CLC was tasked by Student Cribs to refurbish 14 flats over three apartment blocks in Durham, each consisting of several bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and communal spaces. Student Cribs provides high quality university accommodation for students across 25 UK cities.

THE PROJECT
Student Cribs is a leading provider of second and third-year university accommodation. Their flats and houses give students a better quality of housing with premium interiors and more modern facilities.
CLC was appointed as the primary contractor to complete refurbishment and upgrades to 14 flats over three apartment blocks in Durham, each consisting of several bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and communal spaces.
INNOVATIONS
During the project, the scope of the work evolved and there were several changes to the plans for the flats. These changes were designed to give the students a higher quality of living versus some private letting which can be of a very low standard and be unpleasant spaces. We were able to accommodate these changes and expectations with ease, using our directly employed, multi-skilled operatives. Using a consistent team that possesses multiple abilities means that the project gets done quicker and more efficiently.

SOLUTION
We worked together with the client to make the improvements within the deadline. Due to the time constraints involved in the project, it was a challenge to complete the refurbishment and make the flats ready for students to move in. The project took place during the summer while the building was vacant to avoid disruption due to the extensive work.
The refurbishments included rewiring, kitchen and bathroom replacements, lighting, installation of loft insulation and redecoration which included painting and tiling. Structural alterations were made to the bathrooms to expand them and turn them into full bathroom suites, a definite improvement from the small shower rooms they were originally. Our fulltime site supervisor assisted in liaising with new students on their arrival to make sure everything was perfect when they moved in.
THE RESULTS
The client is happy with the refurbishment and can be confident in the quality of housing they are providing for students attending Durham University.
