Cover story 50 years ago, the Group established the brand ‘Arabian Automobiles Company’ and formed a successful partnership with Nissan which helped the Group become one of the Middle East’s leading and reputable conglomerates. This Issue’s Cover Story celebrates their grand achievement and the journey that led Arabian Automobiles Company to rejoice over half a century of automotive success.

Editor’s Note This season, Life Enriched honours a very special occasion celebrating the 50th anniversary of AW Rostamani’s Arabian Automobiles Company and partnership with Nissan. From 1968 to today, Arabian Automobiles Company has evolved from one showroom to one of the largest automobile distributors in the Gulf with 14 showrooms across Dubai and the Northern Emirates, selling more than 50,000 units annually. We proudly celebrate our automotive arm’s success and share their story on p.8. In light of celebrating impressive breakthroughs, this issue of Life Enriched introduces a new page to LE magazine, titled In-the-Know. Inthe-Know shares short remarkable facts and developments which have taken place this season, p.24. Entering a new year calls for a ‘new you’, thus this issue we spoke with some of our employees to find out what inspires them, p.48. We are looking forward to a very exciting year and thus sharing inspirations with friends and colleagues whilst taking on new challenges is a great way to ensure you are improving yourself in 2018. We have already seen great self-improvements for the Group this season through HR’s Fitness initiatives in alignment with Dubai’s Fitness Challenge (DFC). DFC is an initiative set by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, which aims to unite the people of Dubai to 30 minutes of continuous exercise for 30 days. AWR reflected the initiative by providing all employees with the chance to register for new sporting activities, gain discounts for gym memberships, enter a weight loss competition and provided encouragement for all participating in the Dubai Fitness Challenge p.90. Alongside bettering our lifestyles, our companies are also developing sustainability concepts in coalition with the UAE

government’s initiatives to better the environments that surround us. Al Rostamani Real Estate alongside Group Property Development have combined passive and intelligent designs to showcase modern living environments p.26 and p.84, Building Industries share their news on what it means to be an ESCO accredited company, and Lumina expands on how they have ensured their products contribute to a cleaner and greener environment. Amongst these exciting developments, this issue sees the release of three impressive and unique models from across our three leading automotive brands. Renault reveals the new long-range all-electric Zoe 40 p.74, INFINITI launch their INFINITI QX80 SUV bringing elegance to power and size p.40 and Nissan announces the joys of family life in a bigger, bolder SUV, X-TRAIL p.16. This issue also sees product reviews of designers such as Ozlem Tuna at Apartment51, Italian artisan designed jewellery from Vhernier p.32. Moreover, many exciting partnerships have been conducted this season, such as Lumina has partnered with Simon Fisher, one of the most respected product designers of light fixtures in the industry p.64 and Shift Technologies has partnered with Google Cloud p.30.

50th Anniversary of Arabian Automobiles Company and partnership with Nissan In this special edition of Life Enriched, the AW Rostamani Group celebrates over half a century of outstanding automotive success. 50 years ago, the Group established the brand ‘Arabian Automobiles Company’ and formed a successful partnership with Nissan which helped the Group become one of the Middle East’s leading and reputable conglomerates. 50 years later, the AW Rostamani Group possesses a turnover of 2 billion dollars and also includes a diversified portfolio of companies specialising in real estate, interior fit-out, lighting solutions, retail, and technology. The Group first capitalized on the opportunity to partner with Nissan when the company visited the UAE seeking a distributor in 1968. This led to the birth of AW Rostamani’s flagship business, Arabian Automobiles. Since its humble beginnings, the company has grown to achieve respected and influential successes in the region over five decades by seeking new opportunities to build the affluent business and successfully maintain a consistent momentum. Arabian Automobiles has rapidly grown from a single showroom to a large automotive network across Dubai and the Northern Emirates. From the offset, the business strategy was to offer a one-stopshop family brand that customers could trust. Correspondingly, the company laid down their key foundations and set out to achieve its objectives to become an industry leader and beacon of excellence in the region. AAC was built on a robust platform of company values that were created from the philosophies of the Late

