Bridging the Gap between two Nations India and Pakistan This project seeks to weave the edge between India and Pakistan, once known as British India. At the Wagah border, a ceremony known as ‘The Beating Retreat Ceremony’ occurs every day, two hours before the sunset. This ceremony starts with cultural dances and is followed by the soldiers doing their military routine, then lowering the flags from both sides. The road where the ceremony takes place holds a significant part of the history as it is the same road where people walked barefoot and moved to the other country in 1947, when British India was divided into two parts based on religion. Currently, the site lacks a connection to this part of the history. This proposal could create opportunities to mend this broken bond and offer forgiveness and understanding between the two nations, with architectural strategies through spatial transition and learning about one another’s history, spaces like a cafe where the smell of food will bring people together or the library spaces where the removal of book brings transparency and one could see the other side of the country.

Sketches_ Ideation to bring people together
The sloped movement towards the border area brings connectivity. The more you get closer, the better and clear picture with a connection you can get, the farther, the more miscommunication and no transparency
Border Trauma walking experience giving an idea of the people who went through so much trauma that day and how they felt.
Creating spaces under the vertical connection to bring people together and spaces used for different activities. Walking and pivoted walls showing a sense of movement to understand everything goes on even with such unfortunate history
States coming together to show their specialty
Library space, where removal and transparency brings understanding between the two sides
From one side understanding the idea of the whole history and then looking from other side to understand their perspective like getting to know both sides of the coin.
The panels changing at an angle to bring the emotions of suppression and openness together in the experience. Bridging the gap between two Nations | Sketches | 7
Open amphitheater with elevated bike tracks give better access to the site and a central water body to bring calmness and serenity with sitting spaces nearby connecting with nature and playing with shade and shadow by the elevated track giving sitting shadow spaces.

Section towards West
The yellow shade depicts the border where people are more interactive . The border section is trying not to create a wall on the border but to bring nature and sunlight to define the border as a connection where people stand and shine under the border edge. It also depicts the understanding and forgiveness so that when they walk back to their country, they walk with the sense of connection, forgiveness and peace.
Longitudinal Section The yellow line depicts the edge of the border. Where it is a medium of interweaving the connection of two Nations. Bringing hope to forgive and understand and to connect.
Chaupal sitting spaces to bring culture together
Sunlight creating a border on the land.
Block and clear views to look on the other side of the country
Biking tracks to access the site with easy movements.
The border edge where the wall has glass blocks where people can see each other, depicting the removal and transparency creating understanding.

The summer winds, creating stack effect, to create optimise thermal comfort.
Understanding the Context/Site the building is oriented in such a way that green buffer act as a barrier and filters. Third eye bring the concentration and focus to one point and the architecture should mold in the similar way to bring inclination towards it.
Elevated flooring helps in preventing excessive humidity from above ground
Ventilate roof space to minimise temperature differential across bulk ceiling insulation
Connecting Nature and people to bring the connection of peaceful mind.
Materials that can dry quickly and not absorb much water will be preferable
