pick out a puppy. Weaver’s friends had told him of the cutest little beagle pup at the local pet store and the former Staff Sergeant from the U. S. Air Force decided to see for himself.
It would prove to be a day like no
other in the life of the ex-military man and now flight attendant. Little did Kevin Weaver know at the time that he would look into the very eyes of a tiny, forsaken and fragile puppy that would, miraculously, save his life.
While staring at the little dog, something mysterious seemed to overcome Weaver. Somehow, looking at the tiny canine orphan stirred Weaver’s heart. But, Weaver seemed puzzled inside.

The little female beagle pup had already been purchased twice by customers only to be returned to the same pet store each time. Such a questionable resume should have turned Kevin Weaver’s heels to look elsewhere in the store, yet, he couldn’t take his eyes off of her. “I felt sorry for her,” he would later recall. And with strange and mysterious feelings brewing inside of him, Weaver finally gave way to his inner instincts: “I said, ‘She’s mine.’” And, as the third person to claim her – unlike the previous owners – Weaver would remain loyal as her permanent master. Only months old, her name was Belle, but to Weaver she would be known as “Belle Weaver,” because she was now family – and no power under Heaven and Earth – would separate them. They completed each other’s lives.
However, life was never perfect for the former Air Force Staff Sergeant. He constantly struggled with lifelong diabetes. And it seemed to be getting worse with time. And slowly taking its toll on him. Finally, the affliction of diabetes began torturing Weaver with occasional episodes of seizure

when he would be rendered unconscious. It was a terrifying ordeal, to awake from a seizure, on the ground, slowly regaining consciousness and, sometimes, looking up at total strangers trying to help. Then one day, while working as a flight attendant, an acquaintance who frequently flew on his flight-routes, suggested that Weaver give his pet, Belle, specialized training as a medical assistance dog. It seemed an odd request at first, after all, Belle was his pride-and-joy and closest friend, yet he never thought of such an ambitious project for her. That’s when Weaver paused and thought out loud, “Why not?”
Belle seemed to live her little life for her master, Kevin Weaver, always waiting to pounce on him and going uncontrollably happy upon seeing him come home! Now, the young inexperienced dog would be enrolled in a specialized training program to become an official Diabetic Alert service animal. Instinctively, she seemed to know that her training was to save her ‘daddy’ from future diabetic seizures.
Science has long struggled to better understand the instincts dogs seem to have in their love and protective nature to keep their masters safe. The ‘how and why’ of these animals to be able to exhibit such powers and skills still remains within the boundaries of unexplained phenomena. In Belle’s case, the little pup began training classes to become a Diabetic Alert Dog, something that has been successfully taught to countless other service dogs. Belle’s schooling was to detect and ‘sense’ when Kevin Weaver’s blood sugar-level became too low or too high. But how?
Canine research has long shown that as a ‘tracking hound,’ beagles and bloodhounds, along with sporting dogs such as retrievers and pointers, as well as spaniels and German Shepherds, have an even keener sense of smell than most other breeds of dogs. In Belle Weaver’s case, her sense of smell was estimated to be, literally, a thousand times more sensitive than any human being! Amazingly, her training skills included licking Weaver’s nose to smell his breath! Belle was keenly trained to ‘read’ or ‘sense’ his ketone level. According to medical scientist and researcher, Dr. Jennifer Cattet: “While these odors are undetectable to the human nose, the dogs’ olfactory sensory systems (its keen sense of smell) can easily discriminate these vapors from the environment.” Dogs, such as Belle, have more than 220 million ‘olfactory receptors’ in their noses, while humans only have 5 million. Whenever the beagle pup licked her
master’s nostrils and noticed something wrong, she would begin frantically scratching at Weaver’s leg and whining at the same time, warning him about his sugar level before a seizure might develop.
The accuracy level of these alert dogs is astounding! As researchers at the University of Virginia point out, “Early warning detection capabilities of these Diabetic Alert Dogs can tell their masters 20-45 minutes in advance of a diabetic problem that needs correction.” These ‘alerts’ from such trained dogs are, at least, 91.7% accurate – usually higher! Instinctively, Belle knew she was now officially in charge of keeping her master, Kevin Weaver, safe at all possible costs. Such diabetic service dogs are given a variety of methods to warn their masters in advance of low (hypoglycemia) or high (hyperglycemia) blood sugar levels before they become dangerous and a possible seizure develops. The Diabetic Alert Dog’s early detection allows the owner to quickly take the proper steps to get their blood sugar levels back to a normal and safe healthy range. We need to think and live more like dogs. Dogs don't know we don't live forever. Humans, which I think includes you and me, know that we all will eventually die. Dogs don't know that.
So they live for today and love you with all their heart and hope you love them back. If that happens you have (a) one happy dog, and (b) one happy human. Thus is the answer to life.

