CASE STUDY HEALTHCARE
PENNYSTONE COURT
THE PROJECT
Pennystone Court is one of the top five care homes in the Northwest and offers 24-hour dementia, respite, and residential care for 36 residents. On this contract, our directly employed team, supported by specialised subcontractors, worked to complete a property wide refurbishment which included new residents’ bathrooms, new communal areas, redecoration throughout and full electrical rewire and re-pipe. Works were completed whilst the property remained occupied and as such our management team worked closely with the Court Managers and staff to ensure disruption was minimised and that each residents’ individual needs were met.
INNOVATIONS
£1,960,000
On every contract where our work can potentially impact residents, we have company policies and processes to keep residents safe and ensure their property is protected. This includes a safeguarding procedure, policy, and training. As the residents at Pennystone Court have varying needs, our team, who all undergo DBS checks, worked closely with the team on-site from the outset to put in place special accommodations and measures to facilitate the work in a live care home environment. Banksmen were used to man corridors and site-specific hoardings were erected to ensure safe access to the work area while still restricting access to vulnerable residents. Throughout the project, regular meetings were held between our management team and the team at Pennystone Court. Meetings were scheduled before each phase to make provisions for the various restrictions within each area to minimise disruption as far as possible to residents and ensure their happiness and safety.
SOLUTION
As MHA maintains a uniform appearance across their properties, our team worked with the Designer employed by MHA to ensure the works met the specifications and all contract issue drawings. We used specialist subcontractors for all mechanical and electrical works. The subcontractors used were a part of our vetted and approved team of subcontractors and have worked with us on many contracts before. On-site health and safety was managed with the support of our Group Health, Safety and Environment Team and all operatives were provided with relevant training.
THE RESULTS
The client MHA was pleased with the results of our work. The project began in September 2023 and was completed in March 2024, a total of six months. This time frame was in line with the programme of work and the project was completed on time.
