AWEPA Financial Statement 2009
The year 2009 was another dynamic one for AWEPA. The programme strategy that was developed in 2008 progressed further in three sections: first capacity building programmes which were successfully executed in many countries; second the thematic countries; and third parliamentary capacity building in regions that have suffered from recent conflicts. As Europe faced economic stagnation over the course of this year, AWEPA, with the help of continued support from donors, remained on track with its goal to keep Africa high on the agenda of European parliamentarians. In 2009, the income and grants amounted to 7.978.143 EUR. Compared to 2008 (6.140.266), this is an increase of â‚Ź1.837.877 or 30%. The year closed with a surplus of 5.419 EUR. Considering the needs of AWEPA, it was clear that the internal financial reserves should have a more secure amount. Upon request of the AWEPA Executive Committee, a Fundraising Committee was installed to raise sufficient funds to realise this. A big thank you to the dedication of our partners, donors, and staff, with whom AWEPA has been able to successfully stay the course in its mission to promote parliamentary democracy in Africa.
Mr. Theo Kralt Chief Administrative Officer

To the AWEPA Governing Council Members Subject: Annual Financial Statement 2009 Association AWEPA
Dear Governing Council Members, On 14 June 2010, I, the undersigned Ms. K. Bulbulia, discussed the AWEPA Annual Financial Statement 2009 and additional documents with Mr. Theo Kralt CAO at the AWEPA Amsterdam office. The preliminary and internal drawn up Annual Financial Statement 2009 has been audited by Audit Firm Stolwijk. Mr. Lemkes has discussed this concept version with the CAO, the staff of the AWEPA financial administration and Minister of State Ms. Miet Smet, President of AWEPA. Mr. Lemkes of Audit Firm Stolwijk and Mr. Kralt have gone through all the items of the Annual Financial Statement 2009 and they have outlined and replied to all my questions. The year 2009 closed with a surplus of â‚Ź 5.419. Financial reserves for 2009 are approximately â‚Ź540.000. Considering the level of reserves ultimo 2009, a sound financial basis for AWEPA is maintained. Based on the financial information as presented, the consultation meeting with Mr. Kralt and the explanation provided, I, the undersigned, am fully satisfied that all is in order and advise the Governing Council members to agree to the Annual Financial Statement 2009. In my opinion, for this year and 2011 fundraising will continue to be very important. I expect this can be realized in time. Hopefully the financial reserves of AWEPA can be increased.
Kind regards,
K. Bulbulia