Chairman, Abdul Wahid Al Rostamani which state ‘with passion I-CAN’. In its first year, AAC opened their first showroom and celebrated sales of over 100 units. Following the successful partnership with Nissan, AAC added INFINITI to their portfolio in 1982 and incorporated the brand’s IREDI concept to create one of the largest INFINITI Centers in the world, located on the very famous Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The facility incorporates a state-of-the-art retail concept that reflects and reinforces the energy and passion of the INFINITI brand. Over the years Arabian Automobiles INFINITI has consistently delivered robust business performance and has grown to become the largest INFINITI distributor in the GCC with 50% share reinforcing its position as a key player in the region and amongst the top 5 INFINITI Dealer worldwide delivering the best motoring experiences to customers in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. In 2005 AAC entered a third thriving partnership with automobile brand, Renault. Arabian Automobiles has sold more than 24,000 Renault vehicles since its establishment in Dubai and has expanded the brand’s network to four showrooms. Arabian Automobiles Renault is one of the fastest growing automotive brands in the region and has delivered strong business performance as a result of its exceptional customer service which has positively impacted on perceptions of the brand. As a result of its strong business performance, Arabian Automobiles Renault was named ‘Dealer of the Year’ in 2013- a global award bestowed by Renault.

In alignment with the UAE’s 2021 Vision to ensure sustainable development while preserving the environment, AAC is moving towards a sustainable mobility landscape. Renault’s market-leading electrical cars under the “EV” brand lead the drive of sustainability by providing zero vehicles such as the Zoe, Twizy and Kangoo to the GCC. From 1968 to today, Arabian Automobiles Company has evolved from one showroom to one of the largest automobile distributors in the Gulf with 14 showrooms across Dubai and the Northern Emirates, selling more than 50,000 units annually and is also the largest purchaser of Nissan Genuine Parts globally. Amongst these impressive expansions has come the revolutionary development of car leasing, multi-brand used cars and servicing, trading and certified pre-owned vehicles. AW Rostamani’s visionary approach has mirrored the growth of Dubai and embraced change and development with resolve and vigour. The organisation has taken inspiration from the leaders of the nation to embark on a path of ambitious growth and excellence.

Dubai’s drive for quality was strengthened by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE with the establishment of the Dubai Quality Award (DQA) in 1994. The same year, AW Rostamani initiated their journey of excellence with the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard. This was a turning point in the history of AAC, which transformed the management style and became the backbone of the company. ACC’s efforts have been acknowledged both locally and internationally with prestigious awards such as the Nissan Global Award, Infiniti Global Award and Renault Dealer of the year. For the 10th year in a row, AWR has brought home the Nissan WAPC Award. The group is the first automotive distributor in the UAE to be honoured with the prestigious Dubai Quality Gold Award, an award that reflects our commitment to delivering the highest standards of excellence to all stakeholders. In 2013, they were the first privately owned UAE Company to be inducted into the Balance Scorecard Hall of Fame by Palladium for their Strategy

AW Rostamani has proudly become a trusted and recognised name in the UAE automotive market, renowned for excellence in customer service and relations, and has built partnerships around a world-class portfolio of products. In order to rejoice the grand achievement of recording over a half of a century of success AW Rostamani gives thanks and gratitude to those who have contributed to their journey. Abdul Wahid Al Rostamani, AW Rostamani’s Late Chairman was not only a prosperous businessman but also a true, inspirational leader who cared about his employees and the community. Without his leadership, AW Rostamani wouldn’t be where it is today. Abdul Wahid’s ideals and attributes can be felt embedded in the core values of the Group and his passions and lessons remain. The Board of Directors have continued the Late Chairman’s ideologies and they collectively reflect his qualities of integrity, commitment, passion and never being satisfied.

ABBRACCIO An unusual overlapping and interlacing was performed, taking its shape into the compact and soft form that we all know. In the search for an abstract shape that arches and closes over on the opposite side, the warmth of a hug (abbraccio) comes to mind. A feat, a totally asymmetrical ring, born from observing a ball of wool from all sides and trying all the possible and imaginable weaving and braiding patterns. Thus, as it is almost impossible to capture with an image all the details of its plasticity, pictures seem to produce a slightly flat version of this work of art.

TOURBILLON A dynamic composition, with a force that seems to be in perennial movement. Like a whirlwind of emotions. For the passionate kind of love, that oozes beauty and elegance.

VAGUE. The “Vague” earrings have the characteristic distinctiveness of the brand, having been designed to accompany the face’s contours. The line that’s the most deeply representative of Vhernier’s savoir faire, was inspired by one of the jeweller’s instruments, the craftsman’s steel shaper, the “dima”. Eclisse. Vhernier’s true passion for architecture and contemporary art come forth in the Eclisse (Eclipse) ring. A clear cut creates two faces that reflect towards each other, revealing the magnificent colour of the stones, made brighter by a thin layer of rock crystal, or diamonds.

Fuseau. An antique memory recall, the Fuseau is the idealisation of the spindle once used to make wool. A perfect shape, perceptible in the earrings, for which a similar shaped pendant was created. For the ring, the spindle was created on a bias to ergonomically accompany the contours of the hand.

