If we journalists and columnists would play fair and just step aside, for one moment, and let the majority of people speak their own true minds – unfiltered and uncensored -- well, we all might just learn something new from time-to-time. After all, if true democratic ideals are allowed to prevail, then we must allow the American people their freedom of speech regarding political correctness (PC).

And therein, lies the rub.

POLITICAL “CORRECTNESS” CAN SUPRESS “FREEDOM OF SPEECH.”

Freedom of Speech and Political Correctness (or Political “Incorrectness”) have found themselves to be strange bedfellows. In other words, one’s freedom of speech to openly voice opinions may not, in reality, be acceptable – but even punishable – under the guidelines of political correctness today.

So say the majority of Americans. In steadily increasing numbers.

In a recent survey across America, 72% of Americans today agree that: “Political correctness has silenced discussions society needs to have.”

Out of that lion’s share of 72%, a hefty 58% of those Americans went so far as to state that they even have: “Political views that they are now even afraid to share.”

Especially, in the workplace. Where PC reprisals can separate you from your job, livelihood, including essential source of income.

high as 80% in agreement that PC is dangerously out of control. And, as one study reveals: “What drives ‘White silence’ is fear of speaking out.”

in fear of not abiding by political correctness.”

The Washington Times reported: “66% of All Americans Now Fear Speaking Their Minds in a Politically Correct Nation.” Today, as we plunge deeper into summer of 2020, that majority of opinion has spiked even higher.

When push comes to shove, most Americans choose their right to free speech over political correctness. In a 2020 U. S. poll, a shocking 80% of all Americans surveyed, openly and strongly stated that they: “Believe that free speech is more important than political correctness today.”

Political correctness covers a wide spectrum of arenas: politics, religion, gender, gay rights, women’s rights, racial equality, physical and mental disabilities, to name just a few examples.

WHEN THE UNTHINKABLE BECAME REALITY.

Pro or con, anti-racism protests rocking the United States, arbitrarily toppling monuments, has now shifted its spotlight agenda to icons of U. S. history, long considered untouchable: Our Founding Fathers.

(as with Mount Rushmore), as well as renaming U. S. states and locales (such as Washington state and Washington, D. C), along with all streets, public parks, schools, all of which bear their names and images.

Regardless of one’s position or viewpoint on this combustible topic – the unthinkable has become a sudden reality in 2020.

WILL PC SOMEDAY VIEW THE “COLOR” WHITE AS OFFENSIVE IN ANY WAY?

Such a question as this may seem bizarre, even unrealistic to even ask: “Will political correctness ever go to the extreme as stating that the ‘color’ white is offensive, even just the word ‘white’ – of and by itself -- as a descriptive adjective or even a noun?”

While many readers may call this genre of questioning “unthinkable” and, perhaps, unwarranted to even be asked – should think again.

L’OREAL TO REMOVE WORDS “WHITE” & “FAIR & LOVELY” AS BEING OFFENSIVE.

Just this summer, on June 19, 2020, the world’s largest cosmetic and beauty company, officially announced that it will remove words like “white” and “whitening” -- as well as its “Fair & Lovely” line of cosmetics - from all of its skin-covering products.

•••• How do you become a member of the choir?

You go to church looking for the AA meeting and you go in the choir room by mistake and they’re so glad to see you, you don’t dare leave.

•••• The lawyer is standing at the gate to Heaven and St. Peter is listing his sins: 1) Defending a large corporation in a pollution suit where he knew they were guilty.

2) Defending an obviously guilty murderer because the fee was high.

3) Overcharging fees to many clients.

4) Prosecuting an innocent woman because a scapegoat was needed in a controversial case. And the list goes on for quite awhile.

The lawyer objects and begins to argue his case. He admits all these things, but argues, "Wait, I've done some charity in my life also."

St. Peter looks in his book and says,"Yes, I see. Once you gave a dime to a panhandler and once you gave an extra nickel to the shoeshine boy, correct?"

The giant French-based corporation stated in a press release: “We stand in solidarity with the Black community (against) injustice of any kind.”

Whether this is truly right or wrong is something we Americans (as a whole) are going to have to decide.

Whatever one’s position, many are contesting that PC has gone haywire, and the polls and surveys across America are voicing fear that radical PC is fast becoming unstoppable.

OTHER COSMETIC CORPORATIONS FOLLOW SUIT.

In sync with L’Oreal, several other cosmetic juggernauts, such as Johnson & Johnson, stated that they will cease marketing some Neutrogena and Clean and Clear products which advertise “dark spot removers” in Asia and the Middle East. Such cosmetic companies have been heavily criticized recently for its skin-lightening product names after the global rise of the Black Lives Matter movement and the sociopolitically-charged zeitgeist in its wake. Repeated polls expressing concern of radical PC changes is not germane to America -- it’s trending worldwide.

In a press release statement, the official reason given was that they are firmly: “Committed to celebrating all skin tones.” Ostensibly, not wishing to racially or ethnically offend anyone by using the word “fair,” as an example.

NEW YORK CITY LAW MAKES TERM “ILLEGAL ALIEN” UNLAWFUL.

Words and phrases that were once considered objective and accurate descriptions of a crime or of criminal status regarding transgressing U. S. laws, are now beginning to change, due to political correctness. Or as some say, radical political “incorrectness.”

On May 29, 2020, New York City became the first major U. S. city to prohibit the use of the terms “alien” and “illegal” in local laws, rules, and documents, from law enforcement.

From now on, the term will be “non citizen.”

In a formal statement, NYC Council speaker, Corey Johnson, said: “These words (“alien” and “illegal”) are outdated and loaded words

"Good," said the man. "Give me a beer, and I'll have a lawyer for my 'gator."

•••• A hindu, a rabbi, and a lawyer are traveling together and need to stop for the night. So they stop at the next farmhouse, and find lodging, with the qualification that the house is only big enough for two of them, and one will have to sleep in the barn. So the hindu volunteers and goes out to sleep in the barn while the lawyer and rabbi sleep in the house.

A few minutes later, however, the lawyer and rabbi hear a knock on the door, and opening it, find the hindu who protests "There is a cow in the barn. Surely you can't expect me to sleep with cattle."

So the rabbi and the lawyer agree that perhaps the rabbi should trade places with the hindu, and the rabbi goes out.

