livewell collaborative INTD 2002 INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO II OF SUMMER 2017 PROFESSORS ANN BLACK + JIM POSTELL This studio project focused on workplace design, specifically working to revamp The Live Well Collaborative, a non-profit innovation center based in Cincinnati that is dedicated to researching and developing services for living well for all people. The goal of the project was to invite adaptability and flexibility into the new space because of the collaborative environment it operates from. But, because of their clientele, they also require privacy, acoustically and visually.
So, what is the solution to creating a space that invites both an open collaborative environment and intimate personal space seamlessly?

The kitchen/social hub of the collaborative space is the start of the “ripple. From there, the work areas stem from the hub and differentiate between public and private and in-between. An acoustic panel system was created for studio spaces to bend and conform easily for staff to create two to four studios.

film institute SAID 2001 DESIGN STUDIO I OF FALL 2016 PROFESSOR MEGHAN MINTON The goal of this semester was to focus on problem solving and design intervention, especially with site analysis, building assemblage, and interior spatial design, for a small building. This studio project was focused in Over-the-Rhine Cincinnati, a neighborhood in downtown Cincinnati, where students design a film institute that is to have relation to the buildings, social and historical environment surrounding the designated site.
How do we create a program that caters to students’ safety, education, and emulates OTR’s historical and cultural significance?

Creating a muted-toned material palette for the film institute was a response to the urban and raw environment of OTR. The blackened steel strengthens the look and attitude of its presence. Regarding safety, all private activities are located on the third floor. But it is also inclusive with the residents of the city by providing a public canteen and a gallery room for public events and showings on the first floor.

dc hotel My studio was in charge of redesigning the existing hotel and interior with new function and design. My role specifically was to design an art piece for the lobby by providing all necessary details and preparing the sample to secure the design intent.

Since the hotel is located in DC, we wanted the art piece to depict downtown DC with notable architecture known to DC, such as the White House, Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool, and the Washington Monument. The next step was subtracting some of the shapes and outlines. So, we condensed the line to make more simple geometry . Lastly, we took some of those shapes, duplicated them and sized them down to create dimension to the art piece. The stacking of those added shapes create more depth to the overall look of the art piece.

seminole hard rock hotel I worked on the design phase for the new renovation of the iconic Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The team that I was working with was mostly focused on working with the interior, creating new function and design. My contribution to the design was preparing floor plans, iterating design details, and rendering perspectives and architectural drawings. AutoCAD Illustrator InDesign Photoshop

custom wallcovering
white / stitched ii collection
Working alongside Maya Romanoff, a handcrafted wallcovering company, a colleague and I worked on iterating a custom wallcovering for the casino walls. To start the iteration process, we first went to their showroom to see what wallcoverings to choose, especially ones with a neutral tone. We chose the three to the left and started the iteration process. We wanted to add colored stitches to wallpaper to create rhythm and dimension to the wall. The chosen pantone colors reflect the color palette from the surrounding carpet.

Continuing the concept of rhythm, my colleague created a system of lines that converge and weave on the casino circulation pathways. We wanted to accentuate the rhythm by adding several different types of marble in between the spaces. I used Photoshop to render the casino plan to show the proposed carpeting and marble option that my colleague and I decided on for a presentation.
