Introduction

Thank you for choosing our product. Please read this manual carefully before use to make best use of all functions of the product and to guarantee that it has a long service life. Please store the manual in a safe place for later reference.

This product is a portable digital audio player which allows you to play your MP3 and WMA tracks and make voice recordings or save files of any kind. The modern colour display lets you view digital pictures and videos too.

Caution Please read the general safety instructions in chapter 7 before using the MP3 player. Pay particular attention to the instructions on safely concluding the digital transfer between the MP3 player and computer in chap. 3.7.

EN

Keystroke action including four operation methods of shortly press, keep pressing, stay press and single press. It will mean the shortly press without special explaining later.

Shortly press: It will go into effect once press keystroke.

Keep pressing: t will go into effect even just once only pressing keystroke for more than 1 ... 2 second.

Single press: It will go into effect instantly until leaving the hand from pressing keystroke.

Stay press: The event will go into effect time after time in definite frequency during from pressing keystroke to leaving the hand, for instance FF and FB. Lock function You can block all buttons of your MP3 player to prevent accidental operation. Simultaneously press the “VOL+” key and the “VOL-“ key to activate the key lock. A small lock symbol appears in the upper display area. Repeat this key combination to deactivate the key lock.

3.2

Battery status

The internal 3.7V battery is rechargeable. The charge state of the battery is indicated by various symbols to enable you to estimate how long the player will operate.

Displaying full when electricity reaching 3.7 V, and the electricity indicating decrease with the increase of service time.

The middle of electricity icon will display empty when the electricity is almost exhausted, so you should charge up for it in time at this time.

The internal battery may be charged by connecting to a free PC USBPort or by using an optional power pack / charger (included with X35 Plus) sold seperatly (see Chapter 3.5). The power pack / charger is available and may be ordered from our web site www.odys.de.

Please charge the battery fully before using for the first time.

Charging an empty battery will take approximately 3-4 hours.

If not to be used for longer periods, switch the player off using the main switch, otherwise the batteries may discharge quickly.

3.3

Installing the driver When using Windows 98SE, you must first install the correspondding driver found on the CD-ROM before connecting the MP3 player to your computer.

â&#x20AC;˘ Connect the MP3 player to your PC using the USB cable. â&#x20AC;˘ The driver installation starts. When using Windows ME, 2000 and XP, the PC recognizes a new hardware device (mass storage device) and automatically installs the corresponding driver.

ODYS MP3 player X35 • If an error occurs during installation, remove the USB cable, restart the operating system and reconnect the USB cable to the PC.

Load the battery via the USB connection

The rechargeable internal battery can be charged using the USB connection of your computer or a USB hub with its own power supply.

Before charging the player's battery for the first time, completely discharge it. Then completely charge the battery. This is the only way to gain full battery capacity.

• Use the ON/OFF Switch at the top to switch the player on.

• Connect the MP3 player to your PC or to your USB hub using the USB cable.

• Charging begins automatically. Always charge the battery completely (see battery symbol in the display).

• The player keys do not function during recharging.

When charging, please insure that the player has been switch on.

Please charge the battery fully before using for the first time.

Charging an empty battery will take approximately 3-4 hours.

The player’s battery life is influenced by play volume; battery life is decreased significantly by loud playback.

If not to be used for longer periods, switch the player off using the main switch, otherwise the batteries may discharge quickly.

Transferring files MP3 player - PC

• Use the ON/OFF Switch at the top to switch the player on.

• Connect the MP3 player to your PC using the supplied USB cable.

• Open the Windows Explorer or double-click My Computer.

• Select folders or files to be transferred and drag them to the removable data storage symbol of the MP3 player (download to root directory). It is possible to create different folders for the classification of your file types in the player memory beforehand and then to save the relevant files to them.

• Once the transmission is complete, click the MP3 player symbol and check whether the files were completely copied.

• Following the same procedure, you can also copy files from the MP3 player to the PC (upload).

Formatting the Flash Memory Using the PC operating system: Open Windows Explorer and right click on the player’s removable data storage symbol. Then click on the Format option in the context menu.

With the player only: Use the Sys Tools menu within the setup mode as described in chapter 4.6.

You can also use your MP3 player to transport all types of files.

Never disconnect the USB cable from your MP3 player during a data transfer or formatting.