Blue Velvet. This extraordinary jewel was born from the desire to create a neverbefore-seen necklace, a contemporary gorgère able to softly adapt to any neck. The inspiration comes from the forms of the marina tridacna, a seashell, and from the waves of water that wash over it. Capturing the flow of that movement was made possible thanks to the lightness of titanium, the “poor” and beautiful material, combined with a cascade of diamonds: the epitome of chic. Homeware and Jewellery Designs Reminiscent of Works of Art Life Enriched magazine speaks with the creator behind, Ozlem Tuna, the Turkish homeware and jewellery brand that oozes unique, contemporary and elegant designs. Apartment51 is very proud to collaborate with a brand that is true to its inspirational qualities. The brand presents authenticity of origin and design, from production to completion all items created by Ozlem are homemade. Ozlem’s work offers authentic sculptural aesthetics, reminiscent of works of art. This April, Ozlem Tuna will celebrate 15 years since the launch of her brand. Since she was a little girl, Ozlem was always making things with her hands, whether her material of chose was mud, dough or traditional pen and paper Ozlem knew her future would be filled with creativity. We met with Ozlem herself at the Apartment51’s concession in Galeries Layfette, Dubai Mall for a coffee to get to know her and to learn all about how she turned her creative passion into an internationally acclaimed homeware and jewellery brand.

LE: Where do you get your inspiration from? Ozlem Tuna: Everything inspires me. If I had to choose my biggest inspiration it would be the city of Istanbul. I simply adore the culture and experience of the city. I love the beauty of opposites Istanbul offers from poverty to extreme richness, the clean and the unclean, and the dramatic mix of qualities of life that together live in harmony. The city is a buzzing transcontinental beauty spot. I am hugely inspired by people and cultures which is transmitted into the production and designs of my work. I live by Oliver Sacks quote,

My religion is nature. That’s what arouses those feelings of wonder and mysticism and gratitude in me.

My jewellery collection is inspired by books. I choose one writer a year and I read all their books. For instance, last year I read Paul Auster, a Jewish American author. Paul Auster’s novel, titled Moon Palace inspired my ‘Journey to the Moon’ collection. It is a beautiful to understand the inner workings of an artist. Who is your customer, do you think they see the same beauty that goes into your work? Usually my customers understand the design and the quality that goes into my pieces. They understand and appreciate the homemade products and they recognise the importance of staying away from mass production. I like to concentrate on being affordable for my customers, but I don’t believe in mass production and I won’t agree to produce my items outside of Turkey. I want to give back to my heritage, my country and the people of

Turkey. All my pieces are locally designed, produced and from local ingredients. Authenticity is very close to my heart. I have to support local sustainability, fair trade and the people around me. I feel this is simply being human. My brand is appealing to those that are nature-friendly and human-friendly. This is truly inspirational. Have you always been this creative with the same values? I remember where I grew up in a little town with a garden, I use to play with mud and when in the kitchen I would play with dough. I use to help my grandad who was a chef and a baker. I would form the dough and make shaped bread, and desserts. I’ve always been interested in moulding and shaping things. Your homeware and jewellery items present innovation in terms of their production and style. How have you maintained these qualities?

I enjoy observing people and how they go about their lives. I watch their behaviours, movement and how they use their hands. I inject those production observations and techniques into my products. Modernity is moving at such a rapid rate, and therefore we need to move with it in order to keep things fresh and interesting. While the world changes, so will my products. As mentioned previously, my designs teach and tell stories which keep the brand alive and new. What are your plans for new products? I have been reading books on our Byzantium period and I have fallen in love with the story and Empress Theodora’ Life. I will be launching a new collection inspired by the subject. The collection will not be about the Byzantium time or jewellery – it is just the inspiration behind the collection. Like the creation of a film, it is all the items together that tell a story. You end up with a beautiful item that presents all the experience that has been felt in its creation.

