Although listed as a Role Play SIM, the 1 920s Berlin Project is much more than that. It’s interactive history with artfully crafted displays. The journey begins seven hundred and fifty-one meters above the SIM, in a beautiful vintage reconstruction of a downtown shopping district, called Market Street. Although the landing is directly next to the train station, which brings visitors down the role play area, Market Street is so well built that it merits the time spent viewing the displays. Freebies are offered at the landing point. Visitors to the ground must be dressed in period clothing. It is also required that avatars be realistically proportioned, i.e. avatar height should be the same as a real life human’s height in the 1 920s. All of the furnishings and buildings are sized for those proportions. Once dressed appropriately, visitors can board the
train at the Bahnhof Teleportplatz to be taken down to the SIM. Inside the train station take a free copy of the Berlin Guide which provides background and touring information. The year is 1 929 and Germany is a republic. Berlin is a liberal and tolerant city. Hermann Müller is the Reichskanzler (Chancellor.) Paul von Hindenburg is the Reichspräsident (President) and Gustav Böß is the Oberbürgermeister von Berlin (the Mayor of Berlin.) The train from the landing point brings visitors to Bahnhof Berlin Alexanderplatz train station. Historically accurate, visitors find opulence and poverty. The ornate Hotel Adlon, with its crystal chandeliers is located a few blocks away from injured, sick war veterans, who beg for money and homeless orphans that huddle in the snow beneath bridges and elevated train tracks. 1 929 Berlin was the final year of the Golden Era,

which had brought culture, art and social liberalism to the city. Theaters and museums can be found, along with numerous dance clubs. The most famous of which is the Eldorado, a cabaret frequented by the LGBTQ community. It was a time of enlightenment and a time of strife and great political upheaval. Trains pass overhead and even higher, a dirigible flies above the city, while a trolley passes, carrying visitors to numerous stops, including the famous Hotel Adlon. Posters and pamphlets litter the city streets, announcing the Mayday Communist Party demonstrations. It is these demonstrations that led to bloody riots in which thirty people were killed (including the mayor), two hundred were wounded, and twelve hundred were arrested. The 1 920s Berlin Project is an immersive journey into the past. Visitors can experience the look and feel and history of Berlin during the final days of the Weimar Republic. Role players can choose to live in the city, renting a house or an apartment, hold jobs, and enjoy the role play experience. There are regularly scheduled events in the ballrooms and clubs along with changing exhibits in the museum. For anyone seeking to experience life in the 1 920s, this is a perfect destination.

the Christmas ExtravaDanza! the ACM mini tour with Nikki Mathieson
With the upsurge of fantastic dance shows across Second Life, I was directed to a really great production that was held, at a limited capacity, for the Holidays. I visited the Christmas ExtravaDanza and really enjoyed an incredible journey of Holiday Magic. I had heard that the sim filled quickly and the performances were limited to four, so I arrived early. After ensuring that they welcomed picture taking and would be okay with being in the next issue of ACM, I gathered the info about the team behind this fantastic production and hopped on the sleigh. The production team was a shorter list than I imagined.. it was so well done and I doubt they slept much in the days and weeks.. nahh months (surely) leading up to this show. The sleigh tour lasted about 2 hours and really brought the Christmas spirit to SL. Choreography was fun and entertaining and just like the real deal. The sleigh traveled from scene to scene, set to set.. each one a marvelous display to showcase the dance that would take place to a favorite festive tune. I couldn't say it any better than the writer of the information card I received upon arrival. “A sim-wide winter wonderland awaits, with reindeer stopping along the way for you to enjoy the splendor of Christmas, celebrated with music and dance! A sleigh ride across a winter wonderland of spectacular dances, celebrating Christmas around the world and through time! From the North Pole to Whoville, a lighted ice palace to Victorian charm, frozen forest fantasy to rusty Holden utes, this very special show will be a highlight of your holiday season. Some of SL's most dedicated dancers have been working very hard to create a Christmas ExtravaDanza for your enjoyment.