Within a short time, the hindu and the lawyer are getting ready to go to sleep, when again there is a knock on the door. Opening the door they find the rabbi protesting, "There is a pig in the barn. Surely you can't expect me to sleep with a pig!"

years after the death of the frontiersman-lawman-outlaw, the words alone immediately bring to mind one of the Old West's most colorful characters. It is known that Earp lived in San Diego County longer than anyplace else, and that he was related to a woman in Valley Center who was as colorful a character as he was, commonly used coarse language, and was often seen around town toting a shotgun.

Myths & Legends, from the Valley Center History Museum Did Wyatt Earp ever live here?

Historians and docents at the Valley Center History Museum regularly receive requests for information on celebrities, historic figures and legendary men and women who may have had a connection to the area, but may or may not have actually lived in the community. Here in installment number 17 of the weekly question-and-answer series on items of historic interest is the true story of three names that regularly come from readers who ask "did he/she really live here?": Wyatt Earp, actress Mae West and bandit Joaquin Murieta (the inspiration for Zorro).

used to dehumanize the people they describe. It’s time to retire them.”

Council member, Francisco Moya, further added: “Words matter. The language we choose to use has power and consequences.”

The newly-passed NYC Council vote outlines that such usage (“illegal alien”) tends to demean, humiliate, or harass a person. The formal guidelines also make it illegal to harass or discriminate against: “Someone for the use of another language or their limited English proficiency, and threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on a person based on a discriminatory motive.”

For many observers, once again – the unthinkable has now become reality, in the name of political correctness.

CAN THE WORD “AMERICAN” BE OFFENSIVE & THEREFORE ELIMINATED?

Whatever one’s viewpoint, pro or con, PC is even thriving across our American college and university campuses.

For example, the University of New Hampshire issued a “University Language Guide,” which stated that the word “American” was “problematic.”

Why?

McNally who built a large adobe home on a 310-acre ranch about 1920 on a street that today bears her name. In 2004, staff from the Valley Center Historical Society visited the home and discovered a photo of Earp, apparently taken in the house about three years before he died. The photo had been discovered in 1968, one year after Peggy's death.

The exact relationship between Earp and McNally has never been firmly established, but it is believed that she was the granddaughter of Adelia Earp, Wyatt's sister. Two ranchers in Valley Center and Pauma Valley told the local Historical Society they knew Peggy and her family relationship with Earp. Archival data indicates that she referred to him as her uncle.

McNally died at age 70 and is buried in Pala.

There are many tales of Earp's life, making it difficult to separate fact from fiction, but it is known that he was related to Elizabeth (Peggy)

Actress and sassy sex symbol Mae West, known for her use of bawdy double entendres in the early days of film, purchased a 100-acre property on MacTan Road in Valley Center in the early 1940s, built a small home, and planted peaches.

Although the home was occupied primarily by family members, West did visit on occasion. One photo at the History Museum shows her and Western actor Randolph Scott picking peaches. He lived on Woods Valley Road and had a major cattle ranch. The actress's 100-acre parcel has since been subdivided and today holds five homes, one of which is believed to be her onetime

What seems alarming to many, is the speed and ease at which political correctness has spread and successfully made radical changes. Not just in America, but around the world.

THE LEGACY OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.

The concept of political correctness has been around forever. It just had different names and phraseology, such as ‘polite speech’ within a ‘polite society’ and having a ‘civil tongue.’

Today, political correctness is broadly defined as: “Language, behavior, and other measures, which do not offend, insult, or discriminate against any specific group of people in society.”

Celebrated American film and stage actor, Hal Holbrook, has been around long enough to have formulated strong feelings and memories about political correctness early on: “I hate it. It causes us to lie silently instead of saying what we think.”

He is not alone.

English Internationally-popular movie actor, comedian, and film producer, John Cleese, has stated his unequivocal opinion of political correctness: “It started as a half-way decent idea and then it goes completely wrong and is taken ad absurdum.”

For many, Cleese certainly makes a Politically-correct valid point. guidelines have caused many to walk on egg shells as it continues to climb upward, reaching new political heights and seats of power.

For example, the European Parliament was no newcomer to PC when it introduced new proposals to actually outlaw usage of any titles which openly and arbitrarily identify a woman’s marital status, without her permission, such as ‘Miss’ and ‘Mrs.’ It also means that the French and ‘Madame’ words ‘Mademoiselle,’ the German ‘Frau’ and ‘Fraulein,’ and the Spanish ‘Senora’ and ‘Senorita’ would, likewise, be banned from usage among

Joaquin Murieta, known in his day as the "Mexican Robin Hood," was one of the most feared and hunted outlaws in early California history.

A one-time gold miner, he led a gang whose robberies and murders terrorized the state for years. Press coverage of his crimes turned him into a celebrity bandit.

Shortly before Murieta was shot and killed by state rangers in 1853, it was discovered that he and his henchmen had set up camp and were hiding in Valley Center in Moosa Canyon off Old Castle Road.

The renowned bandit remained a celebrity long after his death. His pickled head was placed in a jar and taken on public tour, often at local fairs where it cost one dollar to view his head. Murieta was said to have inspired the fictional character Zorro.

Murieta was the subject of the 1969 Fox film, "Desperate Mission," and a 1975 Spanish-language film, "Life and Death of Joaquin Murieta."

The Valley Center History Museum, which remains closed due to the pandemic, is accepting inquiries about local history by mail, email and telephone. Because of the volume of inquiries, all questions cannot be answered in this column, but a personal response is provided by a museum volunteer.

Meanwhile, in Great Britain, the BBC television network has officially dropped the use of the terms ‘Before Christ’ (BC) and ‘Anno Domini (AD) on one of their programs and decided that the new replacement terms ‘Before Common Era’ and ‘Common Era’ are more appropriate. And also less offensive to the various atheist groups which had made orchestrated complaints.

Some major stores across the United States have already supplanted “Merry Christmas” with the more generic “Happy Holidays” so as to not offend any opposing religious or non-religious beliefs.

Repercussions from political correctness have become virtually impossible to ignore, today. Unless one has been in a long-induced coma, or have elongated bouts of amnesia, many civil war monuments – as well as U. S. Presidents – have come under the scythe of condemnation. Mount Rushmore and the renaming of sports teams are hot, push-button topics, that have caused a measure of schism and heated debate within our diverse nation.

The Paper Apparent Murder/Suicide in Carlsbad

Police investigate elderly couple found deceased in their car.

On August 18 at 12:12 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a call from a family member of a man who told him he had just killed his wife and that he was going to commit suicide.

The investigation showed the man was traveling around the southern portion of Carlsbad in his car.