What are your favourite items? I don’t have a favourite – it’s the journey I take that I hold close to my heart. I find it difficult when a creation comes to an end but I understand that I need to channel this passion and concentrate on the next creation. It’s the next idea and nature that keeps you alive. How did you transform your concept into a reality? I graduated from Art School in Ozlem in ceramic and design in 1993 in Istanbul. In 1996, I focused on designing jewellery and started a role at Urart Company. This is the time in which a dramatic change occurred in my life. I was sat in a meeting and listening to a new product collection strategy. I realized, right there and then that I didn’t believe in the strategy. I was surprised how the need to communicate my true feelings on the subject overcome me like an unexpected ocean wave that consumed all of me. I had to be plainly honest and so, in that same meeting I informed everyone that I did


not believe the strategy. I ended my role the same day. From here, I was liberated and began to think it was the time to do something on my own. 2 months later I began thinking about it seriously and opened a small studio. I didn’t have a clue how or where to begin. I spent 5 years learning about business. I focused on building great relationships and later opened a shop near Grand Bazaar. Soon after, a magnificent lady come in and brought everything. The shop was empty. This special customer whilst purchasing my items gave me great advice. She told me that the pieces she liked the most, were the pieces I liked the least, such as the traditional use of the Turkish evil eye. Because I had grown up around traditional Turkish design, I wanted to move away from it, but I learnt that customers wanted to see more of my culture and the patterns from my heritage and thus I began incorporating the inspirations in my work. Proceeding this, I began taking my work to fairs. I later signed a large coffee cup supplier deal with the W Hotel, as well as the Rixos Hotel Dubai. And today, I am working with the beautiful home concept store, Apartment51. Looking towards the future of the brand, I would love to venture into the food business using organic products all sourced locally. All New Electric Renault ZOE 40

All set to hit the Middle East As the pioneer of all-electric mobility and Europe’s number one seller of electric vehicles, Renault has stepped up its innovation program and the deployment of its Zero Emissions (Z.E.) strategy by launching its second generation of the 100% Electric Renault ZOE. The new Zoe 40 will allow Renault to embrace the electric revolution in the UAE exceptionally in 2018. Fitted with the new Z.E. 40 battery, Renault ZOE 40 delivers a record NEDC driving range of 400km, which is twice the distance delivered by the model at the time of its original launch. The new Z.E. 40 battery has a real-world range of 300 kilometers in urban or suburban areas. Renault’s Zoe is the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe and provides a real alternative to internal combustion- engine cars, since average daily commuting distances are well within the ZOE’s capabilities. ZOE’s energy efficiency comes essentially from the base vehicle’s intrinsic strengths, especially its motor. For instance, since 2015, the ZOE has

been fitted with an all-Renault motor that combines outstanding efficiency with optimal electronic battery management, which restricts the level of electricity consumption on the move without reducing power. The new battery removes the final psychological barrier that stands in the way of buying an electric car since ZOE users can now travel further and enjoy a wider variety of driving situations without worry about charging. This makes weekend trips a real possibility. The Z.E. 40 battery’s charging rate is similar to that of the standard battery, so ‘topping up’ doesn’t take long at all. For example, just 30 minutes are required on average to charge the battery for an extra 80 kilometers of driving range when plugged into one of the many public charging points in operation in Dubai. The battery boasts 41kWh of useful energy, equivalent to almost double the storage capacity of the ZOE’s standard battery (22kWh of useful energy).

The Renault ZOE e-Sport Concept The Renault ZOE e-Sport Concept is built on a ZOE platform and converted into a racing car, drawing on Groupe Renault’s three years of winning experience in the Formula E Championship, an all-electric single-seater series. The overall design retains traditional Renault styling cues, plus elegant flourishes from higher-end highperformance models. The ZOE e-sport concept has extra-tinted windows. Its doors are opened by a simple tap on the ‘open’ zone incorporating tactile sensors. The two-seater ZOE e-sport concept echoes the styling of the latest Renault

single-seater race cars, and its Satin Blue and flashes of yellow colour scheme reflects the livery of the e.dams team. The lightweight body structure is made of carbon fibre, and the car tips the scales at just 1,400kg, including the 40Kw battery (450kg). This minimal weight in addition to excellent aerodynamics, power close to 460bhp and torque of 640Nm, helps the car to accelerate from standstill to 62mph in 3.2 seconds. Its maximum speed is capped at 130mph (210kph) and takes fewer than 10 seconds to achieve it. The high torque output of 640Nm (320Nm per motor) is available almost instantly.

Electric motors deliver all their performance the moment they are activated, and it takes only a few tenths of a second for the ZOE e-sport concept’s motors to reach 4,300rpm. Energy Performance Contracting The construction industry is a significant sector in the UAE, and one that has profound economic, social and environmental impacts. The important contribution to both GDP and employment cannot be understated, but the environmental impact of the construction industry has long been a source of concern, not just in the region, but globally. In order to address these issues the construction industry has, for a long time, pioneered innovative solutions with regards to minimizing its impact on the environment. With the introduction of assessment and rating systems, such as LEED, sustainability and sustainable developments have improved the performance of the buildings and therefore minimized the environmental impacts caused by both construction activities and buildings in use. Green Building Regulations, being developed at local level, are now providing a concise framework for design and innovation in the industry, aligned to local climatic challenges. So with new buildings being constructed to ever more stringent standards, in relation to their environmental impact, there remains the question of how to improve existing building stock, and the often negative impact they can have, with high energy consumption and inefficient systems.