CREDITS: The sim-wide venue (which was granted to this

Dami en H arrow Draegonne: From RL H orror Wri ter to SL Vampi re . . . and Back written by: Parthenia Church-Horngold photos by: Roman Godde
In order to cure the January doldrums, I treated myself to a chat with the vampire Damien Harrow Draegonne, a Second Life character created by a real-life author working in the genre of horror fiction. Damien entered the vampire world in the usual way. He braved the unknown dangers of a dark castle, found a vampire clan willing to embrace him into his role play system of choice (Progeny), and started to flesh out a backstory for his role. But then something magical happened. Through some strange alchemy, his quickly evolving backstory morphed into a twenty-part saga that he decided to post serially on his author-blog, allowing it to dominate the headlines from October through January because, as he says below, Damien simply insisted that his story be told. The sprawling narrative spans two continents and many decades – centuries even, chronicling how Damien slowly becomes aware of the significance of a dark presence, “Harrow,” who had been charting, perhaps stalking, the Draegonne family line for generations. Meanwhile, within Second Life, the boundary that separated Damien the role player from Damien the author began progressively to erode. In the interview that follows, Damien channels the voice of his author-creator, whom he half-playfully and halfresentfully acknowledges as the tiresome yet indispensable “meat suit” who bankrolls his lavish lifestyle. PCH: You are a horror writer in real life, and you play a vampire character, Damien Harrow Draegonne, in Second Life. To bridge those two worlds, you write a blog that is essentially a novella telling the story of your character’s transformation into a vampire, and his journey of self-discovery – something that was both motivated and made possible by his newfound abilities. What was the impetus behind doing this? Was it your intention all along, or were you inspired to write the blog after you became immersed in the character? DHD: "I have always tried to keep my life, and Damien's life, as separate as possible. When I created him, I
wanted him to be his own person. He doesn't speak like I do, he doesn't act like I do, and I always tried to avoid using Voice chat or anything else that breaks down the wall between us. Now, Damien has done a few roleplays before; he's been a Dark Elf and a Timelord. But I kept these adventures separate from my real life career. With 'Progeny,' something unusual happened. Damien kept nagging me to tell his story. He wouldn't give up. And the more I thought about it, the more interested in the project I was. Vampires are not *born* what they are, they *become* what they are, and that story of transformation from one thing into something else really seized my imagination. I had never tackled it before. So for the first time in our relationship, Damien and I tore the wall down. My real life readers got a glimpse into his world, and his inworld friends got their first look into mine. It wasn't planned; it just happened." PCH: What type of feedback have you gotten from your readers concerning the role play, and have any followed you inworld in order to interact with your character? DHD: "Taking down the wall between us has had some interesting results. In the last few chapters of the 'Progeny' story we meet 'Lee Harper.' Lee followed my work in real life and decided to join Second Life because of the blog, which was a bit surreal. As a writer, you do your best to bring the reader into your world, but in this case it very literally happened. She was reading the story and now is a part of it. There's a kind of 'through the looking glass' dimension to that I find really exciting. PCH: A promise you made to your editor, or perhaps a declaration, was that you would never have an “Anne Rice moment.” Do you feel as though you are moving in that direction, or writing in a manner that you had not expected when you set forth on this experiment? DHD: "I met Anne Rice very briefly in 2009, right after she had returned to Catholicism and given up writing about vampires (she changed her mind again a couple of years later). At the time she said she had given them up because they were boring now . . . EVERYONE was writing about beautiful, sexy, superhuman vamps. And it's true. Anne really pioneered the idea of vampire protagonists, but then everyone just copied
52
her. As an artist, I don't want to just ape something, so I jokingly told my editor to shoot me if I ever wrote an Anne Rice story. So I was a little squeamish about 'Progeny' story, and so was my editor. But I found as I started writing it that my vampires were more traditional in some ways, more 'Dracula' than 'Lestat' or 'Edward Cullen.' I saw them more as creatures caught in the borderland between the living and the dead, and I tried to let that vision keep me from going too far into Anne Rice territory. I still don't think I would ever write a novel about vampire protagonists, but 'Progeny' let me explore the theme." PCH: To what extent does your inworld existence affect the way you write, and the themes on which you write for “real” world audiences. How do you feel the two versions of yourself – your “meat suit” and your vampire – inform or shape one another DHD: "Actors are not their roles and writers are not their characters. Sean Connery was never really James Bond, and Conan Doyle wasn't Holmes. But the border between avatar and user is a unique one. It's a lot more blurry. All of us, at some point, wrestle with the line between where the avatar ends and the real person begins. 'Progeny' is about vampires, sure, but on a deeper level it is about walking that line. In past role-plays Damien was a cruel, ancient Dark Elf and then a devious, manipulative Timelord...both of these types became 'Harrow.' And that left 'Damien,' in the story, as 'me.' The whole story is about discovering