Despite Belle’s impressive graduation with very high honors as a Diabetic Alert Dog, Weaver – at first – was unaware of the full extent of Belle’s amazing talents. He would soon find out.
Eight months after her training, Kevin Weaver would soon learn a life-saving lesson from his own, expertly-trained dog. His life would delicately dangle in the balance and become fully dependent on his dog, Belle. On February 7, 2006, while at his Orlando, Florida home, Weaver – feeling fine – noticed something radically different in Belle’s behavior.
Weaver recalls the day: “One day, all of a sudden, she started scratching at me and whining at the same time.”

Pack animals, such as canines, inherently think of their masters, simplistically, as their ‘daddy’ or ‘mommy’ and, as such, will often lay their own lives down to save them. Being physically placed outside in the backyard by Weaver, Belle became distraught and knew her trained duties were not being fulfilled. She seemed confused at her master’s actions.
Once she was let back inside the house, it was too late. A 34-year-old Kevin Weaver first felt the symptoms of nausea then, suddenly, collapsed to the kitchen floor, completely unconscious and in extreme danger of slipping into a lifethreatening diabetic coma. Weaver’s roommates would not be expected home for at least another 5 hours after his abrupt fall to unconsciousness. Such a length of time would, most certainly, mean death for Kevin Weaver.
His little beagle pup, which was twice returned as an unwanted orphan from a pet store, now threw herself into action. As anxious and confused as she might become over seeing her fallen master’s body trembling in spasms in a most terrifying seizure-attack on the cold linoleum kitchen floor, Belle, would not disappoint. Her powers of unconditional love would, remarkably, release her pure instincts and allow her formal medical training to take over.

This was the moment of truth. This is what she was trained for.
Belle was left alone with only her training and instincts to guide her. There was no other person or trainer to help, assist, or guide her now, as when she was being tested in her schooling. She was suddenly left alone to try and remember her training as a Diabetic Alert Dog. Belle knew, instinctively, that her master was dying in front of her and that this was no training exercise. But, even Weaver, who lay helplessly in the midst of a dangerous seizure episode, was unaware of the full extent of Belle’s ‘super powers’ which she had mastered. In her graduate medical training program – which she had passed with flying colors – Belle had mastered another critical skill in her arsenal of diabetic tricks. She was, unbelievably, trained to bite down on Weaver’s specially-made cell phone pad, biting hard and holding down with her teeth the number “9” which signals a “911” emergency call!
Belle knew this was no simulated exercise in her specialized medical training class. The 17-pound beagle knew this was the real emergency she had trained so hard to meet. Instincts told her she must not fail – or her master would surely die in front of her.
But first, Belle had to locate Weaver’s cell phone on him, and fast! Every second was crucial now; Weaver was suffering an extreme ‘seizure-event’ and Belle could not

