Voici le nouveau numéro d’AWOTELE, revue cinématographique née au coin d’une table lors d’une discussion entre critiques ciné, forcément utopistes, qui écrivent sur des films que peu de gens voient et ont une expertise souvent cantonnée aux réseaux de diffusion des cinémas d’Afrique – ou parfois, des festivals internationaux s’intéressant à l’Afrique. Votre solide soutien, venant de tous les coins du monde, nous a fait chaud au cœur. D’abord parce qu’il nous prouve que notre combat n’est pas vain, qu’il existe des lecteurs avides de connaître, comprendre ou découvrir ce qui se tourne en Afrique mais aussi parce que vous avez été sensibles à encourager un secteur dont l’économie, on le sait, est des plus précaires. Faire des films est un combat. Les rendre visibles en est un autre. C’est celui que nous relevons, numéro après numéro, en travaillant avec une graphiste pour avoir un rendu des plus beaux, en misant sur l’image mais surtout sur des textes en français et en anglais, qui sont, à notre sens, le seul moyen de se comprendre, se découvrir et s’entraider. Comme nous l’avions souhaité, ce numéro sera bilingue, questionnera les nouveaux supports de diffusion et l’une de nos représentantes ira à Durban faire parler d’Awotele… En espérant que vous apprécierez les écrits fournis par nos contributeurs des quatre coins de l’Afrique, nous vous donnons rendez-vous en octobre pour un prochain numéro. A l’occasion des 50 ans des Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage, où un autre utopiste, Tahar Cheriaa, décida en 1966 de lancer un festival panafricain de cinéma, du Nord au Sud du Sahara… Le comité éditorial

Here is the latest edition of AWOTELE, a film journal born on the corner of a table, in a discussion between necessarily utopian film critics who write about films that few people see and whose expertise is often limited to the distribution networks of African cinema – or, at times, the international festivals that take an interest in Africa. Your solid backing, which has come from all corners of the world, deeply touched us. First of all, because you showed us that our combat is not in vain, that there are readers out there keen to know, understand or discover the works shot in Africa; but also because you were willing to encourage a sector whose economy, as we know, is more than precarious. Making films is a combat. Making them visible is another. That is the fight we undertake, from edition to edition, working with a graphic designer to ensure an optimum presentation that focuses on images, but above all on texts, in French and in English, which, in our opinion, is the only way to understand, discover and help one another. As we hoped, this edition is bilingual, will question the new modes of distribution, and one of our representatives will be in Durban to promote Awotele. We hope that you will appreciate the articles written by our contributors from all over Africa and invite you back in October for our coming edition. It will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Carthage Film Festival (JCC), where another utopian, Tahar Cheriaa, decided in 1966 to launch a Pan-African film festival, uniting North and South of the Sahara… The Editorial Committee