Officers followed tracking details around the area and located the vehicle on Estrella de Mar. Inside the vehicle, officers found a deceased 89-year-old female in the passenger seat and a deceased 92year-old male in the driver’s seat.

The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing. There is no further information at this time.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identities.

San Diego County Removed from State Monitoring List

Restrictions remain for San Diego County businesses but at least one major hurdle has been passed. The County metrics improved to a point where the state has removed the county from the state’s “watch list,’ where we were being monitored to

On Monday, a friend played the Disney Lake Buena Vista course. As usual the starters matched him with three other players. After a few holes they began to get to know each other a bit. This is the rest of what he reports.

One fellow was rather young and had his wife riding along in the golf cart with him. I noticed that his golf bag had his name on it and after closer inspection it also said "wounded war veterans."

When I had my first chance to chat with him I asked him about the bag. His response was simply that it was a gift. I

Oceanside Voters to Decide on Cannabis Tax

If Oceanside voters approve in this November’s election the s cannabis industry may finally see a local tax on its operations by January.

The Oceanside City Council approved an ordinance that would establish a tax on cannabis business activity if approved by voters during the Nov. 3 election. Measure M would establish a tax range to not exceed 6% of gross revenues for cannabis retailers, manufacturers and distributors, and a tax range not to exceed 3.5% of gross revenues for cultivators.

We had a nice round and as we became a bit more familiar I asked him about the brand new set of Ping woods and irons he was playing. Some looked like they had never been hit. His response was simple.

He said that this round was the first full round he had played with these clubs. Later in the round he told me the following.

As part of the discharge process from the rehabilitation hospital, Ping comes in and provides three days of golf instruction, followed by club fitting.

Upon discharge from the hospital, Ping gives each of the discharged veterans, generally about 40 soldiers, a brand new set of custom fitted clubs along with the impressive golf bags.

The tax would generate almost $1,900,000 annually according to city staff, who worked with consulting group HdL Companies to come up with an analysis of a potential cannabis business tax.

The state’s legal cannabis industry continues to struggle primarily due to the illegal cannabis market that still exists, but also largely because of the high taxes imposed by the state on a legal industry.

The overall goal for the industry is to not exceed an overall tax rate of 30% when combining local and state tax rates. The state already imposes tax rates more than 25%, which leaves “very little margins for cities to work with to ensure a competitive local market.”

The proposed tax range for Oceanside’s cannabis industry is considerably lower than the rates of other cities in the region have established. Vista currently has a 7% tax rate for retail cannabis businesses with the potential to go up to 10% while San Diego is currently at 8% but could go as high as 15%.

If voters approve Measure M, the tax would go into effect Jan. 1, 2021 with estimated revenues from $1.3 million to $2.9 million annually based on the proposed tax. Proceeds from the tax could be used for any lawful, general city service.

The fellow I met was named Ben Woods and he looked me in the eye and said that being fitted for those clubs was one of the best things that ever happened to him and he was determined to learn to play golf well enough to deserve the gift Ping had given him.

Ben is now out of the service, medically discharged just a month ago. He is as fine a young man as you would ever want to meet.

Ping, whose products are made with pride in Arizona, has the good judgment not to advertise this program.

This sure beats the hell out of Nike's million dollars giveaways to athletes who will not respect our flag nor our Country.

Ping, on the other hand, renews your faith in mankind, or at least the class of the PING Corporation. Too bad PING doesn't take advantage of this wonderful program by advertising it. You can bet the Media won't do it for them God Bless America and the game of golf.

Dear Lyle, we've been big fans of Pala Casino ever since last year after reading Friedrich Gomez's various cover stories on Pala's beautiful resort layout and the marvelous concert tribute shows there, many of which we have already enjoyed!

We just read in your "Man About Town" column in The Paper (Aug. 20 issue, page 12) that you, Evelyn, and our favorite writer Friedrich enjoyed the Rat Pack show on Aug. 14.

It happened that a young lady who was a caregiver and housekeeper for us made the unfortunate decision to go to Tijuana over several weekends to visit family. There were several large family gatherings.

Tijuana has a very high covid19 frequency.

Our young lady went home one day with headaches and a high temperature.

Her doctor ordered her to get a covid19 test.

She tested positive.

Thus our quarantine. She had been in our home so 14 days from the last day we had contact with her we were taken off quarantine. That was midnight this past Monday.

The good news? We are all feeling fine. Our young lady is apparently well on the mend and will remain on quarantine a bit longer.

Quarantine is a bit of a nuisance and inconvenience but a necessary action in these trying time. Two of our good friends had a similar 14 day quarantine after they returned from a vacation to Japan.

It happens. We survived. A few less trips to retaurants but we survived. Forward!

According to CNN News, the removal of Confederate statues, monuments, and possible plans of renaming military bases and ships, and even the vilification of past U. S. Presidents as erstwhile slave owners, all in the name of political correctness has, according to CNN: “Torched a nationwide debate over race and history.”

And no matter which side one falls on, you can be assured that PC fallout will accommodate you with toxic labeling, such as “racist” or “bleeding heart liberals.”

And if you think remaining neutral, or remaining silent, will immunize yourself from the slings and arrows of judgment – better think again.

There is already a widely-voiced label from protestors which states: “Silence is complicit with crime.”

In short, PC today makes all action, or even non-action -- such as silence -- inescapable.

Whether it is truly right or wrong to remove these monuments, a recent Reuters poll showed that the majority of Americans (54%) stated that: “The monuments should remain in all public spaces so that history, good or bad, can be freely taught in public schools.” The same poll showed 27% in favor of removal, and 19% unsure if we are truly running away from our real history.

VOICING PC CRITIQUES.

In his New York Times best-selling book, popular comic and illustrious “Saturday Night Live” alumnus, Dennis Miller, explodes on political correction: “We’re all supposed to zip through life like some huge societal squadron of Blue Angels, flying six inches off each other’s taste wing, never ever deviating even one angstrom.”

Dennis Miller’s PC rant helped make his book a national best-seller, which says a lot about the pulse of America today. Much of America agrees with him. Miller then serves up fair warning to his vast readership: “Well, folks, there are a lot of different aircraft careening through the social stratosphere, and we better start working out some respectfully independent glide paths right now, or it’s gonna start getting really messy . . .” (“Dennis Miller, The Rants” book, Amazon.com)

For a lot of people, it has already ‘gotten really messy.’