afford to lose precious time. Frantically, she finally located Weaver’s cell phone then, pulling it free, she had to try and remember where, exactly, the number “9” was positioned on the special pad. She did and, true to her training, she then bit down hard on the number “9” and held it down till human voices came to her ears. These voices she now heard on the cell phone were also a ‘cue’ in her Diabetic-Alert training courses. This feedback was positivereinforcement and she knew she was doing the correct sequence of actions. The voices Belle heard were from Emergency 911 dispatchers on the other end. The dispatchers from the Florida Police Station heard a steady volley of dog-barking over the cell phone. Trained in all emergency situations, the dispatchers quickly tried talking, then listening for any human voice to reply. It would not come.
Only the steady, nonstop barking from a solitary, frightened, 3-year-old beagle pup who, once again in her young life, felt strangely alone and abandoned, for the third time in her young life. But, this time was different, as Belle once again bit hard on the number “9” then followed up with steady barking and then yelping as if crying out in pain. The 911 dispatchers, somehow, quickly got the message of

Escondido police detectives received information from federal law enforcement officials regarding a package shipped from Great Britain and intended for an address in Escondido. The package contained approximately 5,700 Xanax pills. Detectives worked in close partnership with special agents from the Food and Drug Office of Criminal Investigations and US Postal Inspection Service to further investigate the shipment. The investigation culminated in a search warrant being served in Escondido on 12-29-17. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of additional Xanax pills and the arrest of two Escondido residents; Christian Wolfkiel (22 years old), and Colin Frank (23 years old). Wolfkiel and Frank were both charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent for sales.
Escondido Police Chief Craig Carter said, “Prescription drug abuse is a significant problem not only in Escondido, but in communities throughout our nation. Our officers and detectives will continue to work closely with community organizations and law enforcement partners to create a drug free Escondido.” Chief Carter encourages area resi-

Carlsbad switched on the last of its new automated license-plate readers last week, and within days the devices led to the discovery of three stolen vehicles and the arrest of three suspects.

Not everyone was happy when the city approved the system, which was budgeted for about $1 million. Some Carlsbad residents and representatives of groups such as the ACLU have said license-plate readers could be misused to violate an individual’s privacy or civil liberties.
Carter said, “when residents remove unused medications from their homes they become far less likely to end up in the hands of children or criminals.” Unused medications can be safely and anonymously disposed of during business hours at Escondido Police and Fire Headquarters building.

Well, here’s a full explanation in terms everyone can understand.
A lot of monkeys lived near a village. They ran loose all over the place.
One day a merchant came to the village to buy these monkeys! He announced that he would buy the monkeys @ $100 each!
The villagers thought that the man was mad. They thought how can somebody buy stray monkeys at $100 each?
Still, some people caught some monkeys and gave them to the merchant and, sure enough, he gave $100 for each monkey!
This news spread like wildfire and people caught monkeys and sold them

The villagers were waiting anxiously for the next announcement. Then the merchant announced that he was going home for a week. But when he returned, he would buy monkeys at $1000 each! He asked his employee to take care of the monkeys he had already bought. He, alone, was taking care of all the monkeys in a cage. The merchant went home.
The villagers were very sad as there were no more monkeys left for them to sell at $1000 each.
Then the employee told them that he would sell some monkeys, privately, @$700 each in secret.
This news spread like fire. Since the merchant would buy monkeys @ $1000 each, there was a $300 profit for each monkey!
The next day, villagers made a queue near the monkey cage! The employee sold all the monkeys at

Taking a knee pays credence peacefully to 1st Amendment
I am a product of military families. My step-father fought in WWII, Korea, and had two tours of duty in Viet Nam. My father-in-law was the Navy Captain of a submarine in WWII. My then husband was a Navy pilot, and on his 4th tour of duty in Viet Nam was shot down and became a POW. My son was a Maryland State Trooper Flight Paramedic and was killed in 2008. All fought for the United States flag and its rights and freedoms guaranteed under our Constitution.

