Fashion Show Fundraising Event: March 9, 2018
Background: Embassy of Italy and AVSI Foundation organized a fundraising event which took place on March 9, 2018 at the residence of the Ambassador of Italy in Kampala. “Seeds of Hope: Moving Forward” follows the success of last year’s “Seeds and Threads”. This event aimed to explore opportunities that fashion can bring to Uganda. This year’s fundraising edition hosted more than 13 African designers from Madagascar, Congo, India and Uganda. Among them, three designers showcased children’s clothes. A group of talented local performers also graced the occasion. The event fundraised for the women of Meeting Point International, to help them invest in small viable businesses. Theme: “Seeds of Hope: Moving Forward” fundraising fashion show 2018. Purpose: • To provide visibility to young designers, and create a networking platform for them. • To fundraise for the women of Meeting Point International in support of their small businesses.

The US Ambassador H.E. Deborah Malac, the EU Ambassador H.E. Attilio Pacifici and several ambassadors from EU countries were among the very important guests present at the event. AVSI Foundation and Embassy of Italy thank all supporters of this well achieved goal during a purposeful evening together. AVSI Foundation expresses sincere gratitude to the event sponsors: Amaka, Areg Agrofood, Campari, Casabella, City Tyres-Pirelli, DJ Rachel, Linove Restaurant, Saloon N49 and Strobe Studio, for their contribution toward this event. Meeting Point International received UGX 8,187,200 from ticket sales and donations from the Olympic Committee and Uganda Bikers. The women are now ready to start their poultry business, paper bag production and a tailor’s shop.