Often, the ongoing political correctness craze has driven normally-funny people like, Daniel Lawrence Whitney (Larry the Cable Guy), stark raving mad. Because comedians are no longer immune, nor do they have the erstwhile license to even joke about PC subject matter, at least not without possible reprisals. In a past interview on 60 Minutes, the famed Nebraskan comic was angry as hell, and blowing purple smoke: “It’s gotten way outta control. You know. I really think that we’re at a point in

this country where people really need to take the thumb outta their mouth and grow up a little bit and realize there’s a lot bigger problems out there than what a comedian did a joke about.”

Crossing the boundaries into the forbidden netherworld of political ‘incorrectness’ can cause grave consequences. Consequences which, indiscriminately, can end any comedian’s career.

Today’s comedians often feel stifled with their comedy guns only allowed to be half-cocked, depending on where they are performing. And in front of which ethnic assemblage.

The challenge, the vigor, the strength of taboo material which one could joke about, now seems no longer there. The fun and comedic challenge of venturing into these restricted areas have evaporated. For many standup comedians, it is now like playing tennis with the net down.

For many comedians they poke fun at political correctness by mockery.

“How do we speak about women and be politically correct?” inquires one male standup. “Well, she is not a babe or a chick – she’s a breasted American.”

Waiting for the laughter to subside, he continues launching further mortar attacks on PC restrictions: “She is not easy – she is horizontally accessible. Oh, and she is not dumb – she is a detour off the information superhighway!” Finally, he adds: “And one last thing folks, she is not horny – she is sexually focused.”

For many, such as megastar ventriloquist-comedian, Jeff Dunham, it remains puzzling how one can openly make Caucasian jokes with virtual immunity, however one treads on thin ice if one transcends from Caucasian “Redneck” jokes, for example, into the murky waters of including other ethnicities of color. The rules and playing field are suddenly different.

The dreaded “double standard” suddenly comes into play, so say many.

Comics know their limits, especially in what racial audience they may be performing in front of. However, it is often “safe passage” to keep the insult jokes to White Americans.

Such as this popular jocular observation which always rings forth laughter (without judgment): “He is not a bad dancer, okay – he is overly Caucasian!”

To others, political correctness is not a laughing matter. It is viewed as a dangerous sign of the times. Famed German-Australian photographer, Helmut Newton (1920–2004), of proud Jewish extraction, and whose celebrated photos were a mainstay for Vogue magazine, spoke with a most serious and foreboding voice, warning us all: “The term ‘political correctness’ has always appalled me, reminding me of Orwell’s ‘Thought Police’ and fascist regimes.”

Today his words ring loud and clear.

Controversial standup comedian, Gilbert Gottfried, in a magazine interview called the prevalence of

Because you can’t do or say anything today without having to apologize later, to someone, or some cause.

Gottfried paints a somber and ridiculous picture, “Imagine if the most brilliant comedians in history were working today. They’d never stop apologizing. Charlie Chaplin would have to apologize to all the homeless people he belittled with his Little Tramp character. W. C. Fields and Dean Martin would both have to apologize to alcoholics. The Marx Brothers would have to apologize to Italians, mutes, and uptight British ladies.”

For many, language has become far too harsh and abrasive as when Black music rappers freely employ the dreaded ‘n’ word along with dropping the ‘f’ bomb as freely as one sprinkles pepper on an unseasoned steak.

Nonetheless, the lethal double-standard exists: only Blacks can say the ‘n’ word – not the rest of us because it would then be politically incorrect.

So say many observers.

However, even within the Black community, itself, there is a diversion of thinking regarding this usage of the ‘n’ word, which for many Blacks will always remain politically incorrect, regardless who utters it, Black or White.

As one Black woman tweeted on the internet, “Not all Blacks call Whites names (I never call anyone names).

Not all Blacks call each other the ‘n’ word. If I hear it from anyone I take offense to it. Too ugly a word, with too ugly a history. Black people are not a monolith, in spite of attempts from both outside AND within to try and make us one. Get to know the individuals, as you probably would with someone White, and you might be surprised.”

Aside from popular Black rappers and Black standup comedians who frequently use defaming jokes and derogatory names for each other with a measure of PC immunity, so also do other racial groups. For example, stellar Mexican-American comedians, such as Paul Rodriguez, George Lopez, and San Diego’s own homegrown comedy giant, Gabriel Iglesias, all poke fun of their ancestral roots resulting in gigantic laughs from approving audiences numbering in the millions.

“White men marry all the pretty Latinas,” Paul Rodriguez quips in front of a predominantly MexicanAmerican audience. “But I don’t blame you women. You want to be homeowners. If you want to rent an apartment your entire life – you marry a Mexican!”

The audience is engulfed with laughter.

However, when an ‘outsider’ should join in the comedic rough-housing, as mentioned above, things can quickly become ugly, turning the performance stage into the gallows. And the audience priming the guillotine, shouting for the intruder’s head, in the name of ‘political incorrectness.’

An unpardonable sin, for so-called ‘ethnic outsiders.’

The above actually happened to English actor, producer, and worldfamous comedian, John Cleese, who tripped on an ethnic double-standard and fell head-first into the treacherous and murky waters of political incorrectness. The high-profile condemnation was so unforgiving and so volatile that the incident succeeded in driving John Cleese into abandoning any similar future attempts.

The former Monty Python star angrily called the PC culture “condescending.” Later, before a network television audience, John Cleese gave reason for completely stopping race-related jokes after audiences were angered and insulted over his jokes about Mexicans in his routine.

Cleese stated: “Make jokes about Swedes and Germans and French and English and Canadians and Americans, why can’t we make jokes about Mexicans? Is it because they are so feeble that they can’t look after themselves? It’s very, very condescending there.”

Between the polarity of extremes, therein lies the underbelly of everyday society. Many claim PC ‘overcorrects’ us into a meek, submissive shell of a tortoise. For many, PC can ‘victimize’ you in a most unexpected way.

Case in point, Jay Leno, formerly of “The Tonight Show” fame, confesses a true-life account of political correctness gone haywire back when he hosted the popular late night show.

As Jay Leno reflects back to that infamous day: “I’ll give you an example. We had college interns visit the show’s studio back then. During the last year of the show, one of the interns comes and says, ‘Mr. Leno, I’m getting lunch, what do you want?’ So, I said, ‘I don’t know, where are you going?’ And he said, ‘We’re getting Mexican.’ And I said, ‘I don’t really like Mexican.’ So, he says, ‘Whoa! That’s kinda racist.’”

