We examine our progress holistically, taking into account our performance on a variety of measures which we call the “Six Essential Questions. These questions help us assess whether we are progressing toward achieving our mission and fulfilling the promises we have made to our students. Student demographic data is reported as of 10.15.14 and State data reflects most recently available information.
ONE DAY our nation will know Newark and Camden, New Jersey, as cities of world-class public education.

“I think students stay with us because they know we made a promise to get them to and through college. Students also stay with us because we have fun! The work is always rigorous; however, throughout the day, you will walk into classrooms and see kids laughing, joking with teachers, or making creative projects.”

ABOUT THESE TESTS map: The NWEA MAP is a norm-referenced, computeradaptive assessment that provides comprehensive and reliable estimates of growth. It is administered in grades K-11.
percentile ranking:
These lines give a frame of reference of how our students are performing versus the rest of the country. 25th percentile indicates students are performing in the bottom quarter of the nation on the MAP. 50th percentile means students are performing at the national average, etc.
*KIPP New Jersey’s first elementary school was founded in 2009. Our schools grow one grade at a time. The fourth grade cohort shown above will be the first to matriculate from one of our elementary schools to one of our middle schools. All prior cohorts of 5th graders have come into our schools from other elementary schools, not KIPP elementaries.

“MAP is important because it tells me if I’m really picking up what I’m learning. It helps to show me where I’m at in the scale of national percentile and if I’m on track for high school and college. Also, it helps my teachers know that I’m really learning and picking up new facts.”