55
which is really which...how much of me is Damien and vice versa. So in 'Progeny,' the two personalities did a unique sort of dance. I think Damien and I shape each other more than ever before. PCH: You mentioned that you had known about the vampire role play that you do – Progeny – for about four years before actually taking the plunge and joining. Why did you wait so long? What was it that intrigued you about Progeny in the first place? DHD: "I don't mean to offend anyone, but speaking as a horror writer, I have always had an image of vampires as predators. To me, the perfect modern day vampire is Hannibal Lecter...he is elegant, cultured, well-mannered, brilliant...but he freaking EATS people. He's a bloodthirsty psychopath, a monster that happens to look human. Now, when I first joined Second Life, 'Bloodlines' was starting to take off, and you had these vampires
walking up to you telling you how wonderful their new families were and politely asking to bite you. They didn't sound to me like vampires, they sounded like Christian Youth Groups or Hare Krishnas. Again, I am not trying to insult anyone, but it just wasn't for me. Then I started to hear about Progeny. In fact, I first heard about it in a goth club. People were talking about these new vampires that could attack you anytime anywhere and you would never know . . . and they sounded scared. It clicked in my head, 'these are vampires...hunting in secrecy, seducing their prey to lure them in close.' I knew I wanted to be a part of that. As my other role-play wound down, I decided to go for it." PCH: Some of the characters in your blog story are patterned on individuals who were part of your Second Life before you became a vampire. They were unaware at first that you were role playing a vampire and that you were including their “doppelgangers” in your story on the
blog. Have they become aware of these things by this point, and how have they reacted to it? DHD: "That was hard! I take my role-playing seriously, so i didn't just gather everyone together and say 'Hey guys, I am a vampire now.' Instead, I dropped subtle hints. The only person I actually sat down to 'come out of the coffin to' was my partner, Kyne (who readers will know as Kit Katsuyama). But it was impossible to keep hidden, because suddenly for the first time right there in my profile was a link to my real life identity and the blog. That
meant at the same time they were discovering I was a vampire, they were also finally discovering who I was in real life. Since my Dark Elf days I have kept a few slaves, and the one who has been with me longest was excited about the change. He immediately took on the role of Stefan, the familiar in the blog. For the most part people have been cool about it." PCH: I know you are planning to return to a much more robust series of inworld role plays that will take up from where your story left off – you will be coming home to your clan after your journey of self-discovery.
Will the SL characters on which the story characters were patterned be taking an active part, and how do you envisage that unfolding? What have you learned from this experience? DHD: "Everything is changing now, especially since Our Darkest Lord, Lachiel, is initiating this inworld LARP [live action role play] project. For me the timing could not have been better, because I can just transition from my origin story to chronicling this LARP. Of course, the characters will come with me. Kit Katsuyama and Stefan, probably also Lee. They won't be entering as
56
vampires though. As for what I have learned, I can't fit that into a tea cup. As I said, it has been a real exploration for me . . . just as Damien struggled to balance his identity and Harrow's, Damien and I are now closer than we have ever been before. That sharp line of separation is down. I am not sure how this will play out in the future, but I look forward to seeing what comes of it." PCH: Anyone who wishes to read the full exploits of Damien, will find part one here: http://andrewloganmontgomery.blog spot.jp/201 4/1 0/progeny-partone.html. A NEW AND FRESH SEASON IS APPROACHING It's Relay For Life of SecondLife Time! a few facts you might not know about RFL
by Nikki Mathieson ~ photos by Wildstar Beaumont The American Cancer Society has received a lot of support with it’s signature fundraiser, Relay For Life, since the event’s beginning in 1 985. The founder of the annual fundraiser, Dr. Gordy Klatt succombed to stomach cancer in 201 4, but died knowing that his vision has led many to join the crusade. Due to his vision and The American Cancer Society's resourcefulness and dedication to finding a cure, thousands upon thousands of people have joined the crusade and rally every year to raise awareness, needed funding
and to renew hope and determination in what has now become a worldwide effort. The American Cancer Society has released new figures and facts over the past few years, that demonstrates it's intent to restructure and increase the focus on saving even more lives. Today in the United States, there are nearly 1 4 million cancer survivors and 400 more lives are being saved from the disease each day than just over a decade ago. In the last twenty years, there has been a 20 percent drop in cancer death rates. These are statistics in the USA, but the eyes of the world are on the ACS