Leno takes pause, pushing back from his chair as if to emphasize his next point, “That’s not racist! Being antiguacamole is not racist, okay?!”

Clearly and understandably upset from being grossly misjudged, Jay Leno shows his well-placed anger by stating his inner-thoughts: “You have no idea what racism is. That’s not racism – you idiot, you moron!”

In such real scenarios, ‘political over-correctness’ can summon up the negative side of human beings. Such as in the example recounted by Jay Leno, which ignited his fuse.

According to repeated nationwide polls, such thinking creates an unhealthy fear of PC.

Many feel that disguising the truth, or hiding it, in the name of pseudo political correctness, may be the first step for a culture to surrender its ideals, and then decline to its eventual, ignominious death. An opinion growing by leaps and bounds in repeated national surveys.

American writer, novelist, and social intellectual, Gore Vidal (1925–2012) has warned us all, stating prior to his death: “As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too.

Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action. By destroying a city, you claim to have liberated it.

Words are then used to confuse, so that at election time, people will solemnly vote against their own interests.” And not realize it.

NO PLACE FOR GOD.

Whatever one’s personal opinion on all of the above, one thing seems clear: Political correctness, in all its shades and propensities, seems here to stay. In fact, it is growing stronger, even in its most extreme forms. The American flag is ridiculed as a symbol of hypocrisy and many religious statues have, literally, been toppled.

Demands to remove statues of a White Jesus are already on the radical PC agenda. On July 15, 2020, The Washington Times reported the headline: “NO PLACE FOR GOD.” The newspaper reported: “It would be quite a stretch to blame churches for George Floyd’s death, yet houses of worship and religious statues are coming under attack in the protest mayhem.”

In recent weeks, from east to west, at least four Catholic-affiliated buildings and statues from Boston to Los Angeles were set on fire or vandalized in the name of political correctness. One radical PC proponent openly stated on the internet: “Tear them down!” and called for the further destruction of the, “White holy family!” Nothing is mentioned that there are many Black churches across the United States which depict statues and paintings of a Black Jesus Christ, such as with the mural of a Black savior, Jesus, which dominates the foyer of the mammoth Ebenezer African American church in Maryland.

Images of a Black Madonna and child are found around the world, including Africa. Likewise, the Biblical Christ Jesus is portrayed as Asian, Oriental, and even clothed in wool-cloth Peruvian attire – all respective in the country which celebrates him. One often loses perspective that we quibble over the “lost fact” that Jesus only appeared in human form (according to Scripture) for he chose to physically manifest and live among us. If one accepts what is found in the Bible, then one must accept that He (Jesus) represents all people, regardless of color or creed.

Prior to his incarnation, Jesus had no color, no physical body, according to Bible scholars, such as the late Billy Graham. Graham was quoted as saying: “God doesn’t have a body like we do. God is spirit, the Bible tells us, which means He can be everywhere at the same time.” So, also, with his Son in the Beginning, who dwelt with God long before time and the physical universe. People are free to see Jesus in multiple, prismatic lighting as a representation of all people, all colors, all of which are of God’s creation, so say many of the world’s foremost Biblical scholars.

media do not stereotype all protesters as dangerous extremists. Many are peaceful and, sometimes, will openly conflict with individuals within their own assemblage who resort to violence.

I may stand alone in my feelings.

Perhaps, even ridiculed as a fool.

Perhaps, even laughed at. Because, I still feel unashamed at standing whenever my flag is raised (you don’t have to stand if you don’t wish), or when I hear the Star Spangled Banner. I’m not ashamed to confess that proud tears always well up in my eyes during such occasions. I am fully aware of my country’s faults, but I also have enough grey matter in my cranium to also know that my country – with all its warts, peccadilloes, and faults – is still (by far) the best real estate to stand on, in this spinning Blue Marble, this third planet from the Sun. To paraphrase: “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the other forms.”

If my country is ailing, help fix it -don’t erase it from existence, or destroy the basic tenets and rewrite a Godless society. Instead, I ask – no, I beg of you – if my country has faults, do not burn and cast her into the dustbin of life. Instead, give her to me. For I will take her to my bosom and never forsake her, and tend to her (constructively), just as she nurtured me when I was vulnerable and newborn. No, she is not perfect, but she still remains my country and she is still worth saving and defending, as I did in the military overseas.

I wish to invite you to join forces, peacefully – not violently – to freely speak our minds, and confess our anger, but, do not cast stones or burn my country to the ground. You see, she is more than my country. She is my Mother, whose soil gave birth to me and sustained me. She is sacred ground to me. If there is work to be done, do it peacefully and constructively. Let us work together. But in the end, democracy rules.

Not all White people think the same.

The same is true of Blacks, Asians, Orientals, Native Americans, Hispanics, et al. Never judge any race, ethnic group, or nationality as a “monolithic” group which thinks the same, because that’s stereotyping them into one lump sum. And isn’t that an insidious form of racism, the very thing you may oppose?

We are at a point in our country where we can erase history, or learn from it. Just remember one thing, no one is perfect. The same holds true for every country on Earth, without exception. Everyone has a skeleton or two in their closet. My paternal grandpa, Marshall, once joked: “Some neighbors have a whole damned cemetery in their closet!”

Lincoln warned us: “We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of Earth. Other means may succeed; this could not fail. The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just – which, if followed, the world will for-

Women’s Right to Vote

August marks a huge milestone. In 1920, women were granted the right to vote nationwide when Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment. The amendment reads: “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

parts of the country until the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Today, women serve at all levels of leadership in our state and nation, including governors, congressional representatives and senators. In the California Legislature, I serve as Assembly Minority Leader, along with Toni Atkins, Pro-Tem and Shannon Grove, Minority Leader, both in the Senate.

Just to be clear, millions of women had already been voting. Fifteen states had granted women full suffrage, and limited voting rights had been granted in another twelve. In some states like Colorado and Oklahoma, women’s suffrage passed by elections that were only open to male voters.

The 19th Amendment passed Congress in 1919 with bi-partisan support – over 80% of Republicans and 50% of Democrats supported the measure in both houses. In the1920 election, 36% of women, compared to 68% of men, actually voted, but since 1980, turnout among women has slightly surpassed male turnout.

Even after passage of the 19th Amendment, voting rights did not include all women. Women of color were not allowed to vote in some

We’ve come a long way in 100 years and we continue to work for equality.

Budget Season

For many years, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has been criticized for not spending its reserves.

