In almost all of these cases, ingestion of excessive amounts of almost any opioids will cause some degree of brain damage," said Lieutenant Suzanne Baeder, Head of the Professional Standards Bureau, current Public Information Officer, and long time supervisor of the narcotics unit of the Escondido Police Department. "20 years ago we seldom heard of fentanyl. It was an east coast thing and even then it was a minor blip on the narcotics radar watch. Today, it has become pervasive. It's everywhere, all across the nation, including right here in Escondido."
"The fentanyl problem affects all ages, from 8 to 65 and beyond," said Officer Teyechea. "We see victims from fine, outstanding families, (but) 90% of what we see are within the homeless community . . but even there, the story usually is the victim had a job, tried Fentanyl, became addicted, lost his job, and then became homeless. But the addiction followed him and, often, winds up killing him."
"We see a lot of heartbreaking scenes," said Lt. Baeder. "I remember a case where we responded and found a Thanksgiving Meal on the table all set for the holiday . . . and found two people who had both overdosed. It turns out they thought they were doing cocaine but it had been laced with fentanyl and they

He was sick of the world, of Covid19, Trump, Russian belligerence, China, global warming, racial tensions, and the rest of the disturbing stories that occupy media headlines. Brad drove his car into his garage and then sealed every doorway and window as best he could. He got back into his car and wound down all the windows, selected his favorite radio station, started the car and revved it to a slow idle.
Two days later, a worried neighbor peered through his garage window and saw him in the car. She notified the emergency services and they broke in, pulling Brad from the car.
A little sip of water and, surprisingly, he was in perfect condition, but his Tesla had a dead battery.

OD'd. Family members found them 12 hours later. Too late for Narcam. Neither survived. That was a tough one to see . . . they all are."
"On another case we responded to, a mother with a young toddler went into the bathroom while the toddler was sleeping and snorted something (presumably fentanyl) from a pill. The father of the child came to pick up the child and found the mother, dead, on the bathroom floor. Again, too late for Narcam."
"They all hit you hard in the gut. As members of law enforcement we are trained to 'compartmentalize' different cases . . . and we build walls, one for each type of case, that are supposed to protect us from getting involved emotionally. But a lot of these cases never leave you. Even after my shift is over and I return home . . . and try to regain a normal form of life . . . the memories will often come flooding back." Officer Teyechea: "It hits me the same way. I have two children, ages 6 and 3, and I think of them and . . well, maybe I've just returned from responding to two or three Fentanyl calls, and I see what the results of fentanyl are . . . and those memories cause me to worry a great deal about the future my kids might be facing."
Lt. Baeder: "We sometimes will respond to 10 calls a day that are fentanyl related. Other days we might have two . . . but it's almost certain a day will not go by that we

San Diego County Medical Examiner Steven Campman, MD, reports 976 deaths in 2021 attributed to opioid overdose . . a 200% increase since 2016. Of those 976 deaths 462, or 47% were attributed to fentanyl. An even more deadly mix was that of fentanyl mixed with methamphetamine . . a 2300% increase since 2016!
Those are the two things that tell your brain — which controls your lungs — that you need to breathe. If the opioid is bound to those receptors, it cannot tell if the oxygen is low, or the carbon dioxide is too high and you eventually stop breathing and die.

At Moscow airport, a customs inspector found a statue of Lenin in his luggage and asked, "What is this?"
"Wrong question, comrade” replied Jacob. “You should have asked, Who is this? This is Comrade Lenin. He laid the foundations of Socialism and created future prosperity for the Russian people. I am taking it with me as a memory of our great hero."

Here is how fentanyl kills you, or your loved one: When it binds to the endorphin-releasing receptors, it can mess them up. Because of that, your body cannot respond to low levels of oxygen or high levels of carbon dioxide.
What is Fentanyl?
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times stronger than morphine. Pharmaceutical fentanyl was developed for pain management treatment of cancer patients, applied in a patch on the skin. Because of its powerful opioid properties, fentanyl is also diverted for abuse. How Is Fentanyl Taken?

The Israeli official sent him on his way. In his new home in Tel Aviv, Jacob placed the statue on a table. The following evening, he invited friends and relatives to dinner.
Spotting the statue, one of his cousins asked, "Who is this?" "Wrong question. You should have asked, what is this? This is five kilograms of solid gold that I managed to bring with me from Russia without having to pay any customs duty or tax."