for answers.. to share solutions that have been discovered via some of the world’s top scientists and researchers. I have relayed in Second Life for the past 8 seasons and am looking forward to the new season which is approaching quickly. I was asked just the other day, “So where does the money go? How much is paid to administration?” My answer is that you can learn that and so much more on the website at cancer.org. The American Cancer Society is very
76
transparent and as mentioned earlier, as part of their newly energized effort to do more .. to do better, they are transparent than ever. You can check it out yourselves. But, I will also share a graphic that I downloaded from their site. They do pay administration and staff, yes and the graphic explains that 72% of every dollar received goes towards program services, which includes research, patient services, prevention and detection education while 28% goes to supporting services. Out of that 28%, a much smaller percentage goes to management expenses. I am always of the mind that I get
77
what I pay for. I am proud to Relay to pitch in with an organization that staffs brilliant individuals who responsibly use the money I raise in educating myself and my family on how to live after a cancer diagnosis and more importantly how to prevent getting it in the first place. I am totally okay with the fact that these men and women are paid for a job they’re doing damn well. I believe that this money is paying the best of the best and it’s a great plan, which is confirmed when one takes a look at ACS’ accomplishments during it’s 1 00 year history. They’ve had a hand in nearly every major cancer research breakthrough! Visit cancer.org to learn more. The American Cancer Society
is very transparent about their cancer fighting operation and they make it their mission to save lives.. period. They welcome your calls, especially if you are fighting the disease, yourself. 1 -800-2272345. There are many programs and services offered to those who need it, including Hope Lodge, rides to treatment, information about support services and more. But, back to that graphic.. you’ll notice that 96% of the money that goes IN to the ACS comes from events like the one right here in our virtual community. Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries take part in this global
78
79
phenomenon and raise muchneeded funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Thousands of teams sign up to Relay and the amazing group, which usually consists of a couple HUNDRED teams, in Second Life ranks in the top 20. Take a look at the history and accomplishments of the Relay For Life of Second Life group since it’s beginning in 2005, which I’ll list for you below. After you’ve done that, consider forming a team and signing up to Relay, too. The season kicks off in March and runs through mid July. In July the largest event in Second Life takes place when all the teams come together to walk around a virtual track that encompasses more than 40 sims of amazing builds. It’s a weekend like no other in any world. Team
registration opens in February and stays open for most of the season, so there’s plenty of time. Visit the website at RelayForLifeofSecondlife.org to sign up. Don’t want to form your own team? You can join with the Avi Choice crew who will absolutely be Relaying this year or any one of many existing teams who are always welcoming new members. When you’re doing some SL sightseeing, you should stop in at the American Cancer Society island and visit. There is lots of information about RFL of SL and The American Cancer Society there. Oh one more thing.. that familiar purple kiosk, RFL of SL vendor, gacha or auction vendor? The purple thing that has ACS on it with a white ring? It relays directly to the website and can be verified by clicking on it. Every linden, yep, every last one, paid to it
goes to The American Cancer Society by way of an avatar that is owned by the ACS. So you can be sure that all the money raised in SL is credited as money raised by this community and it’s headed to fight cancer. All of it! http://www.cancer.org/involved/par ticipate/relayforlife/second-life As you read through the history of what an amazing group of avatars have done, since 2004 in Second Life, think about the mega events, dances or fundraisers you’ve been to. Think about the times and places you’ve seen their familiar purple kiosk and dropped a linden or more in it. You are a part of that history, if you put a single linden in and thank you for pitching in on this global effort. We are making a difference.

F I S H I NG I N S E C OND L I F E By Johannes1977 resident
It’s early Saturday morning and you want to go out and catch that elusive bass or take your sailboat out and fish off the coast in the Blake Sea! In Second Life you can definitely catch that elusive bass or take a sailboat out to fish. Second Life has many fishing systems and in this article I will provide an overview of each one and give you tips on how to get started fishing. One early fishing system that was created in Second Life is Neo Realms. I spoke with 6 year Neo Realms fisher, Callum Finesmith about Neo Realms. According to Callum, Neo Realms is “simple” and you do not have to spend money to fish. In fact Neo Realms offers “event” fishing with a free rod and bait. Not all tours are free and you can upgrade your rod and bait to fish in a variety of tours. If you are looking for tours and events for Neo Realms, you can visit their official website: http://fish.neorealms.com/index.php. The website lists gold fishing camps and standard fishing camps, as well as contests. It is quite simple to host Neo Realms on your land. You can purchase the fishing kit from the marketplace or go to the official Neo Realms Headquarters: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Alston/35/83/24. You can also join the Bass Bandit and Bass Bandit Event groups in world if you would like to know about upcoming fishing events.