When I ran for election in 2018, I stressed that we must continue to be fiscally responsible, maintaining healthy reserves in case of an emergency. COVID-19 qualifies as an emergency and has certainly been difficult on everyone, but also is a prime example of why the County needs strong fiscal reserves.

The County of San Diego released their budget for fiscal year 2020-21 and, for the first time in many years, we will be dipping into our reserves to continue to provide current levels of public safety and other services.

I believe that public safety is the number one priority for County government, and it’s good to see the proposed budget call for over $2 billion to be spent on safety for our County.

Also, under the proposed plan, our Health and Human Services department will see a 9% increase, much of which will go towards COVID-19 response efforts.

For our unincorporated areas, the proposal calls for almost $24 million to be spent on homelessness. Along with homelessness, I believe we need to continue to address our behavioral health crisis in our County.

Homelessness and mental health certainly have crossover and I’m pleased to see the budget call for a 13% increase to address these issues.

Businesses are barely hanging on through the COVID-19 response. And, while the County doesn’t have the power to open them back up, I believe we need to do everything we can to keep them from permanent employee layoffs and closures. I will continue to push to safely and responsibly reopen businesses while protecting our vulnerable populations.

There are many more areas to this year’s proposed budget, which I encourage you to check out at, SanDiegoCounty.gov/openbudget.

Once our budget is adopted, I will promise you that I will continue to make sure these dollars are spent as effectively as possible and keep the County’s finances in order.

Harding: One of America’s Worst Presidents

Warren Gamaliel Harding was the 29th President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1921 until his death on Aug. 2, 1923. History and the nation never realized just how bad he was until after his death.

was victorious over Democrat James M. Cox and Socialist Party candidate Eugene Debs. Harding became the first sitting U.S. senator to be elected president.

Harding preferred a low-key inauguration without the customary parade celebration. He was sworn in as President on March 4, 1921, in the presence of his wife and father.

There was a brief reception at the White House where he gave a short inaugural address.

"Our most dangerous tendency is to expect too much from the government and at the same time do too little for it," he said. His expectations were delivered on both accounts.

Harding did appoint a number of well-regarded and sucessful figures to his cabinet, including Andrew Mellon as Treasury Secretary; Herbert Hoover as Secretary of Commerce; and Charles Hughes as Secretary of State.

A major foreign policy achievement came with the Washington Naval Conference of 1921–1922, in which the world's major naval powers agreed on a naval limitations program that lasted for 10 years. But Harding’s success was overshadowed by two of his cabinet members: Interior Secretary Albert Fall and Attorney General Harry Daugherty, both were implicated in corruption.

Harding died as one of the most popular presidents, but later after the exposure of scandals that took place during his tenure -- such as the infamous Teapot Dome oil scandal – his popularity eroded dramatically. In historical rankings of the U.S. presidents, a number of historians rate Harding among the worst of chief executives.

Historians generally agree that if Harding was guilty of anything it was poor judgment of character and choice of appointments. He famously took care of his friends, but many of them were either unqualified for their positions or took illegal advantage of their office.

Harding was born in Blooming Grove, Ohio, Nov. 2, 1865. Except when political service took him elsewhere, he lived in rural Ohio all of his life. When not yet 20 years of age, he settled in Marion and bought the failing The Marion Star newspaper, building it into a successful publication. In 1899, he was elected to the Ohio State Senate, and after four years in office successfully ran for lieutenant governor. He was defeated for governor in 1910, but four years later Harding was elected to the U.S. Senate.

In 1920, when Harding ran for the Republican nomination for president, he was considered an “alsoran” with little chance of success.

The leading candidates could not gain a majority in order to secure the GOP nomination, leaving the convention deadlocked. Harding's support gradually grew until he was nominated on the 10th ballot.

Harding conducted a “front porch campaign” from his home in Marion allowing supporters to come to him. Running on a theme of “return to normalcy,” Harding

But the two Harding cabinet appointees who darkened the reputation of his administration for their involvement in scandal were Harding's Senate friend, Fall of New Mexico, and Daugherty. Fall was a Western rancher and former miner, who advocated pro-development. He was opposed by noted conservationists of the day such as Gifford Pinchot, who wrote, "… it would have been possible to pick a worse man for Secretary of the Interior, but not altogether easy.”

Harding appointed a number of other friends and acquaintances to federal positions who served competently, while other of Harding’s friends who proved corrupt, were dubbed the "Ohio Gang.”

Most of the scandals marring the reputation of Harding's administration did not emerge until after his death. The most memorable of those scandals involved the U.S. Naval oil reserves at Tea Pot Dome in Wyoming. Teapot Dome was one of three reserves set aside for use by the Navy in a national emergency.

There was a longstanding argument those reserves should be developed.

Harding signed an executive order transferring the reserves from the Navy Department to the Department of Interior under Secretary Fall’s control. He was accused of pocketing money from that maneuver.

The scandals greatly damaged Harding’s historical reputation. On Aug. 2, 1923, Harding died of heart disease in San Francisco while on a western speaking tour. Among friends he was a noted gambler, heavy drinker and possibly a womanizer.

Harding was succeeded by his vice president, Calvin Coolidge, who is highly regarded in history. He would go on to be elected President in his own right after completing Harding’s term.

Oceanside CIVITAN To Make Awards to Local Charities - At a special meeting on September 14th, the Oceanside Chapter of CIVITAN International, a non-profit community service organization, will present annual awards to local charities.

CIVITAN members are pleased to be able to assist the following local organizations with donations: Vista Transitional High School; Boys and Girls Club – ROADS Program; Sports for Exceptional Athletes; Oceanside Library READS Program; Hospice of North Coast; Volunteers in Medicine; D’Vine Path; and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Program.

Oceanside Small Business Grants Now Available - The Oceanside Chamber and MainStreet Oceanside will partner to manage the City of Oceanside's Small Business Grant Funds. On May 19, the S.D. County Board of Supervisors allocated $3,1388.961 in Federal Corona Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds to the City of Oceanside. On June 17, 2020, the Oceanside City Council approved a spending plan for the funds, which included $100,000 for grants to small businesses.

MainStreet Oceanside and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will manage grant programs to disburse the funds to eligible Oceanside businesses. MainStreet will manage a grant program for eligible Downtown Oceanside businesses, and the Chamber will manage a grant program for businesses citywide (outside of MainStreet’s District).

amusing true incident. We just bumped into Friedrich at Albertson's supermarket here in Escondido and when we asked him if he enjoyed the Rat Pack Show, well Lyle, he was like a little boy on Christmas morning! Goodness gracious, he started jumping up and down with great excitement, clapping his hands and talking about how exciting it was! Honestly Lyle, we were laughing so hard that my daughter, Julia, actually had to grab him, hug him, to calm him down!