The Citizen watch runs $104 at Walmart though I did spot another Citizen for a mere $70,000.

an unexplained life-threatening situation. Dispatchers quickly ordered emergency first-responders to Kevin Weaver’s residence. It was there where emergency crews found a totally unconscious, nonresponding Kevin Weaver. And also an overly-excited dog jumping all about, seemingly happy to see the ‘intruders.’ Weaver was rushed to hospital emergency care. Stat! “I would have died,” Weaver notes, with his attending physicians all in full agreement. “I would have slipped into a coma and died.” The deadly ordeal had passed. But the heroic dog, Belle, was yet to meet her own fate.
Belle Weaver, the heroic beagle dog that saved her master’s life, would be spotlighted in both national and world news! It was a most astonishing event by a most unlikely hero, and the international press clamored for more details for an astonished and fascinated public. The little dog’s exploits were called “unbelievable” and “phenomenal” by various print and visual media.
Some wire services simply carried the headline caption: “DOG MAKES 911 CELL PHONE CALL TO SAVE OWNER’S LIFE!” Belle was now summoned to the nation’s capitol at Washington, D. C.
and boarded a plane, along with her daddy, Kevin Weaver, to receive a special VITA Wireless Samaritan Award. And the heroic and celebrated pup did not travel in the Cargo Section of the plane which would have separated her from her beloved master. Nope, she stayed with Kevin Weaver on the plane ride, as officials had arranged. After all, this was no ordinary animal that had been plunged into the world’s spotlight. The special award waiting for Belle is presented by the CTIA Wireless Foundation each year: “To honor those who use their wireless phones to save lives, stop crime or help in other emergencies.”
It would be a milestone achievement because Belle would become the first animal ever to receive the VITA Wireless Samaritan Award. Arriving at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, on Monday, June 19, 2006, both Weaver and Belle were taken the short 3 miles to Washington, D. C. where festivities were waiting for the Florida beagle dog. Weaver wept tears of joy as the red, white, and blue ribbon was slipped over her neck with the award-winning medallion dangling for all to see. Even Weaver’s U. S. congressman was there to bestow a special Certificate of Recognition for the little hero dog, that seemed to be enjoying all the attention and fanfare.
Still wearing her well-earned Medical Assistant dog vest, she seemed to love all the adoration and flash bulbs flashing before her little eyes. The little eyes that, despite the distraction all about her, still kept a protective look upon her master. From that fateful day when he almost died, Kevin M. Weaver would learn a most valuable lesson from his dog. As expressed in his own words, “Every time she paws at me like that (and whines), I grab my meter and test myself. She’s never been wrong!”
It had been a long journey from that little Florida pet shop to the Capitol’s footsteps. A most unlikely journey few could have imagined. When little Belle flew roundtrip on an airplane for the first time.
It all brought back a flood of memories for Kevin Weaver. He had long thought of Belle as close family, not just a dog. Often referring to her as “Belle Weaver.” Kevin recalls that after being released from the hospital that fateful day, after Belle Weaver had saved his life, he headed straight to a steakhouse – where both he and his Belle had a memorable feast together. A celebration of renewed friendship and lifesaving love. Says Weaver, at the time, “She loves me and I love her.” Then, pausing a moment with great emotion, he struggles to continue: “She’s my best friend, that’s for sure.”

The once-lonely, unloved, and unwanted orphaned pup, twice returned by previously owners who refused to keep her, now found unconditional love and acceptance. Remarkably, she has blossomed into a genuine miracle-worker. Saluted, adored by a mass public, and decorated at the nation’s capitol. At long last, Belle sits happily on Kevin M. Weaver’s lap, where she rightfully belongs.
Despite Belle’s loyalty, love, and medical assistance, the diabetes that relentlessly ravished Weaver’s body would, eventually, prove to be too much. On October 2, 2010, Kevin M. Weaver of Deltona, Florida, died unexpectedly in his home. He was 39 years old. He is survived by his parents, twin sister, three brothers, and many relatives. And of course, Belle Weaver, his loyal dog that became more family than pet. On October 11, 2010, Weaver’s obituary column included these words: “Kevin was always smiling, and the special bond with Belle was just beautiful. We’ll miss you but I know that you are in a better place.” Belle never left Kevin Weaver’s side,