88
Another similar fishing system to Neo Realms is 7Seas. 7Seas offers you to host contests on your land. Events can be a variety of times but are usually 30 minutes in length. You can have baited or unbaited contests and there is the ability to host tournaments and weekly contests with 7Seas add on products. With 7Seas you must purchase a rod to participate and bait if you are fishing in baited contests. 7Seas fishers are big on customs or custom created fish and other objects, which fishers can catch for free at a variety of areas. Celeste Casenove aka “CC” to the 7Seas world, provided some insight on custom creation: “ I was one of the beta-testers of the 7S cpg along with Migizi north, have been making customs, doing contests, participating in every 7S event for over 6 years. I also helped many of the custom builders learn how to do things with their customs, ones that aren’t even around anymore, used to help other builders, I founded the Cast-Masters Gridwide Fishing Hunt, which hasn’t had a hunt in over a year but used to do them often. That’s about it, still make customs and do contests occasionally”. 7Seas has many old and favorite areas, which include Requiem (a 5 year 7seas sim), Icewater, and Greyhaven and Pala to name a few. 8 year 7Seas fisher Gemma Cleanslate recently provided her remarks on 7Seas: “Some enjoy just fishing for fun. Some love collecting all the fish from 7seas. Some love collecting customs from creators. Some love the weekly contests for prizes. Some love the chase of moving higher on the Hall of Fame. I am amazed at the
89
current high leader on the Hall, my friend, Dallas Russell”. 7Seas Fisher Julielynn Slade offered the following advice to new avatars wanting to get involved with 7Seas: “A friend introduced me to it and I got hooked. It's a good way to meet a lot of people and make friends. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There are many people in the fishing community that will be glad to help get you started”. You can find out more about 7Seas at their official website: http://www.7seasfishing.com/ and you can pick up an official 7Seas fishing rod and 7Seas fishing kit from the marketplace or at the official 7Seas headquarters: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Flotsam%20Bea ch/29/1 08/21 / The next two fishing systems differ from Neo Realms and 7Seas in terms of product offering and costs and the type of fishing game. The first one is Fish Hunt. Fish Hunt allows you to earn lindens for every cast, in other words you do not have to depend on your fishing skills and luck to win a contest as you would in Neo Realms and 7Seas. Fish Hunt does have a free option, where you can obtain a free fishing pole, but if you want to level up quicker and earn lindens faster you would need to upgrade to a paid rod and purchase addons such as a Shubie (a helpful fishing pet) and a variety of worms, which can determine the type of fish you catch, which determines how many lindens you earn. Fish Hunt is part of the Gold Tokens network and you can also hunt for coins while you fish and participate in multipliers, which can double or triple your earnings while fishing. If you are a land owner and wish to purchase a fish hunt buoy on your
land, then you can do so via the marketplace or by visiting the Fish Hunt headquarters: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Business% 20Park/11 5/21 /21 You can find land rankings, available multipliers, and lands which have the official fish hunt viewers on the page for Fish Hunt:
http://www.goldtokens.net/games/fish-hunt
Magic Fishing is a very similar system as Fish Hunt and offers a variety of worms, but just one fishing rod, which you can obtain for free. In fact land owners can also obtain a magic fishing buoy for free. The basis behind Magic Fishing is to offer a free and alternative way for new fishers to earn lindens and to socialize. You can request a buoy from the official Magic Fishing website: http://www.thesecondfarm.com/ You can find the free fishing pole from the marketplace or at the official Magic Fishing Headquarters: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/ Cybrus/1 28/1 22/26 In addition to the fishing systems mentioned in this article, there are several others and there will probably be more. The chosen ones offered support either via the official creator or a thriving community which had longstanding fishers to help you get started. The chosen fishing systems also had active events. Now that you have been taught the basics of Second Life fishing, grab your bait and tackle and check out one of these fishing systems, you may be able to hook that elusive bass or trout for long!
