hua hin land department under scrutiny after high ranking officials implicated
hua hin, THAILAND It has been reported this week that the police are to take action against six officials, including senior figures at the Land Department, for allegedly issuing illegal documents for two plots of land in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The plots of land are a seven rai plot in the Hin Lek Fai subdistrict of Hua Hin, and a four rai seaside plot within the Hua Hin municipality. The larger plot is reported to be ‘near a golf club in Hua Hin district’ and from the information and photographs available AWOL has ascertained that this is the Black Mountain course, as this is the only course in that subdistrict. There have been rumours and hearsay for many years about corruption in Hua Hin’s Land Department, but this is the first time we are aware of such high profile action being launched. Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division chief Norasak Hemnithi said an investigation revealed irregularities in the issuing of title deeds for the two plots with a total of ten people involved in the scam. The officials allegedly took bribes for the issuing of the title deeds, with the senior land officials receiving 200,000 baht per rai and the local administration officers being paid a total of 1.6 million baht, he said. Investigators are compiling more evidence before filing formal charges against the officials. The seven rai plot had been confiscated by the police in December 2007 under land encroachment laws, but in 2010 it was discovered that a title deed had been issued for the land and it had been sold for 7 million baht per rai. A similar scenario unfolded with the other plot, seized between 2008 and 2009, with a value of 10 million baht per rai if it had been sold. It is believed that a number of other plots with unlawfully issued title deeds are also being investigated. ORDER NOW FOR THANKSGIVING

suwon, south korea ‘Toilet theme park’ is a hit in South Korea It may sound pants, but the world’s first ‘toilet theme park’ is proving a huge hit with tourists in South Korea. Visitors to the Restroom Cultural Park in the southern city of Suwon can learn fun facts about human poo and look around a toilet-themed art gallery. The unusual amusement park was built in memory of the city’s former mayor, Sim Jae-Duck, affectionately known as Mr Toilet. Mr Jae-Duck had a passion for toilets and spent his life campaigning for better toilets in the sovereign state. He was reportedly born in his grandmother’s loo and even built a toilet-shaped house to live in, which has since been turned into a museum in the theme park. The park’s Lee Youn Souk said the importance of the toilet should not be underestimated. ‘We just focus on eating everyday, we sometimes overlook the importance of the toilet,’ she told the BBC. ‘We already know upon waking up in the morning we should go to the toilet but people don’t want to talk about this. [They are] so important for health, sanitation and water conservation.’

Earl K Wood, a Democrat campaigning to be reinstated as Orange County Tax Collector in Orlando, Florida, died aged 96 of natural causes on October 15. Despite being criticised for never coming into his office but collecting a large salary, he still managed to secure 56 per cent of votes against his very-much-alive Republican opponent. Standing for election in central Alabama, Republican Charles Beasley, 77, was trying to reclaim his old seat on the Bibb County Commission when he died of a suspected aneurysm on October 12. Mr Beasley received a convincing majority of votes against Democrat opponent Walter Sansing. Mr Sansing said: ‘It is a touchy situation. When you are running against a dead man, you are limited as to what you can say.’

motorcycle Club Structure Most MC clubs have an internal structure that is organized similarly to other types of clubs. Here is an example of basic duties and responsibilities of one MC club. Each club and even chapters within the same club will have differences. President: The CHAIRMAN of the Executive Committee and CEO of the club chapter. All matters concerning relations between the club and any outside person or organization should be routed to them for appropriate action. Assumes the Chair at all chapter meetings (or their delegate). If necessary, may ask the Sergeant-atArms to keep order. Vice-President: Coordinates all committees and supervises plans for all club events. Acts as intermediary between the President and Members and Prospects. Deals
with any issues concerning club business not specifically related to the duties of other officers. Deputises for the President, assuming all responsibilities and duties in their absence. Secretary: Makes and keeps all club chapter records. Calls roll at meetings. Must notify Active Members of special or emergency meetings, and all the members of any appointments or elections in their absence. Treasurer: Responsible for all funds, club colours and patches, including the recording and reporting, of the club chapter. May disburse funds to pay expenses as prescribed in the Standing Rules. Submits a written annual report to the Executive Committee at the Annual Meeting. Sergeant-at-Arms: Ensures that Bylaws and Standing Rules of the club are not violated and