even in later years when they worked together at Disney World at Orlando, Florida. Disney coworker, Joan Brake, remembers, “We at Port Orleans so enjoyed Kevin and Belle working here. Kevin and Belle are missed.”
Animal behaviorists and trainers know that dogs love their masters so deeply, that the dogs often feel abandoned or left behind when their owner dies. Canine research scientists reveal: “That’s how these dogs see and feel about their companions. They don’t understand why they are abandoned. They don’t comprehend why he does not come back to get her.” After her master’s death, little Belle was surrounded by Kevin’s surviving loving, caring family. But to the specially-trained and heroic Diabetic Alert Dog, Belle deeply sensed Kevin Weaver was missing and she, once again, instinctively felt abandoned, as when she was a tiny puppy. Yes, she was surrounded by family members. But, her master was gone.
As with humans, canines also feel sadness, pain, depression, and separation anxiety. Though showered with love and attention, Belle would – at intervals – simply choose to lay herself down on the cold kitchen linoleum floor, her eyes sometimes droopy, perhaps sad. She often would lay motionless, her eyes not focused on any particular object . . . as if she were lost. As if she were somewhere else. Perhaps, dreaming of her daddy, Kevin M. Weaver.

California’s new law legalizing the use of recreational marijuana went into effect January 1st. Hopefully, the negative impacts on highway safety experienced in some other states with similar laws will not be repeated here.
Using marijuana while driving remains strictly prohibited in California. The law prohibits smoking or ingesting marijuana or marijuana products while driving or riding as a passenger in a vehicle. Marijuana being carried in an automobile must be in a sealed container, or locked in the trunk. And obviously, impaired driving caused by drugs or alcohol is illegal, and any accidents resulting from impaired driving that involve death, injury or property damage will result in severe legal penalties. According to data compiled by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the state of Colorado, which legalized recreational marijuana use in 2012, experienced a 40 percent increase in the number of drivers involved in fatal crashes who tested positive for marijuana use from 2013 to 2016. Despite a public awareness campaign by the Colorado Department of Transportation,
55% of Colorado’s marijuana users reported they believed it was safe to drive while high. Among people who reported using marijuana in the last 30 days, half said they had driven high. And in Washington State, which also legalized marijuana in 2012, the AAA reported the number of drivers involved in fatal crashes who recently used marijuana more than doubled between 2013/14. I expect clarifying legislation to be passed this year to help law enforcement deal with drugged driving and will support giving law enforcement the necessary tools to address this serious issue. We take our lives and the safety of our loved ones in our hands every time we get behind the wheel. We should all agree that impaired driving, whatever the cause, will not be tolerated. From Football to War Hero Back to Football Then Sportscasting
One of America’s most famous athletes turned sportscaster was Tom Harmon – and, along the way he was a fighter pilot for the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Thomas Dudley Harmon was born Sept. 28, 1919. He was sometimes known by the nickname "Old 98,” which was the number on his jersey at the University of Michigan and later the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams. Harmon grew up in Gary, Indiana, and played halfback for the University of Michigan from 1938 to 1940. He led the nation in scoring and was a consensus All-American in both 1939 and 1940. He won the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and the Associated Press Athlete of the Year award in 1940. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954.
Harmon won the Indiana state championship both in the 100-yard dash and 220-yard low hurdles and won the national interscholastic scoring championship in football with 150 points. He ran the 100-yard dash in 9.9 seconds (half a second slower than Jesse Owens' world record) and 220-yard low hurdles in 22.6 seconds. He also was a star basketball player and threw two no-hitters as a pitcher in AAU baseball.

