Spring Coverups

Layering Pieces To Keep Your Look Fresh

By Hailee Lucchesi

ONE OF THE BEST parts of living in Colorado is the luxury to experience every season to its fullest. For seasons like winter and summer, the dress code is more straightforward. However, spring can be more precarious. On one hand, you may very well be skiing the Rocky Mountains, or you might be sitting outside on a charming patio enjoying the nearly 300 days of sunshine we get each year. No matter what this spring brings, here’s your guide to layering pieces that will keep you warm when needed—and look great with any wardrobe.

First up, look no further than to the king of American fashion, Mr. Ralph Lauren. His vibrant knitted shawl-collared cardigan made of up of a rich blend of linen, cotton and wool is a closet essential. The geometric motif pattern and carefree shape are perfect for a casual day of shopping or Sunday brunch on a patio. Hot tip: Swap out the self-belt for a woven leather belt for a laid-back look or pair with an avant-garde vintage belt for dinner at your favorite neighborhood joint.

Channel your inner French royalty with this double-breasted wool blazer tailored with sharp shoulders and peaked lapels and, of course, the signature Balmain lion-embossed buttons. Established in 1945 in Paris by Pierre Balmain, this iconic house has long exemplified bold femininity and extravagance, which shows in this artful, shapely piece.

If the perfect trench did ever exist, then the Ecru Leather Trench Coat at ST. JOHN in Cherry Creek is it (see page 60). Lush cream jackets are extremely hard to come by, let alone in leather. Luckily, ST. JOHN created this masterpiece. The ultra-luxe leather paired with the sharp collar and tie belt allow this piece to be worn nonstop.

Get edgy with a look from our new favorite local celebrity. Lita by Ciara from The House of LR&C offers a swanky biker jacket in supple lambskin leather with an oversized fit, wide snap down lapel and belted waistband. It had two angled front pockets and one small, zippered pocket on the breast. Not only can you count on The House for uber cool fashion, its commitment to sustainability and giving back makes this a purchase to feel good about, while you’re looking fab!