PLease note that the device's main directory can only control a maximun of 150 entries (Folders and Files). If you wish to save more titels then you will have to create sub-folders. In these subfolders you can save as many files as you deem necessary.

The device creates automatically a folder using the file format "DIR". Voice recordings which were created by the device using the file format WAV can be found in this folder.

Please do not use this folder to save MP3 or WMA files.

Please note that only WAV files using IMADPCM coding can be used when in the voice playback mode. Please use the Music Playback mode to playback MP2 and WMA files.

3.6

Disable the MP3 Player from the PC

Disable the digital MP3 player from the operating system correctly using the “Remove Hardware Safely” option . symbol and select Click the task bar on the right-hand side below the the “Remove USB Mass Storage Device – Drive (X:)” in the following dialog window.

Then the message now appears that the hardware can be removed.

When using Windows 98SE, does not appear in the task bar. Once the data has been completely transferred, simply remove the USB cable.

4.1

Operation Switching the MP3 player on and off

Switching the MP3 player on Use the ON/OFF Switch at the top to switch the player on.

Hold the PLAY key down for approx. one second until the Display illuminates and a greeting is displayed. The MP3 player is now in stop status.

If the device does not turn on, please load the battery using the USB connection.

Mode Switch in the Main Menu Press the PLAY button briefly to pause playback.

Press the MODE key of the turned-on player for approx. 1 sec. to switch to the main menu.

Use the main menu to access the various operation modes and player settings: Music, Video, Radio, Photo, Voice, EBook, Game, Setup and File.

Use the < > keys to select the desired option and confirm using the MODE key.

The < > keys are also used in the sub-menus to select the desired option and confirm with MODE. (Exception: File Function, see chapter 4.8) To revert to the main menu, press the MODE key for approx. 1 second.

Title: Yesterday

Insert a sets of headphones in the headphone connection and turn the player on. The player is now in stop status.

Press the PLAY button to play the track showed. The track information (ID3 tag) is scrolled on the Display.

Press the PLAY button briefly to pause playback. To resume play, press the PLAY key again (resume function).

Press and hold the < > keys during play to skip forwards or back within the track.

During play, press the PLAY button for 1-2 seconds to stop play (STOP) and to go back to the start of the track.

If you briefly press the < > keys during play, pause or stop the display switches to the next or previous track respectively.

Setting the volume Press or hold the respective volume control button (+, â&#x2C6;&#x2019;) to raise or lower the volume. The volume has 33 settings (0â&#x20AC;Ś32).

Repeat mode While in music playback, pause or stop state, briefly press the MODE button and use < > to select the Repeat mode (Repeat).

Briefly press MODE to switch to the Repeat sub-menu.

Use < > to select the desired mode (No Repeat, One, All, RandomAll, DirRepOne, DirRep).

Confirm using the MODE button again.

Playback, forwards/back, pause, stop

ODYS MP3 player X35 No Repeat: All files are repeated once in the original sequence.

One:

Repeats the current file multiple times.

All files are repeated multiple times in the original sequence.

RandomAll: Repeats all files multiple times in random order.

DirRepOne: Repeats all files of the current directory once in the original sequence.

DirRep:

Repeats all files of the current directory multiple times in the original sequence.

Equalizer settings (EQ) While in music playback, pause or stop state, briefly press the MODE button and use < > to select the equalizer mode (EQ).

Briefly press MODE to switch to the Equalizer sub-menu.

Use < > to select the desired sound (Normal, Pop, Rock, Classic, Jazz, Bass, Custom EQ).

Confirm using the MODE button again.

Lyric Function Your player supports synchronous lyric display when playing MP3 files. The file name of the separate lyric files (*.lrc) must coincide with the file name of the relevant mp3 file (*.mp3) and the lyric file must be in the same folder.

Playback Speed (Play Rate) Briefly press the MODE key and select the menu for setting the play rate using < >.

Briefly press MODE to switch to the sub-menu.

Using < > you can select the desired play rate (1.00X, 1.14X, 1.33X, 0.67X, 0.80X).

Confirm using the MODE button again.

Briefly press the MODE button and select the menu for direct selection of files (Folder) using < >.

Briefly press MODE to switch to the sub-menu.

Use < > to navigate through the folder structure and search for the desired file. Press the PLAY button to open a folder.

