WHO WE ARE • TANSEED International Limited is a local private seed company with indigenous shareholding • The company is headquartered in Morogoro with substations in Mbeya and Iringa regions. • It purchased the Government Seed Company of Tanzania, the “TANSEED” - Tanzania Seed Company Ltd, and thus • Acquired qualified senior management staff and an asset base for seed processing, and • A historic 40 years Tanzania National seed brand name of “TANSEED” for seed marketing in Tanzania. • TANSEED is a well known seed company with great prospects to produce and market seed in Tanzania. • TANSEED is a signatory to the G8 New alliance for Food Security & Nutrition, and • Global Nutrition for Growth-Beating hunger through business and science. i) Rice & Maize adaptive research: TANSEED is engaged in rice and maize adaptive research in partnership with National and International research centres (CIMMYT), and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) This has enabled the company to register 5 unique maize seed varieties TAN 250, TAN 254, TAN 222, TAN H600 and TAN H611 and became the first and single national private seed company to commercialize own seed varieties in Tanzania. ii) Certified Seed Production: TANSEED is engaged in contract seed production with individual & group farmers, and institutions with focus on six important food/cash crops: cereal maize & rice; legume pigeon pea & bean; and oilseeds sesame & sunflower. Iii) Farmer Education and Extension Services TANSEED undertakes seed promotion and training of farmers on the importance of improved seed and good crop management practices using: •