His career average of 9.9 points per game stood as an NCAA record for 10 seasons. During World War II, Harmon served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In April 1943, he was the sole survivor of the crash of a bomber he piloted in South America en route to North Africa. Six months later, while flying a P-38 fighter, he was shot down in a dogfight with Japanese near Kiukiang in China. Harmon was forced to bail out into Japanese-occupied China, but not before shooting down two Japanese fighters. He was later rescued by antiJapanese Chinese guerrillas. Harmon was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for his actions with the 449th Fighter Squadron. After the war, Harmon played two seasons of professional football for the Los Angeles Rams and later pursued a career in sports broadcasting. He was the play-by-play announcer for the first televised Rose Bowl in the late 1940s and worked for CBS from 1950 to 1962, and then moved to the ABC radio network. Harmon worked as the sports anchor on KTLA-TV, Los Angeles from 1958 to 1964. He also handled play-by-play responsibility on broadcasts of UCLA football games in the 1960s and 1970s.
In August 1944, Harmon was married to movie actress and model Elyse Knox in a ceremony at the University of Michigan. Harmon saved his silk parachute from the crash of his P-38, and it was used as the material for his wife's wedding dress. The couple had three children: daughter Kristin born in 1945, (who married recording artist Rick Nelson); Kelly, who was born in 1948, and became an interior decorator; Mark, born in 1951, who today is a major television star (NCIS), married to actress Pam Daubner. Like his Dad, Mark was a standout football player for UCLA before becoming an actor.
On March 15, 1990, Tom Harmon suffered a heart attack after winning a golf tournament at Bel Air Country Club. Harmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954, the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1962, the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1974, and the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor (as one of five inaugural inductees) in 1978. In 2007, Harmon was ranked 16th on ESPN's Top 25 Players in the College Football list. Harmon also was ranked fifth on the Big Ten Network's program "Big 10 Icons,” honoring the greatest athletes in the Big 10 Conference's history. Few American athletes have won and been honored more than Tom Harmon. Few athletes have accomplished such an array of achievements in sports along with decorated military service. Oceanside Unit of League of Women Voters to Present Documentary on Homelessness – On Saturday, January 27th, at the Oceanside Civic Library, 330 No. Coast Hwy, the Oceanside Unit of League of Women Voters North County will present a free public event providing insight into homelessness. Attendees will watch a screening of a sixty minute documentary film, “Tony- The Movie.” When Tony ends up homeless after losing his job as a waiter in San Diego, he is faced with the daily struggles of life on the streets. His search for housing begins, but then turns into a quest for solutions to homelessness, not just for himself, but for thousands people living on the streets across the county. The investigation takes him to the top levels of government locally, but also to regions across the country where progress is being made. What do communities do to significantly reduce homelessness? What is happening in San Diego? And does Tony find housing? The Director, Dennis Stein, and actor, Tony Rodriguez, will be in attendance. There will be time for Q&A and discussion following the showing of the documentary. Doors open at 12:30pm. Seating is limited to the first 160 people.

Betty Crocker Speaks Again at Local History Museum - A rare vintage recording of "The Betty Crocker Cooking School of the Air," the nation's first cooking show, has returned to the Valley Center History Museum where it is part of a major permanent exhibition about the famous cooking icon. Museum president Earl Brown said the recording and its playback device, a popular attraction among visitors, was removed several months ago for restoration. He estimated that it has been played thousands of times since it was placed on public exhibit in 2008. Archivists at General Mills, which owns the Betty Crocker name, said it is believed to be the only known recording of the show which made its debut in 1924 with Agnes White of Valley Center as the voice of the original Betty Crocker. The recording at the History Museum is from a program broadcast on NBC in 1936. Along with the rare radio recording, the museum has a vast collection of photos, kitchen implements, hand-written recipes and radio scripts and other personal memorabilia once owned by the woman who took on the persona of Betty Crocker. A home economist, Agnes White was hired in the early 1920s by the company that made Gold Medal Flour. She was one of several women who created and tested recipes, wrote cookbooks, and responded to baking inquiries. In 1924, the fictional Betty Crocker acquired a voice with the debut of the radio program and Agnes was chosen to portray Betty. A copy of the original radio script, typed by Agnes, is on exhibit at the local museum. Agnes White lived and cooked at her historic Victorian home on Miller Road in Valley Center for nearly 40