Confirm using the PLAY button again to select and play the desired music file.

A/B repeat (Replay) This function allows you to repeat a specific section of a music file by setting the starting and finishing point of the section during playback.

Keep pressing the MODE key during playback to mark the beginning of the section (A).

Briefly press the MODE key again during playback to mark the end of the desired section (B).

The selected section will now be repeated indefinitely until you press the MODE key again.

For deleting files please have a look on Chapter 4.6. You can also delete files or folders using your computerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s file manager when the MP3 player is connected to the PC via the USB connection.

Searching for files (Folder)

Photo Mode

Implement to browse the JPEG picture and to support the format of JPEG in common use.

Press the MODE key of the turned-on player for approx. 1 sec. to switch to the main menu.

Use the < > keys to select the photo mode and confirm using the MODE key.

The display will now show the playerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s folders and image files (browser screen). If there are no visible files then the player memory is empty.

Use < > to navigate through the folder structure and search for the desired file.

Press the PLAY button to open the folder.

Confirm using the PLAY button again to select and play the desired picture file.

Briefly press the < > keys to switch to the next or to the previous image.

Briefly press the MODE key to return to the browser screen.

To revert to the main menu, press the MODE key for approx. 1 second.

The desired image file should ideally be of the 160 x 128 pixel format. Other dimensions and pixel numbers are also possible. The pictures will then not fill the entire display.

Video Mode

Press the MODE key of the turned-on player for Video approx. 1 sec. to switch to the main menu.

Use the < > keys to select the video mode and confirm using the MODE key.

Folder 1 Video files can be selected and displayed in the Folder 2 same way as photos in photo mode.

Video.MTV You can activate a repeat function in the browser display by briefly pressing the MODE key and applying settings in the relevant sub-menu (see Music Mode, chapter 4.2).

Briefly press the MODE key to return to the browser screen. To revert to the main menu, press the MODE key for approx. 1 second.

Digital audio recording (Voice Mode)

Your MP3 player can also be used as a digital dictaphone. This allows you to record important ideas or thoughts when away from home, so you donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget them.

Press the MODE key of the turned-on player for approx. 1 sec. to switch to the main menu.

Use the < > keys to select the voice mode and confirm using the MODE key (fig. 1, stop status).

Voice recording Briefly press MODE. Use < > to select RECORD.

VOICE

Confirm using the MODE button again.

Press the PLAY key to interrupt voice recording. Press the PLAY key again to resume voice recording.

Press the MODE key briefly once again to stop and save voice recording. The player is now again in stop status.

Voice playback You can listen to the voice recording immediately by pressing the PLAY key.

If the player is in another mode, you can play your voice recording by switching to voice mode via the main menu (as described above.

System settings (Setup)

The mode Setup allows you to change important system settings for your MP3 player. It contains a total of 5 options.

Press the MODE key of the turned-on player for approx. 1 sec. to switch to the main menu.

Use the < > keys to select the setup mode and confirm using the MODE key. The setup menu contains the sub-menu for the Power, Language, Display, Record and SysTools system settings. Use the < > keys to select the relevant sub-menu and confirm using the MODE key.

To revert to the main menu, press the MODE key for approx. 1 second.

Automatic shutdown of the player (Power) The automatic shutdown switches off the unit to save energy if during the term of the given limit (unit: minutes) no key is pressed. The submenu contains: Auto off and Always on.

Briefly press MODE to switch to the Power sub-menu.

Auto off Move marking with the < > keys to the required number position: Confirm using the MODE button again.

Always on press the VOL key to activate or deactivate the function.

Confirm using the MODE button again.

If the Always on option is deactivated, the player will shutdown at the end of the set shutdown duration even if music is being played (Sleep Timer).

Briefly press MODE to switch to the Language sub-menu.

Use < > to select the desired language (CHI simp, English, CHI trad, France, German, Spanish, Italian, Portugal â&#x20AC;Ś).

Confirm using the MODE button again.

Display settings (Display) The sub-menu contains: Brightness and Screen.

Briefly press MODE to switch to the Display sub-menu.

Brightness Use the < > keys to select the Brightness sub-menu and confirm using the MODE key.

Use the < > keys to select the desired brightness and confirm using the MODE key.