The Energy Audit Firm Accreditation Scheme is intended to ensure a minimum level of competency among energy auditing companies and the audit staff they employ. AW Rostamani Building Industries (AWRBI) is a registered ESCO with RSB. How does an ESPC Work? All Energy Saving Performance Contracts, ESPC’s, start with an energy audit of

current consumption to establish the baseline levels of energy and water usage. The audit includes a full asset survey of plant, equipment and fittings to enable solutions to be designed and opportunities for savings to be identified. An ESCO will seek to manage the energy consumption and reduce the energy demand through various techniques. Improvements in the air-conditioning systems, optimizing lights to match the desired lux levels, the use of sensors and controls, and minimizing thermal gain, are some of the many measures to achieve the desired return on investment (ROI) for the retrofit programs. A unique aspect of the ESPC is that the energy savings are guaranteed by the ESCO. What this means for the Customer is that the cost of the audit and retrofit works are paid for through the savings generated. There are various financing options that mean that the Customer can either take advantage of the reduced energy costs at the outset, or offset the savings until such time as the investment is returned, hence in most cases there is no capital investment required by the Customer.

What is Energy Performance Contracting? Energy Savings Performance Contracting, or ESPC, is a budget-neutral approach to make building improvements that reduce energy and water use, and increase operational efficiency. By partnering with an Energy Service Company, known as an ESCO, a facility owner can use an ESPC to pay for today’s facility upgrades

Etihad ESCO is a DEWA venture that was recently established to make the Dubai built environment a leading example of energy efficiency for the region and the world. As a Super ESCO, it has enabled the energy performance contracting market in Dubai by developing energy efficiency projects targeting more than 30,000 Government buildings.

The Shift Towards 360-Degree Lifestyle Environments In the last issue of Life Enriched, we had the pleasure of speaking with the Group Property Development team to learn more about how they are growing Dubai one property at a time and the exciting new projects that they have in the pipeline for the Group. Since the August release, the department has successfully brought to life two major development projects; a seven-story residential and commercial building in Souq Al Kabeer area and a large corporate staff accommodation development in Jebel Ali. Sikka is a distinct building with a contemporary interior design and sleek minimalist exterior making it a standout development in the neighbourhood. The new building offers an appealing variety of accommodation types from family apartments and studio units popular with the area’s residents. The Staff Accommodation project is one of the largest builds of its kind in the region covering over 167,760

square feet of built-up area. That being said however, with investments in transport infrastructure, increased trade activity, increase in consumer demand and government expansion projects, the industry is expected to be handed a much needed boost. These include improvements on logistics efficiency by GPS, aerodynamic retrofits, and alternative fuels like natural gas and electricity to reduce carbon footprints and lessen the strain on the world’s resources. The biggest and most significant change on the industry will have to come from technology. The Internet of Things ( IoT ) for instance will shape the future of logistics by increasing speed, decreasing waste, and reducing overall costs. By allowing devices to communicate without human intervention, a new era of 3PL will in turn be achieved. According to a study by 3PL Selection and Contracting Survey conducted by EFT 26.25% of 3PL companies are currently using machine-to-machine (M2M) technology and 46.62% plan to deploy them in the future. With IoT shaping the technological revolution in the industry, even more technologies such as 3D printing, drone delivery, and driverless vehicles may soon become a reality and a fact that KAR may not be able to ignore. The reality of the matter is that companies in the 3PL industry must take a curious step in the adoption of emerging technologies. With the Middle East logistics industry becoming more of a bottleneck, where manufacturers and resellers need to continuously develop new methods to reduce costs and improve quality, it is critical to find the right balance between humanity and technology.