Between Christmas and the New Year, I traveled to Northern Wisconsin. Although I have spent a considerable amount of time in various Wisconsin seasons over the years, I have never been so miserably cold in my life. As it turns out, I had the lovely experience of the coldest winter week in decades. For days on end, the bitter cold lingered in from lows in
years. She built a demonstration kitchen where she prepared recipes and worked as a nutrition consultant until her death in 1979 at age 84. She is buried in Valley Center Cemetery. I discovered several things about living in extreme cold. First, it takes five layers of clothing to keep from freezing between the door and the car. Second, there is no need for insulated grocery bags to keep food cold between the store and the house. Third, the cost of living in California is worth the traffic, two jobs and small yards. Of course we have a
housing shortage – anyone who visits San Diego in the winter will want to move here. The supply of sunshine drives the demand for residency. Whatever the cost of perfect weather, it is absolutely worth it. On the bright side, since I spent most of my week indoors, I rediscovered the fun of working on a puzzle.

Whenever you return a borrowed pie pan, make sure it's got a warm pie in it. Invite lots of folks to supper. You can always add more water to the soup. There's no such thing as woman's work on a farm. There's just work. Make home a happy place for the children. Everybody returns to their happy place. Always keep a small light on in the kitchen window at night. If your man gets his truck stuck in the field, don't go in after him. Throw him a rope and pull him out with the tractor. Keep the kerosene lamp away from the the milk cow's leg. It's a whole lot easier to get breakfast from a chicken than a pig. Always pat the chickens when you take their eggs. It's easy to clean an empty house, but hard to live in one. All children spill milk. Learn to smile and wipe it up. Homemade's always better'n store bought. A tongue's like a knife. The sharper it is the deeper it cuts. A good neighbor always knows when to visit and when to leave. A city dog wants to run out the door, but a country dog stays on the porch 'cause he's not fenced-in. Always light birthday candles from the middle outward. Nothin' gets the frustrations out better'n splittn' wood. The longer dress hem, the more trusting the husband. Enjoy doing your children's laundry. Some day they'll be gone. You'll never catch a runnin' chicken

This becomes routine until the two enter again. "The usual?" asks the waitress. "No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad," says the man. "Same," says the ostrich.

Both outdoor and indoor projects are available, including arts and working with kids and adults. Families are welcome to serve together; bring a friend or come meet new ones! This day of service is a collaboration of North County San Diego NAACP and MiraCosta College Service Learning Center. All projects will finish around or before 12:30. Let’s spend the day working to make Oceanside even greater!

I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, "Unbutton your shirt. " So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, "That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me," and she processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, "You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability too. " And then the fight started...

So far nobody has stepped up to say we’re not. The new products we sell are Acer and ASUS portables along with our own custom built desktop PC workstations. We also sell used and refurbished portable and desktop PCs, mostly Dell, HP and Lenovo that come from large government, corporate and academic institutions as part of their three to five year replacement cycles. While the sale of PCs and peripheral products are important, most of our efforts these days are devoted to the service, repair, and upgrade of existing home and business PCs. Over the years computer maintenance and service has become increasingly important as the average useful life of PCs has expanded from a matter of months in the 1990’s to today’s eight to ten years. 90% of our work is done here in-shop with customers bringing their PCs to us. Some work, like home and business network set-up, security systems and Internet connections, must be done on-site. For these jobs we have onsite services. While there isn’t that much difference in the labor rates between in-shop and on-site

service, the in-shop is usually more cost effective because the technicians are able to split their labor among several work orders. For example, reformatting a hard drive, reinstalling windows and downloading drivers and updates may take up to eighteen hours, but most of that time is “run time” and does not require a tech’s attention. Inshop the labor charge would be less than two hours. On-site the tech would be on the clock for the full eighteen hrs. The cost would be prohibitive and we won’t do it. Big Box computer tech services like “Geek Squad” are famous for outrageous onsite charges often dwarfing the
value of the computer.

The decision to fix it, trade it in or scrap it is yours. We give you all the information you need to make the right decision.