Automatic shutdown of the display (Screen) This allows you to set whether the display is to remain on after a button is pressed and how long it stays on.

Use the < > keys to select the Screen sub-menu and confirm using the MODE key.

Use the < > keys to select the desired sleep time (5 s, 10 s, 15 s, 20 s, 25 s, 30 s and On) and confirm using the MODE key. The On setting sets the display to remain on.

Voice Recording Quality (Record) Briefly press MODE to switch to the Record sub-menu.

The < > keys are used to set the desired speech quality (High, Normal and Low). Confirm the setting with the MODE key.

ODYS MP3 player X35 The sub-menu contains: Delete, Format, Reset and Sys Info.

Briefly press MODE to switch to the Sys Tools sub-menu.

Formatting the memory (Format) Use this function to format the internal flash memory of the MP3 player. Keep in mind that in doing so all files and folders are permanently deleted.

Use the < > keys to select the Format sub-menu and confirm using the MODE key.

Use the < > keys to select Quick or Complete and confirm using the MODE key.

Reset values to factory settings (Reset) Use the < > keys to select the Reset sub-menu and confirm using the MODE key.

Using the < > and MODE keys you can execute a reset (Yes) or terminate the dialogue (No).

By selecting Yes you reset the player to the factory settings.

System Info (Sys Info) Use the < > keys to select the Sys Info sub-menu and confirm using the MODE key. Shows the current firmware version, the current amount of free memory space and the total memory space on your MP3 player.

To enter the main menu, insure that the player is switched to on and press the "MODE" key for 1 sec.

Select "FM-MODE" using the < > keys and confirm your selection by pressing the "MODE" key.

Use the < > key to select a desired frequency. Press and hold the desired direction key to speed through the respected frequency direction. Use the opposite direction key to stop searching. If you were able to store stations, these can be selected using the "PLAY" key. The actual memory position will be shown in the upper portion of the display.

FM Radio

Shortly press the "MODE" key to switch to the submenu.

Select Station If you have saved any radio stations, you can choose one of these stations with the PLAY button. Otherwise, you can save stations to one of the 30 memory locations (channels P01 ... P30) as follows.

Save Station Press to change the frequency and find a channel.

Use the MODE button and to select the function Save Station.

Confirm using the MODE key.

Quickly selecting saved stations in preset mode: Use the PLAY button to switch to preset mode.

Press to select the stored radio stations.

Delete Station Press PLAY to select the number of the memory location (channel) to be deleted and confirm it with the Menu button.

Use the MODE button and to select the function Delete Station.

Confirm using the MODE key.

Auto Scan Use the MODE button and to select the function Auto Scan.

The MP3 player now automatically searches for and stores the received radio stations. After that, you can scroll through the preset stations while in preset mode using .

Record Select a radio station you would like to record.

Use the MODE button and to select the function Record.

Briefly press the MODE button to start FM Record.

Press the PLAY key to interrupt FM recording. Press the PLAY key again to resume FM recording.

Press the MODE key briefly once again to stop and save FM recording. The player is now again in stop status.

If you want to listen to the radio while recording it, you must change into the voice playback mode (see section 4.6).

The recorded files are stored in WAV format in the â&#x20AC;&#x17E;FMIN.DIRâ&#x20AC;&#x153; folder. The next section gives information about setting the recording quality.

Exit Exit the menu.

You can also delete files or folders using your computerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s file manager when the MP3 player is connected to the PC via the USB connection.

Deleting files (File)

Press the MODE key of the turned-on player for approx. 1 sec. to switch to the main menu.

Use the < > keys to select the File mode and confirm using the MODE key.

Use < > to navigate through the folder structure and search for the file to be deleted. Press the PLAY button to open a folder.

Briefly press the MODE key. Using the < > and PLAY keys, you can now delete the marked file (Yes) or terminated the dialogue (No).

Confirm using the MODE button again.

You can also delete files or folders using your computerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s file manager when the MP3 player is connected to the PC via the USB connection.

In the File mode you can directly delete files saved on your MP3 player.

Video Conversion Tool

Execute the file "Video Convert.exe" on the enclosed CD-ROM with a double-click. The following program window will open:

Enter the file name of the file to be converted.

Select the location to save the video to.

Set the output size of the image.

Set the output frequency of the image.

Set the output sound quality of the image.