AW Rostamani ‘Attackers’ Scoring Goals and Achieving Awards for The Dubai Fitness Challenge

This season, AWR has shown a profound commitment towards health and fitness in alignment to Dubai’s Fitness Challenge (DFC). DFC is an initiative set by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, which aims to unite and commit the people of Dubai to 30 minutes of continuous exercise for 30 days, titled Dubai30x30. Over 35 sporting activities were offered to the residents of the Dubai, from the more traditional sports such as football, cricket, volleyball, and tennis to the less conventional such as Bollywood dancing, boxercise and bubble soccer. This first fitness initiative of DFC took place over the October and November. AWR reflected the initiative by providing all employees with the chance to register for new sporting activities, discounts for gym memberships with Fitness First, a weight loss competition with generous

prizes and encouragement for participating in the Dubai Fitness Challenge. This resulted not only in improvements in employee’s fitness and health but also in their work performance. AWR aspires to enthuse a healthy work-life balance and to continue to add more activities and fitness events to the Group’s calendar. This season we met with the AWR Football team to learn why they feel so strongly about remaining fit, why they are committed to their sport, working as a team and motiving themselves, both in the workplace and on the football pitch. When did the AW Rostamani Football team begin? AWR Football Team was formed in April 2017.

How was the team formed? Over the last few years, AWR HR has organized multiple sporting events. Teams are invited to participate from across all departments and companies and to showcase their sporting talents. It doesn’t matter your level, everyone is welcome and able to get involved in an activity. The AWR Football team is one of the most competitive sports offered at AWR and thus in March of last year, our HR department took the initiative to formulate an official corporate football team. The idea was very popular and thus selection trials for the team were conducted at Al Wasl club. Over 75 staff members attended the trials and from there, our Football team was selected based on their high-quality performance.

How often does the team train? The team trains weekly.

Currently we have one team of 20 players. Is there a formal enlisting process, should you wish to join the team? There is no formal listing process but players have to show their commitment, by regularly attending practices in order to be put forward for games.

The awards are huge achievements, not only for our best player and goalkeeper but for the overall team, as the team firmly believes in supporting each player’s talents. These two awards are also celebrated as significant awards in the corporate league.

With this spirit, we have victorious against strong competitors and show no defeat during challenging matches. Our team is a mix of personalities, with players from all departments within AWR, who have very different day-to-day

Paul Boldy, head of pre-contracts at AW Rostamani has told Hotelier Middle East that the UAE’s hotel sector has an impressive and enviable position amongst the world’s hospitality elite. With the aim of continuously striving for employee satisfaction and motivating employees to consistently deliver excellent results, KAR Freight and KAR Transport rewarded their select few employees in recognition of their outstanding performance, commitment and high levels

of passion towards work in H1 2017. The eagerly awaited awards ceremony is a half yearly event and latest event was held in in August 2017. The ceremony comprised of a brief customary address to all the employees regarding H1 performance along with the goals & challenges in

H2 by Sandeep Sahae (Director). After that along with respective managers, he handed over the certificates & cash awards to all deserving employees as token of appreciation for their achievements. In all 12 employees were awarded from both KART & KARFF. Varghese Cherian and Kashmir Lal were judged as Best Heavy Duty Drivers whereas Masaood Khan, Fazal Rahim and Sher Muhammad were recognized as Best Light Duty Drivers. Further, Ron Joseph, Jayadevan, Mohammad Awis and Liyakath Ali were awarded in Best Operator category. Arlene Montojo and Natarajan Sajiraj were identified as best Best Support Staff and last but not the least, Best Salesperson award was given to Shajeer AK. The awards are a way of appreciating the efforts put in by employees and inspiring everyone for continued success in future.

Shift Car Rental Driver Finds Envelope Filled with Thousands of Dirhams One afternoon in October, Zeeshan Ameen from Shift Car Rental was attending customer who was returning his hire vehicle. The customer was in a hurry and emphasized that he needed to be somewhere and rushed off. Zeeshan continued his checks of the car. On opening the glove box he found a large envelope inside. He checked the envelope and to his great surprise, he found a large amount of money inside. ‘I was very shocked and called the customer to tell him he had forgotten his money’ said Zeeshan, but the customer didn’t answer. ‘I went to the office and informed the team. We counted the money in the office

and there was AED50,500! We repeatedly called the customer for 3 hours but there was no answer.’ Finally, Zeeshan reached him on his mobile and told him ‘Sir you forgot something’, instantly the customer knew what he had forgotten and thanked Zeeshan over and over again, telling him what a great man he was. Customer told that he could come anytime to collect the envelope. The customer arrived at the office and gave Zeeshan a hug and shared more thanks. ‘My colleagues and managers told me what a great job I had done, thanked me for my honesty and shared the news with the full team.’

