Regardless of where we come from or where we are going, we all want the same thing – we want to belong. It’s in our DNA. It’s part of what it is to be human.

Thriving, connected communities bring people together. In American psychologist Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory, he sites belongingness as part of a major need that motivates human behaviour.

Belonging means we are part of something bigger and more important than ourselves. It helps us to experience companionship and acceptance. This of course, leads to better emotional wellbeing.

Home may be where the heart is but it’s our local community that gives us a true sense of belonging. Communities are the social fabric bringing us together and which create the stage for our lives.

In hard times, our communities stand with us. In good times, communities show us just how good life can be. We speak to homeowners across the country about the communities where they have found true belonging.
