Guest of Honour: Hon. Catherine Lamwaka Woman Member of Parliament, Omoro District
Background: Omoro District celebrated the International Women’s day which was organized by Omoro District Local Government. The event took place on March 10, 2018 at the district headquarters in Lalogi sub-county. The celebration was attended by cultural and religious leaders, district councillors, district partners, other organizations and stakeholders. AVSI joined these celebrations due to its role in rehabilitating women and girls in the district.
Theme: “Empowerment of rural women and girls: opportunities and challenges.”
Purpose of the event: • To celebrate the role of women in the development of Uganda. • To advocate for the education of the girl-child and counter any form of abuse and early marriages. SPEAKER REMARKS Christine Anywar, the district councillor urged elders, cultural and religious leaders, organizations, and government to fight poverty and ignorance through education with emphasis on the girl-child.

Women and girls, should address their minds to accept empowerment. Our numbers are great and if we focus on education we will achieve transformation and development.
Hon. Catherine Lamwaka - Member of Parliament. The event was colourful. Lubanga Aye Twero disabled women’s group and Tiikikumi were among the event entertainers. A Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to AVSI Foundation for its contribution and dedication towards the empowerment of girls and women in Omoro District.