Understanding the potential of the UAE market, ARBL and AWRT jointly decided to execute extensive sales and marketing activities to support the sales of Amaron in UAE. Prime activity was extensive brand awareness through dealer counters. As a result AWRT conducted extensive

branding for 15 selected dealers in the Q3 2017 which was much appreciated by AMARON Management. This was first of its kind in the UAE or any other GCC market. ARBL and AWRT jointly conducted mini customer meets for the dealers and spare parts shops. This will help the team in enhancing the knowledge about the product and also in sharing this knowledge with the dealers to convince the customers on buying AMARON. Award-Winning Campaign Ideas and Creativity – INFINITI Wins an Effie Award! potential buyers in the middle of their purchasing cycle. INFINITI also built an extensive audience pool of users who had shown interest in the past and retargeting them with our countdown ads. The campaign was also supported with outdoor advertising, newspapers and radio spots across all the major stations. By taking precious time away from the retargeted audience INFINITI gave them a heighten sense of ‘FOMO’ the ‘Fear Of Missing Out’. Ultimately encouraging them to commit to their INFINITI purchase, resulting in faster sales. Time is like a sword, if you don’t cut it, it will end up by cutting you. This Arabic proverb helped inspired the INFINITI Trade In campaign. Studies indicate that the path to purchase takes 3 months to complete, from researching the car customers are interested in, to showroom visit all the way to making a final decision. But with a downward economy, slower than normal traffic to the showroom and stiff competition, INFINITI needed to get car sales up FAST. INFINITI didn’t have the luxury of time… so they decided to take it away from their target audience on May 1st 2017 and launched a time sensitive campaign that

gave their customers a chance to trade in their old car for a brand new INFINITI. The catch? Customers only had 6 days to take advance of our offer…INFINITI launched this campaign a month before Ramadan began, a period where potential car buyers usually wait for best auto deals and offers. INFINITI put their audience on the spot triggering a sense of urgency to make their final decision before it was too late. Everywhere they went, INFINITI reminded them that the clock was ticking, from their trade in event which they promoted online with Facebook to their targeted banner ads that used different data points to intercept

On Wednesday 29th November, all staff of AW Rostamani joined together in front of the AW Rostamani Group building to celebrate the special occasion of the UAE’s 46th National Day.

The event began with a welcome speech by AWR’s Emiratisation team. Following this, staff paid their respects with a one minute silence and rejoiced the National Anthem whilst three UAE flags were raised

in front of the AWR headquarters. Balloons in the UAE flag colours were released into the sky, which was met with a large roundof-applause by the united audience.


Dubai International Motor Show - Nissan

Arabian Automobiles was proud to be part of the opening ceremony of Dubai International Motor Show representing Nissan with a stand size of 1,472 m2 showcasing 18 stunning models. The 15th edition of the show was well attended with over 300 regional and local media covering all aspects of the show. The event was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al

AAC Fleet Desert Safari Event 2017

AAC Fleet department organised a special Nissan Patrol V6 Test Drive Event on the 2nd October 2017 at Badayer for the 37 leading Safari Companies, including Lama Tours, Rayna Tours LLC, Dubai and Destination Tourism LLC, Orient Tours LLC. Collectively, the 37 companies totaled an attendee list of over 70 participants in Dubai who can influence the market in this segment. Key influencers amongst the group included Mr. Avatar

from Lama Tours, Mr. Bilal from Happy Adventures, Mr. Mohd from Orient Tours & Mr. Bakhtiyar. The event created awareness and offered a hands-on sales opportunity to promote the Nissan Patrol to the Desert Safari companies. AAC gave a warm welcome to all guests and presented the heritage of Nissan Patrol along with its power and performance in the desert. NMEF offered

25 complimentary desert safari kits, which included valued items such as front & rear skid plates, bead lock wheels, air compressor, roof rails, kinetic ropes, sand ramp and desert edition badges to the first 25 customers. The event has already proved to be a success, with 8 units booked this month and further inquiries accumulating each day.

Being an active member of NAFL (National Association of Freight and Logistics), KAR Freight participated in a conference organised by the association in World

Trade Centre in Dubai. NAFL is a leading association for Freight and Logistics companies in UAE which undertakes initiatives like networking events, training programs and awareness sessions on new rules & regulations. Sandeep Sahae (Director, KAR Freight) has been a board member in NAFL during 2013-14. The agenda of the conference was to update all members about VAT legislation recently approved by UAE government and

implications for logistics service provider companies. After that, there was a small Q&A session hosted by Dubai Customs official to address common issues related to customs procedures. The event was also marked by recognition for KAR Freight and AW Rostamani Group on account of being a global finalist (Vikram Nagarajan) in Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year (2017) competition by FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations).

