Awareness Talks Presents
AN UNFILTERED DIALOGUE ABOUT RACE Discussion: 01
It's hard to know just what to say and how to say it amidst the social justice issues we are facing. Say this, but don't say that. Then, say that, but don't say this. With so much uncertainty regarding what should and should not be said in order not to offend, we need to become 'comfortable with being uncomfortable'. We need to honestly and openly talk about the reality of race as it pertains to ourselves, our communities and our country. Join Jack and Allié McGuire, Founders of Awareness Ties™, with Moderator and Strategic Advisor, Lisa Bowman, Chief Mojo Officer of Marketing Mojo and former CMO of United Way, as they welcome a panel of diverse and dynamic speakers to speak up and speak out about what has too often been taboo. Questions will be asked, and answers will be explored. With no filter, the discussion begins. Featured Panelists A.J. ANDREWS DR. JACK & ALLIÉ MCGUIRE FOUNDERS & OWNERS AWARENESS TIES
"If we don't talk about it, we can't fix it. And we have to fix it. We're broken." Allié grew up in an all white, rural community as the only 'black girl' who first realized she was different in the third grade when a student called her his slave and demanded that she pick up his mess. Jack, on the other hand, grew up in an all black, urban community as one of the very few 'white boys'. As a result, for lacking pigment, he was regularly chased home from school, bullied on the playground and occasionally threatened at gunpoint. Allié and Jack could not be more different in terms of their childhood. However, the story changes in their adulthood when they found each other after years on different paths. Four weeks after finding each other online, they were married. They left their pasts behind, along with their present careers, to do more than they had ever dared to dream possible. They started a movement with a symbol and a statement to support causes - Awareness Ties. @awarenessties
