INVESTING for the future

When I look back on the experiences of the past year, I am reminded of the resolve of the Avon Old Farms community and the deep appreciation for traditions that have been sorely missed over the past few years—traditions and experiences brought to life through the generosity of the alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, faculty, and staff who have ensured Avon remains the preeminent all-boys school in the country. The fiscal success of the school reflects your support of our mission and your belief in the exceptional educational opportunities Avon provides.

As an overview, I am pleased to share that because of our generous community, we met our fiscal-year goal and raised $4.5 million. I am excited about what the future holds for Avon Old Farms; the loyal support of our community will sustain us in the years ahead. Only because of your steadfast support were we able to keep the community safe while continuing to provide superior academic programming, campus enhancements, enriched student experiences, increased financial aid, and support for faculty development.

Gilman W. Ordway ’44, GP’04, ’06, ’10, a dedicated philanthropic supporter of Avon, passed away on May 30. He was the father of former Board of Directors member Kitty Ordway P’04 and a grandparent to three Avonians. At Avon, Gil helped provide cutting-edge science and technology classrooms for Avon students in the building, which now proudly carries his name: the Ordway Science and Technology Center. He also endowed Avon’s environmental science and music appreciation programs. Gil’s passion for art led to the expansion of the Ordway Art Gallery which is now housed in the Brown Student Center. For his work on behalf of Avon, Gil previously received the Alumni Order of Old Farms and the Adams Medal.

I hope to see many of you on campus for Homecoming on November 12, on December 16 for the fall sports competitions, and the Hockey Classic in December as well as many alumni gatherings across the country.

Thank you for your investment in Avon Old Farms and our current and future students.

Aspirando et perseverando,

JIM DETORA P’12 HEAD OF SCHOOL