AW Rostamani Employees Donate Blood and Save Lives We believe that serving our communities and its citizens is part of our corporate social responsibility objectives, reflecting our brand promise, Life Enriched. To uphold our promise, our recent blood donation campaign, in collaboration with Dubai Health Authority, enabled 82 of our AW Rostamani employees to donate blood and save lives. We will be hosting more blood drives over the next coming months at our offices to give everyone this opportunity to save lives and give back to our community. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and pride in donating their blood, creating a strong sense of unification. Every donor was gifted with a snack pack which contained healthy items which were recommended for after giving blood, such as a banana and nuts for their vitamin B-6 content, a yoghurt for Riboflavin and a small orange juice for Vitamin C. We thank everyone who participated and we look forward to the next drive.

New Customer Welcome Meet Department initiated “New Customer Welcome Meet� program. The program invites all new AAC customers to the service center through personal calls from the GCRM department. This is an on-going quarterly activity and for 2017 AAC Aftersales have conducted four new customer welcome meets at Dibba and Ras Al Khaimah, Dhaid & Umm Al Quwain Showrooms. These events were well appreciated by the customers who said that this was a good initiative where they can meet the management and learn about the features of their new vehicle.

The Meet was attended by the Fleet Service HO team, Sales Senior Managers, Key Account Executives, and Supervisors and was held over 3 days in October. The agenda for the meet included, introductions across the teams, enhanced service contract sales with higher penetration, customer experience, database handling and Service Contract packages. The meet has already resulted in the improvement of efficient and quick sharing of customer feedback information and faster solutions, the clean-up of the customer database, sharing of leads and market research and, has ensured a better understanding of Fleet Service Contracts.

Engaging Activities at Staff Accommodation

Camp Ka Champ is one of the UAE’s largest singing competitions in the UAE for the blue collar working community. This year marks its 11th season, whereby over 4,000 participants auditioned across the country. Twelve of AW Rostamani’s employees were proudly selected for the quarterfinals which were held at the Al Quoz Staff accommodation. Our talented quarterfinalists include Shaikh

Suhel, Nijamuddin Shirgaonkar, Anil Pais, Binshad Basheer, Mohammad Iqbal, Prasanth Kumar, Hiranya Raj Paudel, Pinkalbhai Arvindbhai Patel, Shanker Das Sathani, Noor Hossail, Rabinder and Madan Kumar. As part of enriching the lives of our employees as well as our customers, we are bringing English speaking

classes to our employees at the Al Quoz accommodation. We feel it is extremely important to offer our employees the best learning opportunities and we believe improving their English is an indispensable life-skill. Currently, the classes have received over 40 registered participants and the program took place after work hours for 5 consecutive days.

Health and Wellness: The Biggest Challenge Last month, AWR kicked-off the key part of our Health and Wellness Initiative – The Biggest Challenge. More than 160 staff participated in the challenge in pursuit of improving their health and fitness. This is a two month long challenge which includes, fitness classes such as body pump, yoga, 6D training and many more. The classes are held at our Head Office and supported by Fitness First Deira City Centre Branch at their gym facility.

Free Eye-Check Up AW Rostamani helped promote the Health and Wellness initiative by offering a free eye check-up for all staff. More than 170 staff enjoyed the opportunity to having a complimentary eye-check up at their own convenience here at the office. In addition, all AW Rostamani Staff and their family also received a 30% discount for any eye related services.

Core Values Awareness Sessions AW Rostamani creates a cultural unity and a sense of identification through its Core Values. These Core Values are the basis of how we conduct our business, ensuring to motivate the correct attitudes and behaviors among its employees. It is important that we live these core values every day and apply them in everything we do. In our journey to further enhance our employee’s awareness of AWR Core Values, the GHRD – T&D Department have conducted a number of awareness sessions for different departments including Real Estate, BI, Lumina and Lifestyle. The awareness sessions did not only include a presentation of the core values, but the sessions also included a fun and engaging board game which allowed the participants to think about each Core Value and its behaviors. It was certainly a competitive, fun and engaging session for all.

A Successful Sporting Season For AWR

This season we have enjoyed a very successful sporting season! As part of Pinktober, both our men’s and women’s volleyball teams have participated in corporate tournaments hosted by Dubai Stars Sportsplex. While our men’s volleyball team won Yalla Pink

Championship by defeating Transgulf and Dar – Al Handasah corporate teams in the finals, our women’s volleyball team stood second in the championship! We have also participated in Fit on Click’s Corporate Cricket Championship Tournament, in which our AWR team has

got the second place after Dubai Islamic Bank in the finals. The AWR team has also been awarded as the best performance in debut tournament award and Mohammed Shahir (AWR Group IT) received ‘Man of the Match’ for his performance in the final.
