senior Director, Forecasts & Aerospace Insights, Aviation Week Network

10:15am

PANEL DISCUSSION: Engine & Airframe Production Rates

Following on from forecast data, how are engine OEMs effectively ramping up their supply chains, to keep pace with production targets from Boeing and Airbus? What will be the impact of heightened production on the aftermarket and legacy products? What kind of ecosystem approach is required, to ensure a balance between the new and legacy powerplants? What will be the consequences to the aftermarket and operators, if both lines cannot be supported effectively?

Moderator: Guy Norris, Senior Editor, Aviation Week Network

PANEL DISCUSSION: Capacity & Opportunities in the Aftermarket

Building on the previous conversation on production rates. What strategies are MROs using to develop capacity for next-generation engines, whilst maintaining legacy capacity? How does the panel see the aftermarket developing in the coming years? How will roles differ between OEM service centers and independent MROs, both inside and outside of the OEM Network? How is the scope of overhaul changing and what is the outlook for hospital and quick turn visits moving forwards? Do supply chain constraints and availability of parts present PMA and DER options for legacy powerplants?

Day One

Wednesday, February 8, 2023

1:45pm

HOSTED SESSION: More with less: How can engine MROs thrive in this new normal?

Every player in the Engine MRO industry wants more customer centricity, more efficient operations, more profitability, more stability etc. However, when it comes to achieving those targets, there are significant challenges. Fewer qualified technicians, fewer reliable supply chain partners and strained resources. The question that arises: can ‘more’ coexist with ‘less’?

Tune into this session where speakers will be discussing the top priorities and challenges in the engine MRO industry including labor shortages, higher material costs, supply chain uncertainties and how they are leveraging technology to their advantage in achieving their business objectives.

Moderator: Mark Schulz, Founder, #DigitalAircraft

Jim Andrews, VP & General Manager, Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions

Julio Ramirez, VP Sales & Customer Support, Global Engine Maintenance

Manoj Singh, President, Ramco Systems Corporation

2:20pm

PANEL DISCUSSION: Data Sharing & Connectivity

Across the aftermarket, how can industry enable efficient data connectivity and sharing to benefit all parties? Across engine manuals, health monitoring, work scoping and inventory tracking, data usage and sharing remains compartmentalized and nonstandardized. What must be done differently to ensure digital capabilities can be capitalized on by all parties?

Moderator: Richard Brown, Managing Director, Naveo Consultancy

Kevin Beach, VP Technology Operations, Tsunami Tsolutions

Jim Berberet, President, Triumph Product Support

3:05pm

Engine Stand Management with Distributed Ledger Technology

Engine stands, as well as container modules and other engine transportation equipment are valuable assets. Yet, in a fragile supply-chain environment, they are often misplaced, lost or broken and in general under-utilized. Global Smart Stand Management using IOT with Distributed Ledger Technology can provide real-time and accurate availability data allowing our industry to collaborate in asset sharing thus increasing the utilization rate of the global fleet of engine transportation equipment by an estimated 30%.

Marcelo Riso, Global Aerospace Product Manager - Engine Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel

Todd Siena, Founder & CEO, Block Aero Technologies Holdings

3:30pm Afternoon Coffee & Networking Break

4:00pm

PANEL DISCUSSION: ESG for MROs

ESG discussions are often centered around airlines and OEMs, but what progress must the MRO community make in this area? From reducing the carbon footprint of operations and assessing the impact of a global supply chain, where can improvements be made? Will ESG credentials be a key differentiating factor for contract choice in the future? Improvements will not be cheap for MROs, but can they afford to not make changes?

Moderator: Samuel Sargent, Transportation & Services Principal, Oliver Wyman

Geraldine Barnuevo, VP Sustainability, GE Aerospace

Jim Clarke, EVP Global Engine Support, HAECO Americas

Matthias Düllmann, CFO, SR Technics

Vesa Paukkeri, CEO, CTS Engines

4:50pm

PANEL DISCUSSION: Long Term Workforce Strategies & Industry Perception

Workforce building and retention remains a critical challenge for the engine MRO community. Looking beyond schemes such as relocation packages, bonuses, and career acceleration, what are the long-term strategies to educate, recruit and retain a diverse pool of talent? What new efforts must industry commit to, to tackle the image and perception of this sector?

Moderator: Alan Phelan, Founder & CEO, APTN.aero, Head of Engine Trading, AFG.aero

The integrated solution helps in a wide range of functions from induction planning to customer delivery & invoicing. Advanced capabilities such us digital task cards, kitting & due parts tracking, configuration control, scalable and configurable repair schemes, critical path & turnaround time management, mobile work execution and automated invoicing help in eliminating paper and inefficiencies. The below 5-step process further details how the solution simplifies and adds value to the entire Engine MRO process.

Digitalization of OEM documents:

The e-Publication module can process the PDF-based, XML/SGML-based technical documents. Also, with its Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) capabilities, it can access the OEM manual library from the place of work through secure logins and API interfaces. This increases the operational efficiencies, by reducing the time and effort required to process the technical contents.

Smart automation: Engine maintenance processes generate wealth of data pertaining to the defects, parts consumed, labor hours, elapsed time to carry out the repair and overhaul procedure. Accumulated over time, this data can become a goldmine of information to gain insights. Our solution derives the insights in all key processes and help customers gain an edge over competition.

Mobility-enabled shop floor work execution:

Our Mechanic Anywhere mobile app helps mechanics to book time, report findings, request parts and tools, and access the technical documents from the place of work. It also helps to collaborate with fellow technicians through chat, videocall, screenshare from the same device. With the required regulatory approvals, the app future proofs your operations with digital sign-off.

Ecosystem Integration:

The seamless flow of data between the ecosystem partners such as suppliers, contractors, shipping partners, banks is essential for augmenting operational efficiency. Ramco enables a robust customer ecosystem through EDI, customer portal and apps, thus providing the dual advantage of boosting efficiency and improving value to the customers.

Real-time KPI monitoring:

Our integrated data analytics provides KPIs related to TAT, quality, cost, resource utilization, and warranties and are computed dynamically without any need for manual consolidation and preparation. This makes way for a transparent and timely availability of insights for better decision-making.