Lyle, the Good Lord is my witness, that is a true story! He's such an adorable person and I can sense he's very innocent and naive in some ways. We first met Friedrich just a few years ago when he worked at the San Marcos Walmart store. He wore braces on his teeth back then and he told us that after 3 1/2 years it was the greatest moment for him when they took his braces off his teeth -- now he told us he has to wear a mask during this coronavirus ordeal and can't show off his beautiful teeth and smile. LOL, he's so wonderful.

Lyle, you and Evelyn Madison are so, so very blessed to have Friedrich in your lives.

Our neighbor Florence Whitman, laughingly said she's going to "adopt" him and I laughingly told her, "Honey, you have to stand in line for that!" My daughter gave me what is known as a "high five."

P.S. We've stayed at Pala's Luxury High Rise Hotel on two occasions and it beats the stuffing out of Las Vegas! -From Arlene Ann Tibbets with family and friends, all in San Diego North County.

You’ve probably heard The Starfish Story. It was first written as an essay by Loren Eisley in 1969. It has been abridged, edited, cut, even changed over the years as it has been used in churches, schools, by motivational speakers and no doubt in a TED talk or two.

It often bears repeating, but especially in these times.

Early one morning an old man walked along the beach. Overnight, a big storm had littered the beach with starfish, more than he could count.

Down the beach, a small boy was approaching. As he walked, the boy would pause, pick up a starfish toss it into the sea. The boy came closer and the man called out, “Good morning! What it is that you are doing?”

The young boy replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide

The boy bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean. Then he smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

These are difficult times, unprecedented is the buzz word. There is COVID-19. There are wildfires.

People need jobs, they need encouragement. Teachers are trying to teach at a distance, students are trying to learn at the same distance.

People are hurting.

There is so much to do, so many starfish on the beach. Can anyone really make a difference?

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, once told of the Shepherd who secured his flock and left it to search for one lost sheep. When he found it, he rejoiced because he made a difference in that one sheep’s life.

There is so much to do. Pick a starfish on the beach of these unprecedented times and make a difference in just one. There will be rejoicing.

I think our CCAE deserves a special shout out for its “drive in movie theater” at the Mall a couple Fridays ago. All of the feedback I’ve received was that it was a success. I think what makes it more of a success is the ingenuity it represents. During this COVID 19 era, I feel like I am watching human innovation at its best. People will not be defeated by this virus, and its associated health restraints. I sometime feel we are watching human history in action. People seem to find a way.

The idea of turning Grand Ave into a pedestrian plaza of sorts has been around for a while. The barriers that we now have allowing businesses to move to the street have been working well. At least that is the feedback I’ve received. We may be moving in that pedestrian plaza concept after all. Keeping sending me your feedback.

The Oceanside Backyard Compost Program is Currently Restocking!

Since launching the program in July, over 450 Oceanside residents and educators have expressed interest in turning their kitchen scraps into compost by registering to receive free compost bins through the City’s Backyard Compost Program. This is over quadruple the amount of participants the City has ever received in a year. Never before has the City seen this level of community participation in zero waste programming.

Due to the overwhelming support, current registration has been suspended while the Green Oceanside team works to restock supplies to meet the community demand for static and vermicomposting bins. Residents who have already registered but not picked-up their bin yet will be contacted once their selected bin becomes available for pick-up.

RB Chorale Awards Final Scholarships - The RB Chorale, under the direction and leadership of Pat Bean for the past 46 years, is disbanding. This extremely difficult decision was made primarily because of financial reasons and associated obstacles in retaining rehearsal and performance space. The 120+ member group had reached this decision earlier this year and had planned for one final concert in June, but restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus prevented this from happening. A key part of the Chorale’s mission was to raise monies for graduating high school seniors who wish to continue their pursuit of a

Don’t buy a “retail” Dell or HP Computer

Last week’s oppressive heat and humidity kept folks indoors. It was just the break we needed to get restocked and re-organized for the gradual re-opening of schools and business. The work and school from home requirements and the proliferation of net-meetings thrust upon us by the Covid19 pandemic reawakened the demand for PCs. Every home needs to have a fast, comfortable, reliable PC “workstation.” Smart phones and tablets have an important place in our lives but six inch touch screens have serious limitations when it comes to doing real work.

The Board of Directors recently held virtual interviews and heard several talented students perform so that final scholarship awards could be granted. As always, these young musicians did not disappoint, and the Board was thrilled to be able to divide $10,000 between four of them. Additionally, once the Chorale’s dissolution is final, any remaining funds will be distributed to them as a supplemental award.

The first award went to Evan Zhou who graduated from Del Norte High School and will be a freshman at Princeton this fall. He plans to study politics and obtain a certificate in music. Evan treated us with a difficult violin piece by Tchaikovsky which demonstrated his proficiency. He is a National Merit Finalist, National AP Scholar, and Debate Team captain. He received several 1st place VOCE awards and is coconcert master of the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra. He is 1st violin in the String Bean Quartet, and previously with Equinox, winning several state level competitions.

As “enterprise” workstations flooded the market and prices dropped, it became obvious to us here at The Computer Factory that these “enterprise” workstations were easily the most cost effective solution for the majority of home and small business users. We shifted our focus from building standard workstations to building high-end specialty computers for high task applications like gaming, video/audio editing, solids modeling and day trading. For standard business and home workstations we began customizing the “enterprise refurbs.”

Three years ago we hooked up with a Los Angeles company that specializes in purchasing surplus computer equipment from enterprise users. We’ve developed a friendship and close working relationship with the owner and his employees. We typically visit their facility once or twice each month. We pay premium prices for the privilege of “cherry picking” from their inventory of thousands of all types of PCs (micros, notebooks, desktops, towers and all-in ones).

Melanie sang a moving aria by Handel which conveyed a depth of emotion and expression that was quite professional. Her strong connection to music and people will help her achieve her goal of becoming a choral director after she graduates. During her years at Mount Carmel High School she was active in musical groups and theater and enjoyed performing in a variety of productions.

Dillon Halpin received a scholarship for his skillful playing of the flute.

He has focused on this instrument for the past 8 years after beginning piano studies at the age of five.

