We care for our country Budget contributes to protection and preservation of the environment by working according to the ISO14001 environmental standard. It considers environmental issues in all operations within the company. Eco-friendly products are used when cleaning the cars, all waste is recycled and Budget tries to educate foreign visitors about the importance of respecting the nature. Budget in Iceland is purposefully working on the education and training of employees to reduce negative impacts on the environment and treating resources with respect.
Safety while driving Driving in Iceland can be a lot different than driving in your home country. It is very important to drive carefully on Icelandic roads and the conditions of the roads vary by season and weather. If you are planning on driving to the center of the country on F roads, you will be required to have a 4 wheel drive car by law. We want you to be able to enjoy your stay to the fullest and therefore we ask you to take a look and the following road signs which you might not recognize.
Difficult road. Negotiable only by jeeps, i.e. vehicles which are higher then ordinary private cars and have 4-wheel drive.
Blind summits are common in Iceland. Slow down and keep to the right-hand edge of the road.

There are many one-lane bridges in Iceland. Slow down and use caution when driving across them.

Domestic animals are often close to, or even on, country roads. Drivers who hit animals may be required to pay for the damage.
The speed limit in urban areas is normally 50 km per hour. Outside towns, it is 90 km on paved roads and 80 km on gravel roads. Always adjust your speed to the driving conditions.
• The use of hands-free kits is compulsory for mobile phone use whilst driving. • Driving while intoxicated from drug or alcohol use is prohibited. • Headlamps are required to be lit 24 hours a day while the vehicle is in operation. • The use of front and back seat belts is compulsory – they save lives.
Important information Driver‘s license To be able to rent a car, you will need to have a fully valid driver’s license that has been valid for at least one year. The driver’s license must be written in the English alphabet, so if you have special letters you will need a translation from your country’s authorities. The main driver and all additional drivers must have their driver’s license when picking up the car.
Payment The only method of payment we accept is by credit card. Therefore you will need to have a valid credit card when you pick up your rental car. The cardholder must be present and is responsible for the car. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Diners.
Age requirements If you are renting a passenger car, you must be at least 20 years old. To rent a jeep or a van, the minimum age is 23 years old. For our luxury cars, you will need to be at least 25 years old. With Budget there is not an upper age limit.
One way rentals We have an option for one way rentals for an extra fee. That means you can pick up your car in one location and return it at another. The additional fee depends on what locations you are travelling between. Please contact our reservation center for further details.
Free shuttle service We can offer you a free shuttle service from all major hotels and guesthouses in downtown Reykjavik. To schedule a shuttle from your hotel, please contact the reservation center with your reservation number and we will find a good time to pick you up.
Additional insurances and extras Collision Damage Waiver: This is our basic insurance which covers accidental damage caused to the vehicle other than theft or attempted theft. It includes the cost of repairing and replacing it, loss of use and storage costs. This insurance has a self-risk amount that depends on the type of car you are renting. For further information, please contact our reservation center. Super Collision Damage Waiver: This insurance has the same coverage as the Collision Damage Waiver but lowers the self-risk amount. You need to have the Collision Damage Waiver in order to be able to purchase this insurance. Front Windscreen Protection: This insurance covers the front windscreen for any damage. It is recommended as it is quite common to get small stones in the front window. With this insurance, there is no self-risk amount for the front windscreen. Theft Protection: This insurance covers the theft or attempted theft of the vehicle (or parts of it). It has a self-risk amount that depends on the car you are renting. GPS navigation system: The GPS navigation system provides you with the best portable in-car navigation with multiple language choices available. Just type in your destination address and the GPS will take care of the rest, directing you with clear turn-by-turn instructions and detailed maps. Baby and children seats: We want you and your children to feel safe in our cars. Therefore we offer various sizes of children seats for you to rent along with the car. We have 3 sizes available and the prices depend on the size you prefer for your child. Additional driver: If you don’t feel like driving the whole time and want someone else to take over, you can list an extra driver when you pick up your car. You can have as many additional drivers as you want. Each driver must present a valid driver’s license and be listed at the beginning of the rental. My Way is a great option if you want to be in control of your own day tour. To be able to enjoy the My Way tours, you will need to rent a GPS navigation system as well. Voice and data service for mobile phones. O ISK within the NOVA network up to 1.000 min and 500 messages. Pay As You Go Mobile Data Service: Includes: Simcard and 1 GB data usage. Data only service for Mobile phones, iPads, Dongles and other Mobile devices.