This tool supports the exchange of the original fileâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sound track with a newly entered soundtrack. Select the relevant selection field.

7. Set the duration of the section requiring conversion.

8. Start conversion and wait until conversion has been completed (100%).

Formats supported: avi, wmv, asf, mpg, mov, qt, vob, rm, rmvb, 3gb.

Troubleshooting Symptoms

Whether the installation of driver is OK

Although this product is safe, please observe the following information and warnings.

Do not expose the device to direct sunlight, extreme heat or cold, damp or dusty conditions. Malfunctions and damage and can occur as a result..

Do not use the device in an extremely dry environment to avoid static electricity.

Do not shake the device or subject it to hard knocks. The device may be damaged if it falls. Do not place any heavy objects on top of the device.

Never press two buttons simultaneously and handle the display carefully.

Do not carry the MP3 player with other metal objects (coins or keys) in your pocket.

Clean the device only using a soft, dry cloth and do not use any volatile substances, such as solvents, to avoid damaging the surface.

Do not open the casing of the device under any circumstances, and do not attempt to repair or modify the device.

Never disconnect the USB cable from your MP3 player to the PC during a data transfer or formatting. Correctly disconnect the MP3 player from the operating system.

Information loss and malfunctions can occur.

Warranty conditions

The following conditions comprise the requirements and scope of our warranty conditions and do not affect our legal and contractual warranty obligations.

We offer a warranty on our products in accordance with the following conditions: 1. We will remedy free of charge any product damage or defect that is proven to be based on a manufacturing fault, provided the end user reports this immediately upon noticing it and within a period of 24 months following the date of purchase.

The warranty does not cover batteries and other parts, which are considered consumables, parts that break easily such as glass or plastic or defects based on normal wear and tear. There is no warranty obligation in the event of marginal differences compared to the target appearance and workmanship provided these have a negligible effect on the product's fitness for use, in the event of damage caused by chemical or electrochemical effects, by water or generally from abnormal conditions.

2. The warranty will be performed in such a way that we shall decide whether to repair the defective parts or to replace them with working parts free of charge. AXDIA reserves the right to exchange the product for a replacement product of equal value if the product that is sent in cannot be repaired within a reasonable time or at reasonable cost. The product can also be exchanged for a different model of the same value. Requests cannot be made for repairs to be carried out on site. Parts that have been replaced or exchanged become our property.

3. The warranty claim does not apply if repairs or other work is carried out by unauthorized persons or if our products are equipped with additional parts or accessories that are not approved for our products.

4. Warranties that have been activated do not cause the warranty period to be extended, nor do they trigger a new warranty period. The warranty period for any replacement parts installed ends with the warranty period for the entire product.

5. Any other or further claims are excluded, especially those for replacement due to damage caused outside of the product, provided there is no obligatory legal liability. We therefore accept no liability for accidental, indirect or other consequential damage of any kind, which leads to usage restrictions, data loss, loss of earnings or interruption to business.

Asserting a warranty claim 1. To make use of the warranty service, you must contact the AXDIA Service Center by email, fax or phone (see below for contact details). You can also use the service form on our website or on the back of the warranty conditions.

2. AXDIA Service Center will try to diagnose and solve your problem. If it is determined that a warranty claim exists, you will be given an RMA number (Return Material Authorization) and you will be asked to send the product to AXDIA.

IMPORTANT: AXDIA will only accept parcels that have an RMA number.

Please observe the following when sending the product:

ODYS MP3 player X35 1. Send the product suitably packaged with carriage and insurance paid. Do not enclose any accessories with the products (no cables, CD's, memory cards, manuals, etc.), unless the AXDIA Service Centre specifies otherwise.

2. Mark the RMA number on the outside of the package in such a way that it is visible and clearly legible.

3. You must enclose a copy of the sales slip as proof of purchase.

4. Once AXDIA has received the product, it will meet its warranty obligations in accordance with the warranty conditions and will return the product to the sender with carriage and insurance paid.

Service outside of warranty AXDIA can refuse any service claim made that is not covered by the warranty. If AXDIA agrees to provide a service outside the warranty, the customer will be invoiced for all repair and transport costs.

AXDIA will not accept any packages that have not first been approved by AXDIA by means of an RMA (Return Material Authorization).