Recently graduated from Mira Mesa High School, Dillon plans to attend the University of California at Santa Barbara this fall and pursue a degree in conducting and someday become a college professor. He is a top scholar, a member of the Wind

Today a five year old “enterprise Dell, HP or Lenovo will outlast and outperform a brand new “retail” Dell, HP or Lenovo PC and costs half as much. If consumers actually understood how much better “enterprise” computers are than their “retail” cousins, new retail PC sales would drop by 90%. If that really happened, demand would push “refurb” prices past “retail” prices. But that hasn’t

happened, so we can still sell a Win10 “refurb” PC workstation for about half the price of a new “retail” PC.

It’s difficult to convince some folks that used can be better than new. It’s also hard to believe that something can cost half as much yet be twice as good. There are several good reasons why this is true in the case of “enterprise refurbs’ vs. new “retail PCs” of the same brand. But the biggest reason that “refurbs” are such a great bargain today is simply that most business and home users either don’t know about them or simply think that they’re too good to be true. That’s the biggest single factor in keeping the prices low.

She interns at Palomar Hospital, performs at local nursing homes, and is an equestrienne.

Although the historic decades of RB Chorale performances have come to a close, it leaves a lasting impression on the community.

When Pat Bean invited any interested community singers into her home in 1974 and 16 people attended that first evening, she began working on a vision that ultimately became the RB Chorale.

Her inspiration, dedication, and passion over the years has resulted in granting over $300,000 in schol-

arships to over 200 students. The organization has also supported the community by sponsoring the RB Idol annual competition and generously donated a grand piano to the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Since its first concert held at the now-closed RB Equestrian park, multiple appearances at community events has made this group well known in the Rancho Bernardo and Poway area. The RB Chorale, under the direction of Pat Bean, will be sorely missed.

Cash Registers

It always amazes me that, when I go to check out at a store, when I give the cashier the payment, that the person will know exactly how much change I should receive. That has happened to all of us.

Sure, the cash register has a program that can automatically calculate how much change, if any, the customer should receive. Just like at gas stations when you pay by cash and you ask for money to be returned because you had given the cashier too much money when you prepaid.

Yes, it’s the 21st century, and things have changed since the Dark Ages, or the 20th century for that matter. But when you’re as technologically challenged as I am, you marvel at all these developments, and wonder what is next.

But it all took time. Even the cash registers. How did it originate?

Actually out of necessity. A Dayton, Ohio, restaurateur named James Ritty ran a popular café in the 1870s. However, as crowded as it always was, the café continually lost money. Ritty blamed it on the employees dishonesty, who often used an old cigar box for their transaction. There was no way to track sales. Ritty knew that something has to be done, so, while on a ship to Europe, he observed the workings of an automatic device on board that recorded the revolutions of the ship’s propellers’. Ritty soon was trying to design a similar device that would record amounts of money passing through the cash drawer. By 1879, Ritty had assembled his first cash register. He quickly founded a cash register company.

Although Ritty did not sell many registers, he soon sold the company to a John Patterson, who would call the company the National Cash Register Company.

By 1900, the company had sold over 200,000 registers throughout the world. In 1922 alone, over two million registers were sold. The company dominated the market, as competitors were bought out if necessary. By 1944, National Cash Register had applied for 2400 patents.

However, in the 1970s there were radical changes. Why? It was the dawn of the micro processing technology era. However, despite the upgrades, most companies realized that cash registers were still a necessity. You could not allow your employees to use outdated registers. Using old equipment would either indicate that you did not want to keep up with the times, or you had a liking and admiration for antiquities. Either way, eventually you had to change over.

But for collectors, there is a certain appeal to vintage cash registers.

Collectors will keep an eye out for them, but they are popular auction items. Here are some examples of cash register sales.

A gilt bronze cash register manufactured by the National Cash Register in 1913 sold for $1750.

Instructions are even on the back of the register as well as how to repair the machine and how to order supplies. This register is common to what you see when you picture an old bronze vintage cash register.

An even older register, one from 1902 sold for $2250. It has a nickel-plated finish, and is in running condition. Another vintage register with an antique brass finish sold for $3600 at auction.

A rare ferris wheel cage register model 562-4-C, made by the National Cash Register sold for $6000. The register was quite elaborate and larger than most.

The cash register has changed dramatically, especially with the introduction of Paint of Sold Systems, your common registers that are computerized. Most registers nowadays are found in retail stores and restaurants. The computerized registers use touchscreen terminals which allow for scanning of items, as well as for credit card transactions. These new registers also allow for the register operator to tell me how much change I’m owed, as well as to tell the operator how much change was owed a person who had made a $1.50 payment with a $100 bill. Just another example of relying on machines.

by Sections 33341 and 33433 of the Health and Safety Code Related to the Disposal of Real Property

The City of San Marcos will hold a public hearing on September 8, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 1 Civic Center Drive, San Marcos, CA 92069, to consider approving the disposal of five manufactured home properties, three vacant properties for development to a qualified manufactured home dealer through a public bid process and two tenant-occupied properties as they become available. The properties are located at 500 Rancheros Drive, Spaces 21, 94 and 122, 150 S. Rancho Santa Fe Space 146 and 1219 E. Barham Drive, Space 169.

The manufactured home dealer must develop the properties with new homes and make them available to low-and moderate-income persons who earn at or below 120% of San Diego County’s Area Median Income (AMI) who will use the property as their primary residency. Properties shall not be made available as investment properties.

Since the property to be disposed by the City in its capacities as the Successor Agency and the Successor Housing Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency (RDA) of the City of San Marcos was purchased by the former San Marcos Redevelopment Agency (RDA) using low/mod housing increment funds, a public hearing is required by Sections 33431 and 33433 of the California Health and Safety Code.

If you are a creditor or a contingent creditor of the decedent, you must file your claim with the court and mail a copy to the personal representative appointed by the court within the later of either (1) four months from the date of first issuance of letters to a general personal representative, as defined in Section 58(b) of the California Probate Code, or (2) 60 days from the date of mailing or personal delivery to you of a notice under section 9052 of the California Probate Code. Other California statues and legal authority may affect your rights as a creditor.

You may want to consult with an attorney knowledgeable in California law.

You may examine the file kept by the court. If you are a peson interested in the estate, you may file with the court a Request for Special Notice (form DE-154) of the filing of an inventory and appraisal of estate assets or of any petition or account as provided in Probate Code section 1250.