the SS Galaxy by Jill MacKenzie photos by Roman Godde
Welcome aboard the SS Galaxy, the only full size, full scaled, and full featured virtual cruise ship in Second Life. Anchored in the Blake Sea, the SS Galaxy spans 3 sims with more than 8 decks of fun and entertainment. Proudly carrying on the tradition of luxury, glorious and sophisticated floating palaces of the world, the SS Galaxy offers an array of amenities and activities on board, and a variety of staterooms & suites to choose from. She is the largest single build project in Second Life, and the longest in measurement anywhere (650 Meters.) Sometime in 2006, I was invited to a project meeting with Architect Bill Sterling. I sat at the table listening and feeling way out of my league as I listened to the plans to build a massive cruise ship to scale. I decided the skills needed to produce something so massive was far beyond my capabilities, and I left and continued on my own path. Fast forward to April 2007 and there she was the SS Galaxy Queen of the Sagittarian Sea. I wandered the decks in awe completely overwhelmed by the wonder in front of me. The attention to detail was incredible. The entire ship screamed romance at sea with class and sophistication. The more I saw the more excited I became at all the possibilities. I knew then and there I wanted to be a part of this wonder. It took me a few days to track down Bill Stirling but when I did, I told him he needed to hold weddings on the ship, and I was the gal for the
95
job. The rest is history. June 1 6 2007 was the official opening of the SS Galaxy Cruise Ship. It started at 1 2pm with an Inauguration Cocktail Party. A commemorative Inaugural portrait of the ship was given to all the officers and I still have it among some of my most cherished memories in SL. People came in droves to see this incredible build and it was truly the dawn of a new day in SL. The Lindens were in attendance and gave great recognition to Bill Sterling for his innovative and massive build. On board was a mall, casino, functional helicopter for tours, dance areas, theater, art gallery, chapel, restaurants, meeting rooms and cabins to rent in all kinds of price ranges, just to name a few. The ship was staffed 24 hours a day and hospitality was it’s goal. The idea was to bring the luxury of a cruise ship to life in Second Life. This would include food service such as catering and specialty restaurants and shops. There was mini golf and daily exercises in the spa, tours, music events in the formal ballroom and the casual clubs, and eventually a rock climbing wall added to the mix. The Japanese Bamboo Garden Restaurant was a favorite to so many. The Geisha dancers were always popular and the sushi created by Sati Moreau was a highlight for everyone. There was always something to do on board and it was an amazing place to spend time. Once a week there would be a Captains dinner and selected guests would be invited to dine at the Captain's table with him. It was an ongoing joke among the crew that Captain Nova always had 2 portions of dessert, this was well supported by his rather thick mid-section.
July 2007 was an important time in the history of the ship. DBDigital Epsilon, DB to most, came on board as Managing Director and he is still there today. DB has a knack for making things happen and his cool headed, one step at a time approach anchored the Galaxy in longevity and grace. Many have come and gone but Mr Epsilon is the constant. I remember one afternoon as we were making things ready for a big wedding on board some guy lets call Mr X, in a cops uniform came aboard and wanted to be the security for the ship. At first we wondered if Mr X was connected in some way to the upcoming wedding but we soon realized he was not. Mr X wanted the ship to pay him and his team to protect it. After he was assured we had our own effective security team Mr X left. Thirty minutes later a group of about six griefers showed up and start causing trouble. It took a few minutes to handle this as they were scattered all over the three sims, and in the meantime Mr X returned and started shooting the griefers, chasing them off one at a time. DB in his calm manner quickly ejected and banned the griefers and Mr X. Mr X sent a message saying see you DO need my help! ? No sir, it's you that needs the help or something along those lines was the return message. It made for a good laugh at the time. Eventually the manning of the ship 24 hours a day became very difficult so an automated system was added. In late 2008 the economic system in Second took a big dive, so big in fact Second Life has never been the same. The Cruise ship's life span had become uncertain and in Jan 2009 it was decided to close the ship for
good. It was a very sad time for many. The thought of SL without the Galaxy just didn’t seem right at all. A lot of ideas were tossed around about how to close the ship. No one wanted to go quietly! After much deliberation it was decided to sink her. Great planning went into this... if we were going to sink her we were going to make it as realistic as she was. A lot of conversation was happening with builders and scripters. On February 1 3, 2009 an unnamed benefactor stepped up and took over the financing of the Galaxy. The condition was that the benefactor remained anonymous, and to this day that condition has been met. The people of Second Life were and are very grateful to this person.
In 2009 The Blake Sea project was born. This in short, is a mass collective of water sims that are open water and tropical islands. Its a place where you can freely sail all over the sims and thoroughly enjoy the experience. Nov 1 7, 2009 The SS Galaxy made her way to the Blake sea and has been stationed there ever since. It was entirely fitting she should be there and it was a glorious day for the Ship. The SS Galaxy has a different port of call every month, it features other areas around SL and people can learn a lot about what is out there.
DB and all the crew on the SS Galaxy!
The SS Galaxy has withstood time, copy attempts, griefers, financial troubles and just about anything else SL can toss at her. She stands tall and proud. She reminds us that there is still some class in SL and that there is good too! Thank you
