The Class of 2022

This is where everything began, where I found myself, my purpose, and my people. It was on this campus where I witnessed the power of brotherhood, and the integrity of a community of mentors and students growing together. This is where I took a leap, to throw myself into the community, to be engaged with everything that is going on, and to become a part of this larger world…

“This is the time when a glorious class of men reaches the terminal of their journeys at this institution and steps separately into the unknown world. I have been so touched by all the well wishes that I’ve received over the past few days. But today, it’s my turn to say thanks. Whether we have seen eye-to-eye or rarely agreed at all, my conversations with you—my peers and mentors— both on and off campus, have enlightened me, inspired me, and shaped me into who I am today. And everyday, I have learned from you. You made me a better scholar, and you made me a better person.

On Sunday, May 29, the Class of 2022 celebrated their graduation from Avon Old Farms School in true Avonian fashion—with the traditional pomp and circumstance loved by generations of Avon men. We were excited that the underclassmen were able to participate this year to properly send off the seniors as they made their way across the stage set up on the Village Green in front of the Head of School’s house.

“After three years as Head of School, I was able to celebrate the class of 2022 on the Village Green under sunny skies for Avon’s 88th Commencement ceremonies,” says Jim Detora. “I have eagerly awaited the traditional pomp and circumstance that happens only when Mother Nature cooperates, and this year did not disappoint. It was a bittersweet moment as the boys collected their diplomas knowing their time at AOF had come to an end, but a bright future awaits. I wish the entire class of 2022 the best as they start college in the fall.”
